INTRODUCTION

DearParent/Caregiver,

Themeasurestoensurethecyber-safetyofMarkOliphantCollegearebasedonourcorevalues.Toassistustoenhancelearningthroughthesafeuseofinformationandcommunicationtechnologies(ICTs),wearenowaskingyoutoreadthisdocumentandsigntheattachedUserAgreementForm.

Rigorouscyber-safetypracticesareinplace,whichincludecyber-safetyUserAgreementsforstaffandstudents,whohavebeeninvolvedinthedevelopmentoftheagreement.Childprotectioneducation,suchastheKeepingSafechildprotectioncurriculum,includesinformationaboutremainingsafewhenusingnewtechnologiesandisprovidedtoallstudents.

Thecomputernetwork,Internetaccessfacilities,computersandotherICTequipment/devicesbringgreatbenefitstotheteachingandlearningprogramsatMarkOliphantCollege,andtotheeffectiveoperationoftheschool.TheICTequipmentisforeducationalpurposesappropriatetothisenvironment,whetheritisownedorleasedeitherpartiallyorwhollybytheschool,andusedonoroffthesite.

TheoverallgoalofMarkOliphantCollegeistocreateandmaintainacyber-safetyculturethatisinkeepingwithourvaluesandwithlegislativeandprofessionalobligations.TheUserAgreementincludesinformationaboutyourobligations,responsibilities,andthenatureofpossibleconsequencesassociatedwithcyber-safetybreachesthatunderminethesafetyoftheschoolenvironment.

ThisdocumentwillactastheUserAgreementandoncesignedandreturnedtotheschool,studentswillbeabletousetheschoolICTequipment.

Materialsentandreceivedusingthenetworkmaybemonitored;filteringand/ormonitoringsoftwaremaybeusedtorestrictaccesstocertainsitesanddata,includinge-mail.Whereastudentissuspectedofanelectroniccrime,thiswillbereportedtotheSouthAustraliaPolice.Whereapersonalelectronicdevicesuchasamobilephoneisusedtocaptureimagesofacrime,suchasanassault,thedevicewillbeconfiscatedandhandedtothepolice.

WhileeveryreasonableeffortismadebyschoolsandDECDadministratorstopreventstudent’sexposuretoinappropriatecontentwhenusingthedepartment’sonlineservices,itisnotpossibletocompletelyeliminatetheriskofsuchexposure.Inparticular,DECDcannotfilterInternetcontentaccessedbyyourchildfromhome,fromotherlocationsawayfromschooloronmobiledevicesownedbyyourchild.DECDrecommendstheuseofappropriateInternetfilteringsoftware.

DEVICES

DevicesareissuedtotheuserforeducationaluseandremainsthepropertyofMarkOliphantCollegeandthesupplyofadevicetotheuserisconditionalupontheuser’scontinuedassociationwiththeCollegeandongoingagreementtothetermsofusage.

IfthestudentceasesenrolmentatMarkOliphantCollege,thedevicemustbereturnedtotheCollegeonthedatewespecifybynoticetoyou,oronthedatethestudentceasestobeenrolledatMarkOliphantCollege,whicheverisearlier,youmustreturnthelaptoptoMarkOliphantCollegeingoodworkingorderandingoodrepairandifapplicable,completewiththeACpoweradaptor.

FailuretoreturnthedeviceinitsoriginalconditionwillresultinMarkOliphantCollegeinvoicingthestudentorparents/carersfortherepairorreplacementcostofthedevice.

• Thedevicemaynotbeusedforanycommercialpurposes• ThisagreementisonlyvalidinAustralia.Thedevicecannotbetakenonholidayoverseas• Eachstudentissuedwithadeviceisexpectedtocareforandsafeguardthedeviceinaresponsiblemanner.

ThedeviceisanexpensiveitemofCollegepropertyandtheCollegeissuesthispropertytothestudentontheunderstandingthatitwillbewellcaredfor.

