The Institute for Credentialing Excellence (ICE) is pleased to invite you to the first-ever ICE Exchange. Get Up and Toot Your Horn: Let the World Know About the Value of Your CertificationYour organization’s current health and future prospects depend on demand for professionals who hold your credential. That demand exists because important audiences know what you do and why your credential has value: the general public, employers, and legislators. Expert panelists will offer advice and engage the audience in a discussion on dealing with the media, cultivating relationships with employers, and helping lawmakers and policymakers appreciate the ways that certification promotes the public interest.

Teach an Item Writer to Fish We have all heard the Chinese proverb Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. The same is true for item writers: Revise an item writer’s work, you fix the problem for today. Teach an item writer how to fix his or her own work, and you train him or her for a lifetime.

Green Light-Red Light: When to Start and When to Stop a Certification ProgramDecisions regarding the development of new programs or retirement of existing programs are among the most difficult judgments certification organizations make. Though sometimes emotionally charged, decisions must be objective and based on reliable data. Speakers will delineate in detail, decision-making algorithm for the process of determining whether or not to develop a new program and discuss the process of impartially deciding when to discontinue a program.

Is Your Certification Board Competent?The recruitment of highly capable leaders is paramount to a board’s success. Some organizations focus on demographics or stakeholder interests, while ignoring essential leadership competencies. Two executives will describe the processes used by their boards to define and assess key competencies. They will also define essential board competencies.
