v IBM Storage Enhancements for VMware vSphere Web Client – A brand newaddition to the VMware vSphere Web Client platform, providing powerfulmanagement features and capabilities, including:– Full control over IBM storage volumes (LUNs), including volume creation,

resizing, renaming, migration to a different storage pool, mapping, unmapping, and deletion.

– Easy and integrated allocation of volumes to VMware datastores, used byvirtual machines that run on ESXi hosts, clusters, or datacenters.

– Storage pools that are attached to vCenter servers on the IBM StorageIntegration Server side.

For more information about the deployment and usage of the IBM StorageIntegration Server and its components, refer to the user guide.

Known issuesThis section details the known issues in version 1.2.2 of the IBM StorageIntegration Server and its solution components, along with possible solutions orworkarounds (if available).

Table 1. Known issues in IBM Storage Integration Server

Ticket ID Component Description

HSGSVR-261496 IBM Storage IntegrationServer

Volumes that were migrated from an XIV storagearray (A) to another XIV storage array (B) usingHyper-Scale Mobility (online volume migration)might not be manageable.

This specifically occurs if the volumes on the originalXIV storage array (A) are deleted from the storagearray (A), and then the same volume IDs are reusedon that storage array (A).

If both XIV systems (A and B) are connected to thesame IBM Storage Integration Server and thissituation occurs, it prevents the management of thesevolumes through the Integration Server.

Currently there is no solution or workaround for thislimitation (HSGSVR-261496).

HSGSVR-261731 IBM Storage IntegrationServer

DS8000 storage array information is not updated onthe Integration Server side after a connectivity break,or if the storage admin user group has been modifiedon the DS8000 side.

To resolve this issue, restart the Integration Serverservice:service ibm_storage_integration_server restart

6 IBM Storage Integration Server

Table 1. Known issues in IBM Storage Integration Server (continued)

Ticket ID Component Description

HSGSVR-261745 IBM Storage IntegrationServer

For Storwize V7000 Unified storage arrays, themicrocode version number, build number, and systemID number are not consistent when appearing in theIntegration Server, vSphere Web Client, and storagesystem management GUIs. Different version numbersand system IDs are displayed on each platform.

Currently there is no solution or workaround for thislimitation (HSGSVR-261745).

HSGSVR-261753 IBM Storage IntegrationServer

The registration of the IBM Storage Integration Serveras a VASA storage provider on the vCenter Serverside might fail if an expired self-signed SSL certificateis present on the IBM Storage Integration Server.

To resolve this issue, replace the self-signed certificateas explained in the user guide.

HSGSVR-261752 IBM Storage IntegrationServer

After adding a SAN Volume Controller storage arrayon the IBM Storage Integration Server, the IBMStorage Provider for VMware VASA cannot detectSAN Volume Controller events.

To resolve this issue, remove and then add again theSAN Volume Controller storage array.

HSGSVR-261763 IBM Storage IntegrationServer

If the Integration Server fails to update storageinformation on a particular vCenter server due to aconnection problem, all other vCenter servers are notupdated as well.

To resolve this problem, reestablish the connectionwith the vCenter server, or remove it from the list ofvSphere Web Client servers.

Overview 7

Table 1. Known issues in IBM Storage Integration Server (continued)

Ticket ID Component Description

HSGSVR-261771 IBM Storage IntegrationServer

Whenever a directory-based storage admin fails to login (from the Integration Server side) to any storagearray that is in use, the Integration Serverimmediately locks the storage admin user accountand all storage arrays become inaccessible on theIntegration Server side.

This behavior is part of the Integration Server design,in order to prevent repeated login attempt failuresafter which the directory server blocks that useraccount.

In such a case, update the storage admin credentialson the storage array with which the login has failed.Alternatively, you can remove the that specificstorage array from the Integration Server and thenreset the credentials.

You can find the relevant storage array by checkingthe events.log log file. For example:Mar 26 13:50:01 ronend-isis1 ERROR ID:ISIS-0008 |Severity:ERROR | Parameters:reason=Logging in toarray 2810-214-MN65025 has failed with the providedcredentials.,user_name=ronenu | Message:Storage credentials foruser ronenu were disabled. Reason: Logging in toarray 2810-214-MN65025 has failed with the providedcredentials.

HSGSVR-261778 IBM Storage IntegrationServer

After an upgrade or reinstallation of the IBM StorageIntegration Server, some DS8000 or SAN VolumeController storage array identifiers might change, causing the Integration Server to stop synchronizingwith these storage arrays.

To resolve this issue, use the Integration Server GUIor CLI to remove and then add back these storagearrays.

8 IBM Storage Integration Server

Table 1. Known issues in IBM Storage Integration Server (continued)

Ticket ID Component Description

HSGSVR-261905 IBM Storage IntegrationServer

When replacing the self-signed SSL certificate files onthe IBM Storage Integration Server, changing thedefault path of these files causes the IBM StorageEnhancements for VMware vSphere Web Client not towork properly.