• ThetypeofprovideddeviceisdeterminedatthediscretionofMarkOliphantCollegebasedondeterminingfactorssuchasyearlevelandeducationalpurpose.

• ADevicemayreferenceaniPad,iPod,iMac,Macbook,Laptop,Desktop,ChromebookoranyotherdigitaldeviceprovidedbyMarkOliphantCollegeorusedwhilstonsite

• MarkOliphantCollegedoesnotgiveanywarranty,representationorassuranceastothequality,fitnessforpurposeorsafetyoftheiPadasthisiscoveredbytheManufacturer.

• AllmaterialondevicesissubjecttoreviewbyCollegestaff.• DevicesownedbyMarkOliphantCollegeperiodicallycheckintoreportconfigurationandmanagement

information,theinformationinthesereportsmaycontainbutnotbelimitedtothefollowing;Internetproviderinformation,Geographicallocation,IPAddressdetails,Installedapplicationsandtheirusage,DiskUsage,Pluggedinorsynchroniseddevices,batterystatus,hardwareinformationandinternetactivity.

• Thesecurityanduseofthedeviceisthestudent’sresponsibility.ThestudentmustcomplywithalldirectionstheCollegeanditsstaffgiveinrelationtotheuseofthedeviceandproducethedeviceforinspectionwheneverrequested.

• Adeviceispermittedforpersonaluseprovidedthisusedoesnotaffecttheperformanceofthedevice.• AllmaterialonthedeviceissubjecttoreviewbyCollegestaffandmustmeetallacceptableusecriteria.• MarkOliphantCollegemaylockordisablethedeviceatanytime• Studentsarenotpermittedtochangedevicespecifications,makemodifications,addupgrades,orattemptto

accessthedeviceinternals.

APPEARANCEANDPERSONALISATION

• AsthedevicesarethepropertyoftheCollege,theyarenottobealteredorpersonalisedinanywaythatisnot

completelyirreversible.LabelsorstickersareOKbutmustbeeasilyremovableandcomplywiththepoliciesoftheschoolforappropriatecontent.

• TheiPadwillbepermanentlymarkedwithidentifyinginformationasrequiredbytheAdministrativeInstructions&Guidelines(AIGs).AdditionallyalabelcontainingtheAssetTagNumberwillbeattached.Thislabelmustnotberemoved.

CLEANING

• Tocleanyourdeviceoritsscreen:

LOSSANDDAMAGE

• Warrantyondevicescoversnormaldefectsandusageissues.Itdoesnotcovernegligence,abuse,malicious

damageorloss.• Itisthestudent’sresponsibilitytotakeappropriateprecautionstopreventwilfuldamageortheft.• Inthecaseoflossordamageasaresultofnegligence,abuseormaliciousactthestudentortheparents/carers

willberesponsibleformeetingthecostforrepairsorfullreplacementofthedevice.• Devicescreensaredelicateandwillbedamagedifpoked,prodded,pushedorslammed• Anyinstancesofvandalism,damage,lossortheftmustbereportedimmediatelytotheCollege.Inthecaseof

asuspectedtheftapolicereportmustbemadebythefamilyandaneventnumberprovidedtotheCollege.• Parents/carerswillhavetoreplacelostordamagedchargers.• StudentsarenottodefaceanyCollegedeviceorpartthereof.• ThestudentortheirfamilymustnottryorpurporttosellanyCollegedevice,offerthedeviceassecuritynor

givepossessionofthedevicetoanyoneelse.• Parentsmaychoosetoevaluatetheirpersonalhomecontentsandcarinsurancetocoverequipmentonloan

totheirchildintheeventoflossordamagetosuchloanedequipmentwhileinthecareandcustodyofthechild.

• Ininstanceswheredamageorlosshasoccurredinvolvingstudentsotherthanthestudentithasbeenassignedto,theincidentwillbefurtherinvestigated.

