IBM System Storage SAN Volume ControllerSoftware V4.1 introduces Global Mirror andincreases interoperability

OverviewIBM System Storage SAN VolumeController V4.1 introduces theoptional advanced copy servicescapability of Global Mirror to supportdistance replication solutions.Building on the original Metro Mirrorcapabilities of SVC Software, GlobalMirror′s asynchronous peer-to-peerremote copy function can helpprovide the critically importantability to maintain a minimallydelayed copy of data at a distancesufficient to survive metropolitan orregional disasters.

Interoperability support forheterogeneous data centerenvironments is also expanded inV4.1 to include Sun Solaris 10, anadditional version of HP-UX, HPOpenVMS, and 64-bit versions ofMicrosoft Windows 2003 and RedHat Enterprise Linux 4.

Management of heterogeneousstorage environments is alsoexpanded with new support for:

• Hitachi Data SystemsTagmaStore Universal StoragePlatform models

• HDS TagmaStore NetworkStorage Controller NSC55

• HP StorageWorks EnterpriseVirtual Array Models 4000, 6000,and 8000

SAN Volume Controller V4.1continues to be designed to improvethe customer′s total storagemanagement environment with keysupport enhancements, whichinclude:

• The ability to upgrade individualSAN Volume Controller storage

engines non-disruptively withinexisting I/O groups

• New reporting facilities fortracking virtual disk performance,cache usage, port utilization, andCPU utilization

• New audit log facility that recordswhich user performed eachconfiguration action

• Access control for hosts on aper-port basis

New GUI and CLI facilities have alsobeen added to SAN VolumeController to help make it eveneasier to use.

This software runs on the newIBM 2145-8F4 storage engines, with4-gigabit-per-second Fibre Channelhost bus adapter (HBA) capability tothe SAN fabric, as well as onpreviously released SAN VolumeController storage engines.

Description

IBM System Storage SAN Volume ControllerSoftware V4.1 takes a significant step forward.

For new orders, V4.1 is paired (by concurrent order) withthe new IBM System Storage SAN Volume ControllerStorage Engine, 2145-8F4, which includes a4-gigabit-per-second Fibre Channel host bus adapter(HBA) for attachment to the SAN fabric. The 2145-8F4storage engine with the 4-Gbps HBA can also be addedin pairs to existing SAN Volume Controller clusters up tothe maximum cluster size of eight SVC nodes. Nodesadded in this manner are capable of negotiating their ownconnection speed to the SAN, and are not restricted to runat the same speed as previous nodes in the cluster.

Global Mirror capability

SAN Volume Controller Software V4.1 also offers theoption of Global Mirror, a new peer-to-peer remote copycapability in asynchronous mode. For today′s importantdisaster recovery requirements, SVC′s new Global Mirrorprovides remote copy capabilities between clusterslocated at greater-than-metropolitan distances from eachother. The operational characteristics, such asrelationship establishment and copy initiation, are similarto the current SVC Metro Mirror operations.

Global Mirror and Metro Mirror capacity authorizationsare both ordered using the Metro/Global Mirror AASfeature numbers or Passport Advantage part numbersdefined in this announcement. Refer to the examples inthe Ordering information section.

Simpler, more accurate management capabilities

Through use of new virtual disk (vdisk) metrics availableper SVC node, SVC cluster management can be furthersimplified. These statistics provide the number of readand write operations per vdisk and the number of readblocks or write blocks per vdisk. In addition, the newmetrics provide read response times and write responsetimes. SVC Software now also offers counters per nodeto monitor CPU usage on the SVC engines within thecluster and the utilization of the Fibre Channel ports of thenodes in the cluster.

Cache statistics, which count the I/O operations below thecache, are now available for vdisk disk to cache stagingoperations and cache to disk destaging operations.Additional cache information identifies the quantities ofread-cached data and write-cached data. The quantity ofwrite-cached data present at a given point for a givenvdisk compared to the total cache size can provide anindication of the volume′s operation as it contends forresources. Similarly, the quantity of read-cached datapresent compared to the cache size can indicate resourcecontention and may indicate that the vdisk is a candidatefor a move to a different I/O group.

As with the existing statistics reported by the SVC cluster,the log files produced are designed to be used by IBM TPCor by another performance monitoring tool that supportsSAN Volume Controller. They cannot be meaningfullyused directly by a user without some tool support.

