IBEJI

IBEJI

Ibejiis very common among the Yoruba tribe of African. Yoruba believed thatIbejiare special gift of Olodumare, this is the reason why they give them special attention. To give birth to a set of twin is a blessing and also an important thing and everyone is willing to.Your suffering ends the day you gives birth toIbeji. People will be giving you gifts of money, cloths, food (beans and epo pupa (which they believed are the special food forIbeji.) and other useful materials).Yoruba never engaged in killing of twin instead taking proper care of them, this may be the cogent reason whyIbejiismore in Yoruba land. Allextended family of Yoruba has at least a set of twin.

In Ekiti part of Yoruba, they refer to Ibeji as ore, they believed that friends move together and the two children born at the same time must be friends