• Inthecaseofaccidentallossordamageawitnessedstatutorydeclarationsignedbytheparent/carershouldbeprovided

• Ifadeviceisdamagedorlosttheschoolwilldeterminewhetherreplacementisappropriateand/orwhetherornotastudentretainsaccessforhomeuseifapplicable

POWERISSUES/BATTERY/CHARGING

• Thebatterycanbeconditionedtoensurealonglife.

o Thedevicebatteryshouldbecompletelypowereddownbeforerechargingo Itshouldthenbefullychargedwhilstthedeviceispoweredoffo Usethedevicewithoutrecharginguntilitpowersitselfoffo Repeatthisprocess2times

• DevicescanbeusedwiththeACchargerattachedwherepowersocketsaresafelyavailable• StudentsabletotakethedevicehomemustbringthedevicetotheCollegefullychargedeachday.Classrooms

mayhavelimitedfacilitiestorechargedevices.

SECURITYPROCEDURES

• Donotleaveyourdevicelogged-onwhenyouarenotusingit.Itisstronglyrecommendedthatyousecureyour

devicewithapasswordprotectedscreensaverorpincode.Thislocksyourdeviceafterasetperiodofinactivity,reducingtheriskofsomeoneelseperforminganyactionsusingyourdigitalidentity.

• Youmustupdatesoftwarewithsecuritypatcheswhentheyarereleased.ThisoccursautomaticallywheneveryourlaptopisconnectedtotheCollegenetwork,notificationsmayofferearlyadoptionofrequiredupdates.

• DuringtheCollegedaywhenthedevicesarenotbeingusedandthestudentisunabletokeepthelaptoponthem(e.g.atlunchtime,duringPEetc),thedevicesshouldbesecurelystoredintheclassroomordesignatedstoragearea.

DATARESPONSIBILITY

• InformationstoredONthedeviceisnotbackedupbyICTsystems• MarkOliphantCollegeprovidesnetworkandcloudstoragefacilitiesfordailyuseandorbackuplocations,

networkstorageisregularlybackedupbytheCollege• Intheeventoffailure,ourCollegeITtechnician(s)maybeabletorestoreyourdevicetoitsoriginalstate.

Thereisnoguaranteethatdatastoredonyourdevicecanberecovered.Beforeinstallingnewsoftware,askfirstforassuranceandmakesureyourbackupsareuptodate.

SOFTWARE,COPYRIGHTANDINTELLECTUALPROPERTY

• EachdevicewillbeloadedwithaMarkOliphantCollegeapprovedsoftwareimageconfiguredforuseonthe

Collegenetwork.• Whereapplicabletheimagewillincludeanti-virussoftware,Microsoft,AppleandGooglesoftware• SoftwareinstalledbytheCollegeiscopyrightandmustnotbedistributedordeletedwithoutwritten

permissionfromtheCollege.• MarkOliphantCollegedoesnotobjecttotheinstallationofnon-CollegeapplicationsandfilesontheCollege

laptopsprovidedthattheinstalledapplicationsandfiles:o Areappropriatelylicensed(i.e.theydonotbreachcopyrightandintellectualpropertylaws–this

includesvideoandmusicdownloads)o Areethicallyandmorallyacceptable(includingconsiderationofCollegeappropriateness,age

appropriateratingsandprivacyissues)o Donotinterferewiththeefficientfunctioningofthelaptopsforeducationalpurposes(i.e.theydonot

interferewiththespeedandstoragecapacityofthelaptoportheproblemsthatmightarisefromincreasedbatteryuse)

o DonotinterferewiththeCollege’swirelessnetworko Donotinterferewiththelearningprogram.

• Whilesomegameshavesignificanteducationalbenefits,othergameshavelittleeducationalmeritandmayaffectnetworkfunction.Asaresult:

o Theuseofnon-CollegesuppliednetworkgamesisbannedO Noad-hocnetworksaretobeformed.