Enhanced GUI

The SAN Volume Controller GUI has been substantiallyenhanced to include:

• The addition of host name to vdisk mapping on thevdisk properties screen.

• The display of the worldwide port names (WWPN) tothe cluster properties screen.

• A new display of the lsfabric command in the GUI,which provides the listing of the fabric topology inwhich SVC is configured.

• Enhancements to the lsnode command, which nowprovides the node information about hardware type:2145-4F2, 2145-8F2, or 2145-8F4. The GUI now makesthis information available on the Vital Product Data(VPD) screen.

• A new command, lsdiscoverystatus, that when queriedby the GUI during long-running LUN discoveryoperations, will return the answer that LUN discoveryis either still active or it is inactive.

• The display of the MAC address for Ethernetconnection from the vital product data (VPD) for theSVC node, so that this information is available forconnection into the network.

• New administrative capability with an audit log ofcommands issued against the SVC configuration,which includes the identification of the user who issuedthe command and the time that the command wasissued. The SVC software shows the identity of userswho have issued action commands for both CLI andGUI users. The user identity and action will bepreserved for a certain time in a cluster-wide audit log.

• A new message that more clearly articulates thesituation when maximum extents per Managed DiskGroup (MDG) are reached.

• Support for faster and more robust debuggingcapabilities, at such time that SVC service may berequired.

• A new copy status command that, when invoked,returns an indication of whether or not the DUMPcommand, which is operating asynchronously to otheroperations, has yet completed.

• Concurrent code load mechanism that forces thenodes within a cluster to CCL completion, even if allnodes within that cluster are not completed. This willbe primarily useful in situations where one node withinthe cluster has significant failure, so that the rest ofthe cluster upgrade can be completed.

Planning considerations for the required IBM SystemStorage SAN Volume Controller Storage Engines apply.Refer to the announcements listed in the Referenceinformation section and to the IBM System Storage SANVolume Controller: Planning Guide, GA32-0551.

Also, attaching IBM TotalStorage Enterprise StorageServer , IBM TotalStorage or System Storage DS6000,or IBM TotalStorage or System Storage DS8000 seriesstorage systems in conjunction with the SVC Solution,requires consideration of individual establishment needs.This configuration can create a Logical Unit that is largerthan a single RAID rank, and also allows pooling ofunused space into Logical Units within the SAN madevisible through SAN Volume Controller Software. Theseare very positive advantages for storage efficiency andconsolidated management; however, this configurationwould also require that advanced copy services beperformed through the SAN Volume Controller Software.In some cases, this may not be advantageous overperforming these services at the ESS, DS6000, or DS8000disk array level. Relative merits and trade-offs ofattaching ESS, DS6000, or DS8000 under the SAN VolumeController should be discussed with your IBM ConsultingServices representative.

Customers with 5639-VC4 site licenses are responsible tocombine the total terabytes (TB) managed for eachfunction from individual SAN Volume Controller LicenseManager (cluster) reports, to ensure they are within sitelicense entitlement for each function.

Installability: Clusters with SAN Volume ControllerStorage Software V3 can be converted to IBM SystemStorage SAN Volume Controller Software V4 via aconcurrent codeload operation.

Customers running SAN Volume Controller V1 and V2clusters must first acquire and install the SAN VolumeController V3 code, to enable installation of V4.1.

New orders of IBM System Storage SAN VolumeController Software V4 are shipped preloaded on neworders for the corequisite hardware (IBM 2145-8F4).

For new site SAN Volume Controller Software V4 ordersmade via AAS, first order the cluster 2145-8F4 hardwarefor the initial cluster, then order the SAN VolumeController Software 5639-VC4 site software license.

The following instructions pertain to AAS orders for SANVolume Controller Software V4 with per-terabyte,cumulative tiered feature structure, 5639-VC4, placed onor after May 23, 2006. Read elsewhere in this section forPassport Advantage ordering information for this softwareprogram.

Per terabyte with cumulative tiers

With the cumulative tiered price structure, successivetiers offer lower per-terabyte prices than preceding tiers.The full range of terabytes available in each cumulativetier must be filled before ordering from the nextsuccessive tier.

The price indicated in each tier applies only to thecapacity authorizations in that tier. For example, if a useris obtaining authorizations to use 29 TB of Virtualizationfunction, the user would pay for 12 TBs of capacity at thefirst tier rate, and for 17 TBs of capacity at the second tierrate.

