Editor’s letterWelcome to ICT for Education’s conference, one of nine events in this year’s ICT for Education national conference programme and one that I hope will inform and inspire you.

Torquay and its surrounding regions boast a wide variety of schools delivering high-quality education. Most have adopted ICT in one way or another, and many are sophisticated users of ICT products, services and applications. The Torquay ICT for Education conference reflects these strengths with a great line-up of speakers who will address many of the issues at the top of headteachers’ and teachers’ agendas.

The conference covers ICT experience and expertise in primary and secondary schools, national ICT issues relevant to all schools, and ICT tools and apps that can support teaching and learning in the classroom.

The guest speaker at today’s Torquay conference is Andy Hutt, an initial teacher trainer and independent ICT consultant. Andy will open the conference with a presentation on how schools can respond to the increasing prevalence and relevance of ICT in the lives of learners and teachers. Closing the conference, Andy will explore tools for teaching and learning – many of them free and great to use in the classroom – and some of the ways in which we can promote and support their use in our schools.

The conference includes a Question Time style debate that will consider whether forthcoming changes to the national curriculum will improve the

ICT capacity of schools and students to an extent that will benefit employers. There is also a session on how to build a reliable wireless network and develop a bring-your-own-devices environment. Then there is ICT Reviews Live!, an independent product review session that will put products to the test in a live environment and give you real insight into their capabilities. And don’t miss the exhibition hall where you will find plenty of suppliers demonstrating their latest ICT products and services.

The refreshments are on us today, so do take a break and have a chat with colleagues, speakers and suppliers. Some members of the ICT for Education team are at the conference and we would be pleased to hear your views on how well ICT works in education. Our mission is to tackle the issues you face head on, so we will pick up your views and pursue them in forthcoming issues of ICT for Education magazine, a unique source of information, comment and creative thinking on ICT for primary and secondary schools.

I hope this brochure will help you navigate the conference and maximise your time with us. Have a great day and I look forward to meeting you.Best Regards,

Sarah Underwood Editor