CARINGFORYOURDEVICE

• Forextraprotection,alwayspackyourdeviceinaprotectivecoverifyouarecarryingitfromoneplaceto

anotherorinyourCollegebag.• DonotremoveacoverfromaniPadunlessdirectedtodoso• Donotwrapthecordtootightlyaroundthepoweradapterorthecordwillbecomedamaged• Youstillneedtobecarefulwithadevicewhilstitisinyourbag.Donotdropthebagfromyourshoulder.

Alwaysplacethebaggentlydown.• Laptopsshouldbeswitchedoffbeforebeingplacedintoaprotectivecover.• Avoidexposingyourdeviceto:

o Directsunlightorsourcesofheatsuchasdesklampso Dust,dirt,rain,liquidsormoistureo Heavyshockorvibration.o Avoidapplyingpressuretothescreenofanydeviceo Donotstoreyourdeviceinthevicinityofawaterbottleorcontainerholdingliquid

VIRUSPROTECTION

Forapplicabledevicesthefollowingapplies

• Anti-virussoftware(McAfeeorMicrosoft)andmonitoringsoftwarewillbeloadedontothedevicethroughtheinitialimagingprocess.Updatesofthissoftwaremaybescheduledatvarioustimes.

• Studentsshouldensurethatanti-virussoftwareiskeptup-to-dateontheirlaptopandregularlycheckforviruses.

• InternettrafficisautomaticallyscannedforviruseswhenconnectedtotheCollegenetwork.• Studentsthathavetherighttopersonallyusetheirdevice,andconnecttotheInternetfromhomeare

requiredtotakeallstepstoprotectthedevicefromvirusattacks.• YoumustnotinstallanyadditionalantivirussoftwareasthiscancauseconflictwithexistingAntivirussoftware• Virusescanenterlaptopsthrough:

o RemovablemediasuchasCDs,DVDs,floppydisksandUSBmemorystickso E-mailso TheInternet(includingwebbrowsing,FTP/Torrentprogramsandchatprograms/rooms).

ACCEPTABLEUSE

TheICTNetworkManagersmaintaindevicesandnetworkinfrastructuresothattheyoperateeffectively,ensuringthattheresourcesneededareavailableforallusers,andthatthenetworkoperatesinanevenandconsistentway.Thefollowingguidelinesareoutlinedtoensureallusersareabletoaccessthelatestresearchavailablewiththelatesttechnologyinanacceptableandsafelearningenvironment.

• Userswillavoidsiteswithcontentthatisviolent,racist,sexist,pornographic,dominatedbyoffensivelanguageand/orillegalinanyway

• engaginginchatlinesordownloadingfilesisnotpermittedunlessformingpartofalegitimateclassactivityguidedbytheteacherofthatclass

• TheFederalCommunicationsActdeterminesguidelinesforappropriateuse.Inappropriateuseoftheinternetandemailisaseriousmatterandcanhavesignificantconsequences,e.g.sendingamessageovertheinternetusingsomeoneelse'sname.

• Itistheresponsibilityofstudentstomaintainsufficientcreditintheirprintingaccountstoallowsubjectrelatedtaskstobecarriedout.

• Donotnamefiles,folders,aliasesorapplicationsinappropriatelywithcontentthatisviolent,racist,sexist,sexual,orprovocative.

• Donotengageincyberbullyingore-crime• Passwordsshouldremainconfidential.Nousershouldlog-onanotherstudentusingtheirpassword• DonotbringintotheCollege,oruse,gamesoranyothermaterialswhichmaybeoffensivetoothers• Nodevicewithcameracapabilitiesistobeusedinchangeroomsortoilets• Underprivacylegislationitisanoffencetotakephotographsofindividualswithouttheirexpressedpermission

andplacetheseimagesontheInternetorinthepublicforum• Circumvention,bypassingordisablingofmonitoring,recordingoradministrativesystemsisprohibited.Some

ofthesesystemsorservicesmayincludebutnotbelimitedto;proxybypasstechnologies,VPN/TORnetworks,websitesdesignedtodownloadcontentfromfilteredwebsites

• Circumventionof,ordisconnectionfrom,theMarkOliphantCollegeWiFiservicewhilstonsiteisprohibited,thisincludes‘hotspotting’

• Anyprivatelyowned/personaldevicebroughttoMarkOliphantCollegeisalsosubjecttotheAcceptableUserAgreement

CYBERBULLYING

E-technologyprovidesindividualswithapowerfulmeansofcommunicatinginstantlywithothersinbothpositiveandnegativeways.