A new order for 50 TB of capacity would fill tier 1(1-12 TB), tier 2 (13-32 TB), and include 18 TBs from tier3 (33-64 TB). Successive orders of the same IBM SystemStorage SAN Volume Controller function would build onthis 50 TB position in that tier.

Further ordering examples are located at the bottom ofthis section.

A minimum quantity of one TB of the following one-timecharge (OTC) SAN Volume Controller Software V4Virtualization authorization (SVC VZN+1YRSWM/TB 1-12)feature must be ordered with each new software order.

Subsequent capacity-increase orders for the same siteshould be made by ordering the needed additional TBquantity, commencing the additional order within theapplicable cumulative tier established for that function bythe original or prior order. Specify the quantities ofper-terabyte features from the appropriate cumulativetiers needed to reach the desired total terabytes for theSAN Volume Controller Software site license.

Note: Global Mirror and Metro Mirror can both beordered using the Metro/Global Mirror feature numberswithin the 5639-VC4 product PID and related SoftwareMaintenance PIDs. In each case, the number of TBs toorder for Metro/Global Mirror is the total number ofsource TBs and target TBs participating in the copyoperations. For instance, at site A: 10 TBs ofvirtualization, 2 TBs source for Metro Mirror, 2 TB targetfor Metro Mirror, and 2 TB source for Global Mirror; atSite B: Base virtualization of 4 TBs, and 2 TBs of targetfor Global Mirror (source is at Site A) results in a Site Aorder for 10 TB base virtualization with 6 TBsMetro/Global Mirror and a Site B order for 4 TBs basevirtualization and 2 TBs of Metro/Global Mirror.

Note: Capacity increase or new function orders made inAAS subsequent to the original purchase date and beforethe original license renewal anniversary will generateOTC billings and renewal anniversaries for each TBquantity purchased, each of which will remain in AASrecords for the full term of purchase (that is, beyond therenewal anniversary of the original license purchase). Licensed function and PoE are based on the total capacity(terabytes managed) represented by the sum ofauthorization features times the quantity selected. Eachlower-tier capacity must be filled before ordering from thenext higher tier.

Note: Currently entitled V1, V2, or V3 SAN VolumeController customers who place capacity increase or newfunction orders for SAN Volume Controller Software5639-VC4 features should use their current total siteentitlement level as a starting point for these orders. Inother words, they will be able to order from the tier thatrepresents the total of their current cluster entitlementlevels at the same site, based on their total capacity orderhistory for each SAN Volume Controller function in allclusters at that site.

SAN Volume Controller V1, V2, and V3 customers shouldconfer with their IBM representative or IBM BusinessPartner prior to initiating an order for a 5639-VC4 sitelicense.

For uninterrupted IBM service coverage under SoftwareMaintenance, entitlement must be kept current.

When entitlement migration to Passport Advantage isrequested, documentation for current usage levels ofeach current cluster at the site may be requested by IBMin order to maintain accuracy and consistency ofconsolidated site license records with customerrequirements as well as accurate service information.

Entitled capacity for each Virtualization, FlashCopy, andMetro/Global Mirror (Metro Mirror plus Global Mirror)function should be totaled individually for each functionacross all existing SAN Volume Controller clusters at thedefined site, to determine the appropriate cumulative tierfor additional capacity or renewal orders of each functionunder the SAN Volume Controller Software 5639-VC4 sitelicense. Capacity for each function must be totaledindependently from that of other functions. For example,50 TB of site FlashCopy function capacity may not beadded to 100 TB of site Virtualization capacity to attain atotal of 150 TB, nor may other similar combinations bemade across functions. The capacities across the baseVirtualization, FlashCopy, or Metro/Global Mirrorfunctions cannot be combined. Renewals for 5639-VCTand 5639-VC3 licenses may be ordered using the sameSofware Maintenance PIDs and feature numberspreviously established for 5639-VCT and 5639-VC3.Renewals by SAN Volume Controller V1 and V2 customerswho have not moved to a consolidated site license as ofMay 23, 2006, should be made in the SAN VolumeController Software Maintenance V4.1 pricing structureusing the total capacity of each function from all currentV1 or V2 SAN Volume Controller clusters at the customersite as the basis for tier eligibility. Refer to the SoftwareMaintenance renewal features section.

