Products and Outcomes

Handbook ICT Bridges for educators andlearners, both on-line and on CD.

Exchange visits (mobilities) of trainers andlearners with a view to fostering cooperationamong institutions and partners.

To share outputs with educators and learners.

Increased awareness of the effectiveness ofICT in overcoming barriers for both thedisabled and management of organizationsinvolved in the learning process.

To promote communication in Englishthrough trainee and educator participationin peer-learning activities conducted inEnglish.

The use of ICT for education by specific groupsis the core of the project. The project team willcreate a handbook with a collection of singlecase studies on how ICT can eliminate barriersfor the handicapped.

Articles devoted to concrete services offered byeducators for the handicapped will be the partof handbook. The content will be accessible onInternet.

People with disabilities encounter barriers ofmany kinds in their lives. They also encounterbarriers to learning which determine how theycan further their vocational training, their areasof study in higher education, as well as their lifelong learning. The use of Information andCommunication Technologies increasingly enablespeople with disabilities to follow an individualizedtraining pathway, and helps to remove barriersto learning. This empowerment maximisesinclusion in society and access to employment.This project aims to raise awareness amongtrainers and teachers of the importantcontribution that can be made by ICT and alsoto create bridges between people with disabilities,in order for them to exchange their experiences.

Objectives:

To use information and communicationtechnologies as instruments to overcome thedifferent physical, social, geographical orother barriers encountered by people withdisabilities in the field of vocational training.

To promote the effective acquisition of skillsand knowledge and improve the quality ofthe vocational training system for peoplewith disabilities by influencing the approachof trainers and educators through peer topeer experience sharing.

To foster the use of ICT to integrate thedisabled into the educational process and thework market, by sharing experiences andachievements in best practice. This sharingby both disadvantaged learners andeducators can impact the contribution ofinnovative approaches in the creation of amore attractive environment in vocationaltraining.

The Training Centre of the CCIA BN focuses onvocational training. It provides training fordifferent kinds of beneficaries, includingvulnerable groups, using ICT tools.

Lawton School has developed on line vocationallanguage courses for the blind and visuallyimpaired. It is involved in developing vocationaltraining through language competences usingICT tools.

Berufsf rderungsinstitut SteiermarkAustriawww.bfi-stmk.atBfi Steiermark has carried a lot of projects fordisabled people, mainly with the blind and visuallyimpaired and the deaf. BfI employs experts in thefield of barrier free web design, programmingand teaching ICT for the disabled.