ByDefinitionCyberbullyingisbullyingwhichusese-technologyasameansofvictimisingothers.ItistheuseofanInternetserviceormobiletechnologies–suchasemail,chatroomdiscussiongroups,instantmessaging,WebPagesorSMS(textmessaging)–withtheintentionofharminganotherperson

Examplesofcyberbullyingincludebutarenotlimitedto,communicationsthatseektointimidate,control,manipulate,putdownorhumiliatetherecipient.

Anyformofcyberbullyingore-crimewillbedealtwiththroughtheCollege’s“HarassmentPolicy”and“AcceptableUseofTechnologyPolicy”.

SeriousbreachesareapolicematterandwillbedealtwiththroughState&FederallawsandSApolice.

INTERNETUSE

• UserscanaccesstheInternetthroughtheCollege’snetworkwhileonsite.AccesstotheInternetthroughthe

College’snetworkatCollegewillbemonitoredandsubjecttostrictfiltering.• Attemptstobypassinternetfilteringoraccessillegalserviceswillresultinatemporarybanofinternet

services.Filteringissetuptoautomaticallyapplybansassoonascircumventionmethodsaredetected.• TorrenttrafficdetectedontheCollegenetworkwillresultina15minutetemporaryban.Torestoreaccess

closeanyactivetorrentprogramandawaitthedurationoftheban.• Usersareresponsibleforthecontentthattheirinternetaccountaccesses.• Usersaretoonlyconnecttotheinternetusingtheirownuseraccount• AllinternetaccessontheCollege’snetworkisrecordedandloggedoutsideofthedevice• Offsiteinternetusageoftheschoolprovideddevicemayberecorded• MarkOliphantCollegeisnotresponsibleforanymaterialsviewedonnetworksthatareforeignandorexternal

totheCollege• MarkOliphantCollegeisnotresponsibleforanydatachargesincurredbytheuseofasupplieddeviceon

networksthatarenotprovidedbytheCollege.Somedatausagemayoccurduringinformationgathering/reporting/updateproceduresaboveandbeyondnormalconsumption.

• All@moc.sa.edu.auemailaccountsandonsiteinternetactivitywillbeactivelymonitoredforkeywordsandfilterswillpreventand/orreportoninappropriatemessagingand/orwebsearchingwherepossible.Thiswillincludebutmaynotbelimitedtocategoriessuchas

MarkOliphantCollegewillutilisetheexpandedemailserviceofferedtostudentswithadditionalservices,andwillbeknownasLearnLinkOffice365.

LearnLinkOffice365isacustomisedpackageofMicrosoftOffice365,tailoredfortheSouthAustralianpubliceducationsystem,andisofferedatnoadditionalchargetoparents/guardianswhilsttheirstudentremainsenrolledatMarkOliphantCollege.

UsersatMarkOliphantCollegewillbeabletodownloadlicencedversionsofcommonMicrosoftapplicationsusedinteachingandlearningatnocharge,foruseontheirdeviceregardlessofaninternetconnection.Theywillalsohavetheirownonlinestoragespaceforfilesthatcanbesharedwithotherstudentsandteachers.

WHATISLEARNLINKOFFICE365?

LearnLinkOffice365providesstudentswithanemailandcollaborationplatformtocreateand/orupload/sharecontent.Thismayincludewebsites,presentations,written,audio,imagesandvideomaterialaspartoftheireducationalprogram.

AlldataandinformationwithinLearnLinkOffice365isstoredwithinanAustralianbased‘cloud’andprovidesthefollowingservicestostudents.