For any of the capacity managed by SAN VolumeController under current V1, V2, or V3 clusters, previousentitlements for SAN Volume Controller managedcapacity remain intact under those original purchases,until the purchased term expires.

After August 25, 2006, to further expand the storagecapacity managed by their SAN Volume ControllerSoftware license, AAS customers will have to purchasenew capacity, including Software Maintenanceregistration, using the 5639-VC4 features and associatedSoftware Maintenance.

Current customers who need additional capacity orfunction before their V1, V2, or V3 Software Maintenancerenewal date should calculate their combined site totalsfor each existing function across all clusters. They should

then purchase the needed V4 functional capacity usingproduct (5639-VC4) and registration (5639-SSA forone-year or 5639-SSC for three-year) features from theappropriate tiers based on their calculated combined TBtotals for each function needed. Refer to the SoftwareMaintenance Renewal example below the feature tablesin this section.

Individual cluster management restrictions and limitsremain unchanged by site capacity licensing. For anycluster, FlashCopy for SVC or Metro/Global Mirror for SVC(Metro Mirror plus Global Mirror) capacity should notexceed the Virtualization management capacity assignedto the cluster.

Order the corresponding Software Maintenance featuresin the appropriate quantities to match the orderedcapacity of product features.

If ordering through AAS and your cumulative site totalhas reached 250 TB, use the Tier 6 per TB 251+ featuresin appropriate quantities to reach cumulative totals ofless than 500 TB, or in combination with the per 250 TBTier 6 features to reach cumulative totals in excess of500 TB, which are not exact multiples of 250. Forexample, to order quantities of base virtualization inexcess of 250 TB, first use feature number 4413 formultiples of 250 TB until the remaining number of TBs isbelow 250. Then, order the remaining number of TBsrequired using the appropriate quantity of feature number4412.

synchronous LUN relationships) that have beenmaintained as current, may be re-implemented as GlobalMirror (asynchronous LUN relationships) under the sameauthorizations. So long as entitlement is maintained atthis level, Metro Mirror and Global Mirrorimplementations may be made in any combination thatdoes not exceed the 10 TB total site authorization levelfor Metro/Global Mirror for SVC. Migration to IBM Passport Advantage: Migration of SANVolume Controller Software entitlements from AAS toPassport Advantage may be initiated by you or by IBMwith your consent. All SAN Volume Controller Softwareentitlements must be migrated together. Migration timesfrom AAS to Passport Advantage will vary individually bycustomer. Migrations will be processed with prioritygiven to customers nearest their entitlement renewalanniversary.

Migrations to Passport Advantage from AAS must beinitiated and completed before additional orders inPassport Advantage can be fulfilled.

IBM direct customers and IBM Business Partners mayelect to fulfill IBM SAN Volume Controller Software V4(but not hardware) orders via IBM Passport Advantage.To initiate this action, contact your IBM representative orIBM Business Partner, and be prepared to furnish currententitlement (paid invoice or purchase order) records.When activated, the migration must include all SANVolume Controller licenses and maintenanceentitlements. Partial migrations of only a portion of SANVolume Controller licensed entitlements to PassportAdvantage will not be supported.

The following guidelines also apply.

A Passport Advantage or Passport Advantage Express(PAE) account must be established before a migrationrequest from AAS to Passport Advantage or a newsoftware order via Passport Advantage can be honored.

If you already have a Passport Advantage or PAE account,that account will be used whenever possible.

After migrating to Passport Advantage, all future SANVolume Controller Storage Software orders should beplaced via Passport Advantage, not via AAS. Nomigration process from Passport Advantage to AAS isoffered.

New Passport Advantage orders for 5639-VC4

New direct customer orders for SVC Software V4, madevia Passport Advantage, require IBM representativeassistance in order to place the corequisite hardwareorder for IBM 2145-8F4. For best results, software ordersshould be placed in Passport Advantage before AAShardware orders are placed via eConfig. The PassportAdvantage software order number should be noted andcommunicated to the IBM representative forcross-reference inclusion in the hardware order.

In order to indicate to AAS that software will be fulfilledvia Passport Advantage, IBM representatives shouldinstruct the AAS Customer Service to place the PassportAdvantage software order number in the hardware ordervia eConfig and to use the software preload featurenumber 0017 on the 2145-8F4 hardware order. Thehardware order number and confirmation date from AASshould be noted and kept for reference.

