Windsor City News City Forestry Workers Return Home After Helping Brampton

By Liz Thorne, Saturday January 18th, 2014, posted at 10:00am, City News

Dennis Dunlevy and Frank Kalas, both City of Windsor forestry technicians, return home today after 16 days helping the City of Brampton clear thousand of trees from city streets and parks.

The winter storm hit Brampton on Saturday, December 21st resulting in an estimated $50 million in damages. Recognizing that the emergency exceeded the city’s resources, Brampton officials called Emergency Management Ontario for assistance.

Gary Linton, Manager of Central Operations for the City of Brampton, estimates that 30‐40,000 trees were totally destroyed and twice that number were damaged in the storm. He believes that it will take two to three years for the total clean up and replanting.

“Getting help from trained crews who know their business, like the City of Windsor crew, was invaluable,” said Linton. “The Windsor crew is very well trained and capable of working as a self contained unit. They arrived with the truck and the chipper ready to help us wherever we needed help. We are very grateful to Mayor Francis and City Council for their support.”