To avoid this problem, always use the defaultdirectory and specific filenames (vp.key, vp.crt) forthe SSL certificate files:

/opt/ibm/ibm_storage_integration_server/settings/ssl_cert/vp.key

/opt/ibm/ibm_storage_integration_server/settings/ssl_cert/vp.crt

For information about how to replace the self-signedSSL certificate files, refer to the user guide.

Table 2. Known issues in IBM Storage Provider for VMware VASA

Ticket ID Component Description

VASAVP-261222 IBM Storage Provider forVMware VASA

Manual storage capability definitions that were madefor XIV arrays in version 1.1.5 cannot be imported, and are lost when upgrading to the IBM StorageIntegration Server release.

This is because storage capabilities in the latestrelease of the IBM Storage Provider for VMwareVASA (now part of the IBM Storage IntegrationServer) are automatically created and assigned.

Currently there is no solution or workaround for thislimitation (VASAVP-261222).

Overview 9

Table 2. Known issues in IBM Storage Provider for VMware VASA (continued)

Ticket ID Component Description

VASAVP-261237 IBM Storage Provider forVMware VASA

When the IBM Storage Provider for VMware VASAand the IBM Tivoli® Storage Productivity Center(TPC) storage provider are registered on the sameVMware vCenter server, while the same storage arrayis configured for both, vCenter uses IBM TivoliStorage Productivity Center provider as the onlysource of information for that array's storage viewson vSphere Client.

In such a case, determine whether the IBM TivoliStorage Productivity Center capabilities are sufficientfor replacing the IBM Storage Provider for VMwareVASA. If the IBM Storage Provider for VMwareVASA is still needed, IBM TPC 5.2 (or later) providesa method of excluding storage arrays from a specificstorage provider, allowing you to remove the arrayassociation with the IBM TPC provider.

For more information, refer to the IBM Tivoli StorageProductivity Center documentation.

VASAVP-261268 IBM Storage Provider forVMware VASA

If spaces are included in the IP interface name (iSCSI)of an XIV storage array, that XIV array cannot bemonitored by the IBM Storage Provider for VMwareVASA, and information of that XIV array is notvisible to the relevant vCenter server.

To avoid this issue, do not include spaces in the IPinterface name of the XIV storage array.

Table 3. Known issues in IBM Storage Enhancements for VMware vSphere Web Client

Ticket ID Component Description

VWC-261324 IBM Storage Enhancementsfor VMware vSphere WebClient

If a combination of both iSCSI and FC initiator porttypes is defined for an ESXi host, mapping volumesto that ESXi host causes both iSCSI and FC to beused for those volumes.

To avoid this situation, use the storage systemmanagement tools to define only one active protocoltype (iSCSI or FC) for the initiators of each ESXi host.

10 IBM Storage Integration Server

Table 3. Known issues in IBM Storage Enhancements for VMware vSphere Web Client (continued)

Ticket ID Component Description

VWC-261530 IBM Storage Enhancementsfor VMware vSphere WebClient

When using the storage system management GUI (asopposed to the IBM Storage Enhancements GUI invSphere Web Client) to map a single volume to morethan one ESXi hosts using different LUN IDs, thevolume is not properly recognized by vSphere WebClient and cannot be managed by the IBM StorageEnhancements. In addition, multiple errors mightoccur on the vSphere Web Client during the use ormodification of that volume.

To avoid this issue, always use the same LUN IDwhen mapping a volume to multiple ESXi hosts viathe storage system management GUI.

VWC-261542 IBM Storage Enhancementsfor VMware vSphere WebClient

The Manage > Host Mapping tab of the IBMStorage Volume object shows incorrect mappinginformation. Hosts that cannot access the datastoreare shown as not being mapped to the LUN.

Currently there is no solution or workaround for thislimitation (VWC-261542).

VWC-261696 IBM Storage Enhancementsfor VMware vSphere WebClient

The IBM Storage Enhancements for vSphere WebClient do not impose a limit on the number ofmapped volumes per ESXi host. However, since anyESXi host is limited to 256 LUNs, additional newlycreated volumes are not recognized and cannot beused with an ESXi host that already uses 256volumes.

To avoid this issue, do not map more than 256volumes to a single ESXi host.

VWC-261713 IBM Storage Enhancementsfor VMware vSphere WebClient

If a volume is mapped to more than one ESXi hostwhile a virtual machine on one of these hosts usesthis volume as an RDM LUN, the volumeinformation might not be displayed correctly invSphere.

Currently there is no solution or workaround for thislimitation (VWC-261713).

VWC-261724 IBM Storage Enhancementsfor VMware vSphere WebClient

If a volume is mapped to two or more ESXi hoststhat are managed by more than one vCenter server, volume operations fail.

To avoid this issue, do not map a specific volume toESXi hosts that are not managed by the same vCenterserver.

Overview 11

Table 3. Known issues in IBM Storage Enhancements for VMware vSphere Web Client (continued)

Ticket ID Component Description

VWC-261727 IBM Storage Enhancementsfor VMware vSphere WebClient

If a DS8000 volume is mapped using 255 as the LUNID, the volume cannot be mapped to other ESXi hostsanymore, even to hosts that their LUN 255 slot asavailable.

To avoid this issue, do not use LUN 255 whenmapping DS8000 volumes.