To indicate to AAS that a new hardware cluster order isa second or greater number of hardware clusters for thatcustomer site, IBM representatives should instruct theAAS Customer Service Representative to use featurenumber 0019 on the 2145-8F4 hardware order. Original2145-4F2, 2145-8F2, or 2145-8F4 hardware orders, witheither the 0017 or 0018 feature numbers, may be checkedby IBM to validate the existence of an initial hardwarecluster order for this customer site before the 0019feature number may be used.

Capacity increase, FlashCopy for SVC, or Metro/GlobalMirror for SVC function orders that are added to anexisting site license that is in Passport Advantage do notrequire a hardware order or IBM representativeassistance. They do require documentation of theexisting SAN Volume Controller software site license.This can be documented by providing the PassportAdvantage customer number and site number for theexisting license to the Passport Advantage CustomerService Organization Geography representative. Therepresentative can look up the existing license anddocument this when confirming an add-on order.

IBM will use your shipping address as a designator of sitefor direct customer orders of this product, 5639-VC4. Ifthis is inconsistent with your site definition, contact yourIBM representative before ordering, as well as any timethat your originally designated shipping address changes.Failure to do this may result in incomplete or misbilledorders.

IBM Business Partners should ensure that the endcustomer site address is consistent with the shippingaddress for all orders processed for the same site.

Software Maintenance AAS PIDs and features are thesame for SAN Volume Controller Software V4 as thoseestablished for IBM TotalStorage SAN VolumeController V3.1 with cumulative tiers (5639-VC3) and IBMTotalStorage SAN Volume Controller V2.1 withcumulative tiers (5639-VCT). PID titles (only) are updatedto reflect the new product version.

Additionally, the description for each Metro MirrorSoftware Maintenance feature number under previousversions has been changed to “Metro/Global Mirror forSVC” (abbreviated as “RMC”) in V4.1. AssociatedSoftware Maintenance feature numbers for eachauthorization level under each Software Maintenance PID,remain unchanged.

Note: Both Global Mirror and Metro Mirror should beordered using the Metro/Global Mirror feature numberswithin the 5639-VC4 product PID and related SoftwareMaintenance PIDs. In each case, the number of TBs toorder for Metro/Global Mirror is the combined total

number of source TBs and target TBs participating in thecopy operations. For instance, at site A: 10 TBs ofvirtualization, 2 TBs source for Metro Mirror, 2 TB targetfor Metro Mirror, and 2 TB source for Global Mirror; atSite B: Base virtualization of 4 TBs, and 2 TBs of targetfor Global Mirror (source is at Site A) results in a Site Aorder for 10 TB base virtualization with 6 TBsMetro/Global Mirror for SVC and a Site B order for 4 TBsbase virtualization and 2 TBs of Metro/Global Mirror forSVC.

AAS Software Maintenance

This software license includes one year of SoftwareMaintenance.

Extension of coverage for additional years from the dateof acquisition may be elected.

Order the applicable program number, feature number,and quantity within appropriate tiers to extend coveragefor your software licenses.

If maintenance has expired, specify the appropriatequantity within applicable tiers for after-license featurenumbers (under 5639-SSB or 5639-SSE).

Initial Software Maintenance ordering via AAS

Software Maintenance for one year is included in theinitial product price for SAN Volume ControllerSoftware V4. Software Maintenance registration isrequired with each IBM SAN Volume ControllerSoftware V4 license. 5639-SSA is the Program ID numberfor the One-Year Registration and 5639-SSC is theProgram ID number for Three-Year Registration. Thethree-year Software Maintenance offering is theconfigurator default.

Software Maintenance for SAN Volume ControllerSoftware V4 includes maintenance coverage for themaster console software, subject to the usage limitationspublished for these programs. Software Maintenancedoes not include support for the customer-providedWindows operating system on which the Software-onlyMaster Console Kit (#5809) in this announcement isinstalled.

The following Software Maintenance support featuretypes apply for each priced function of the SAN VolumeController Software. Each of these may be representedby one or more feature-times-quantity choices, torepresent the total purchase from multiple cumulativetiers.

• A no-charge registration feature covering the first yearunder 5639-SSA or a two-year-priced feature numberfor the three-year contracts under 5639-SSC.

• A renewal feature, which is used to renewmaintenance while coverage is still current. For

uninterrupted Software Maintenance coverage,renewal features must be ordered prior to expirationof the original registration term, at then-currentcapacity levels. One-year renewals are ordered under5639-SSA, and three-year renewals are ordered under5639-SSD. Renewals may be ordered using either one-or three-year renewal features, but must beconsistently either one- or three-year throughout therenewal order for all renewal features ordered. Thesame renewal order cannot intermix one-year andthree-year renewal features.

• An after-license feature (under 5639-SSB for one yearor 5639-SSE for three years), which is used to reinstateSoftware Maintenance after the original registeredcoverage has lapsed.

To receive one-year Software Maintenance registrationat no additional charge, order the appropriate 5639-SSAone-year, no-charge Software Maintenance registrationfeatures for each licensed function or feature ordered with5639-VC4. For three-year coverage, choose from thethree-year Software Maintenance registration (charged)features under 5639-SSC. Order Software Maintenanceregistration for the same total licensed capacity for SANVolume Controller Software (Virtualization), FlashCopy,and Metro/Global Mirror (Metro Mirror plus Global Mirror)currently registered for the site in which the software willoperate. Order the appropriate capacity (quantity timesTB authorization) of SAN Volume Controller StorageSoftware Virtualization, FlashCopy, or Metro/GlobalMirror Software Maintenance registration features withinthe appropriate tiers under 5639-SSA (one-year SoftwareMaintenance) or 5639-SSC (three-year SoftwareMaintenance) with each new order of 5639-VC4.

If you increase your capacity level for SAN VolumeController Software Virtualization, FlashCopy, orMetro/Global Mirror under 5639-VC4, you must alsoincrease your Software Maintenance capacity to matchyour new licensed capacity, using the maintenanceregistration features in the per TB cumulative tierscorresponding to the same cumulative tiers and terabytequantities used to purchase the increased capacity.

For example, if your existing capacity is 25 TB ofVirtualization and 10 TB of FlashCopy, and you want toincrease to 35 TB of Virtualization and 20 TB ofFlashCopy, with one-year maintenance, you would needto order the following quantities and features in both theproduct authorization and maintenance registration PIDs.

For the SAN Volume Controller Software Virtualizationauthorization increase:

• Seven additional TBs in the 13-32 cumulative tier ofboth 5639-VC4 and 5639-SSA for the Virtualizationfeature to fill this tier for both product authorizationand Software Maintenance registration

• Three additional TBs in the 33-64 cumulative tier ofboth 5639-VC4 and 5639-SSA using the Virtualizationfeatures, for a new total of 35 TBs of SAN VolumeController Software Virtualization with 35 TBs ofSoftware Maintenance Registration

For the FlashCopy authorization increase:

• Two additional TBs in the 1-12 tier of both 5639-VC4and 5639-SSA for the FlashCopy feature, to fill this tierfor both FlashCopy product authorization and SoftwareMaintenance registration

• Eight additional TBs in the 13-32 tier of both 5639-VC4and 5639-SSA FlashCopy feature, for a new total of20 TBs for both FlashCopy product authorization andFlashCopy Software Maintenance registration

Software Maintenance renewal features

Renewal prior to lapse of original registration

To provide uninterrupted Software Maintenancecoverage, one- or three-year Software Maintenancerenewal (RNL) features should be purchased prior toexpiration of the original Software Maintenanceregistration features.

For a single site license renewal, Software Maintenancerenewal should be purchased for the site-wide totalterabyte capacity levels for each SAN Volume Controllerfunction required for the period of renewal, filling eachrenewal tier in order, up to the total site capacity.

Renewals for multiple SAN Volume Controller StorageSoftware purchases made at different times must bemade in the same cumulative tier order and anniversaryorder that was established with initial site license or otherprevious SAN Volume Controller Storage Softwareproduct feature purchases, maintaining the samesequence of progressive tier renewals as did the initialproduct capacity purchases. For example, when a licenseauthorization from cumulative tier 1-12 expires, that tiermust be renewed, before the product purchases fromcumulative tiers above tier 1-12 (that were purchasedsubsequently) can be renewed. Likewise, if previousrenewals under the site license have been madecumulatively to arrive at tier 3 (33-64 TB) and none ofthese renewals have expired , then the next renewal ordercan commence in tier 3, but not otherwise. Refer to theAAS renewal example.

For sites converting from previous V1 and V2 licenses, therenewal for each cluster at the site should be made usingthe site license renewal features for all the clustercapacity being renewed at that anniversary, that is, usingthe cumulative tiers, in order, needed to cover theequivalent capacities from the previously purchased(expiring) entitlements.

Note: Version 1 (5639-VC1) and Version 2 (5639-VC2)require separate considerations to determine appropriatetier equivalency in the V4 tiers. First, convert V1 tierranges to per terabyte equivalent capacities for eachfunction. Contact your IBM representative or IBMBusiness Partner if assistance is required to establish thisequivalency. V2 per TB capacities may be directly addedby function to progressively fill cumulative renewal tiers.

Any previous unexpired renewal capacity done under thesite license should be used to determine appropriate tiersfor the current renewal. Subsequent renewals foradditional clusters and/or capacity will likewise includeall non-expired renewal capacities by function for thesame site in the calculation to determine appropriate tiersfor that renewal.

The Software Maintenance renewal per-terabyte or per250 TBs (features times quantity) for each licensed SANVolume Controller Software Virtualization, FlashCopy, andMetro/Global Mirror function, should be ordered fromwithin the applicable cumulative tiers, based on thesite-wide total licensed capacity level for SAN VolumeController Software Virtualization, FlashCopy, andMetro/Global Mirror (Metro Mirror plus Global Mirror)capacity managed at that site.

Renewal following lapse of original registration

If Software Maintenance has expired, the after-licenserenewal program ID (5639-SSB for One-Year After Licenseor 5639-SSE for Three-Year After License) must beordered, filling each tier up to the current site-wide totalstorage TB levels managed for each SAN VolumeController Software V4 function.

Warranty period: This program includes a warranty forone year from acquisition from IBM or an authorized IBMBusiness Partner. Program technical support: Technical support of aprogram product will be available for a minimum of threeyears from the general availability date, as long as yourSoftware Maintenance is in effect. This technical supportallows you to obtain assistance (via telephone orelectronic means) from IBM for product-specific,task-oriented questions regarding the installation andoperation of the program product. Software Maintenancealso provides you with access to updates, releases, andversions of the program. Customers will be notified, via

This program is licensed on a per-terabyte (withcumulative tiers) site-wide capacity basis. (Refer to theOrdering information section for information on chargesfor this program.) Users may only install this program onIBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller 2145-8F4,2145-8F2, and 2145-4F2 Storage Engines, or subsequentIBM replacements of these. Customers are licensed touse this program only to manage storage capacity withina single site, and only for the amount of storage capacitywithin that site for which they have received properauthorization from IBM. Customers must obtain aseparate license for any additional sites within which theywant to use SAN Volume Controller Software V4(5639-VC4) and obtain separate capacity authorizationsfor each such site. The 5639-VC4 site license subsumesand supersedes all individual 5639-VC1, 5639-VC2,5639-VCT, and 5639-VC3 licenses previously in effect atthat site.

A customer′s right to use the IBM FlashCopy for SANVolume Controller and Metro/Global Mirror for SANVolume Controller features of this program is also limitedto the amount of authorizations obtained from IBM. Theauthorizations for FlashCopy and for Metro/Global Mirrorcannot exceed the total capacity authorization for theamount of managed storage on all clusters within the site.Use of the Metro/Global Mirror feature between clusterslocated in different sites requires separate authorizationfor each site. This program is only supported for use withhost servers, storage subsystems, and SANconfigurations identified by IBM as being supported forattachment to the IBM System Storage SAN VolumeController. This program is provided together with codeprovided under separate license agreements, including,but not limited to, open source license agreements.

Software Maintenance applies: Yes

Software Maintenance, previously referred to as SoftwareSubscription and Technical Support, is now included in thePassport Advantage Agreement. Installation andtechnical support for the products announced in this letteris provided by the Software Maintenance offering of theIBM International Passport Advantage Agreement. This

fee service enhances customer productivity by providingvoice and/or electronic access into the IBM supportorganizations.

IBM includes one year of Software Maintenance with theinitial license acquisition of each program acquired. Theinitial period of Software Maintenance can be extendedby the purchase of a renewal option.

While your Software Maintenance is in effect, IBMprovides you assistance for your routine, short durationinstallation and usage (how-to) questions; andcode-related questions. IBM provides assistance viatelephone and, if available, electronic access, only to yourinformation systems (IS) technical support personnelduring the normal business hours (published prime shifthours) of your IBM support center.
