David Malek | BioLineRX | Vice President

David Malek holds the position of Vice President, Business Development, at BioLineRx, since 2011.BioLineRx is a unique company playing an important role in the Israeli life sciences industry and I was fortunate to take part of that: as part of my job, I am responsible for both the scouting & in-licensing activities at BioLineRx, as well as for the out-licensing activities. My in-licensing activities bring me to interact on a regular basis with many of the key stakeholders in the local biotech community: BioLineRx has traditionally held a large and diverse pipeline, comprised primarily of Israeli-based innovation, and thus I am exposed regularly to the innovations coming from Israel, and in parallel also have a good view on how that compares to other countries where we have scouted for projects. As far as the out- licensing is concerned, a large part of my role is to collaborate and partner with global partners on our innovation, and therefore I have a good view on their preferences and concerns. Over the last 3 years we have been able to establish partnerships with academia, small biotech, large pharmaceutical companies, small pharmaceutical companies and services providers. These partnerships happened with Israeli parties, but also with parties in the US, Europe and China.

Before joining BioLineRx I worked for Sano-Aventis for 5 years in a

variety of roles with increasing responsibilities. I headed marketing for cardiovascular and oncology drugs in the US for several years, and gained signicant experience working in BD functions in the US and in the global headquarters. This has provided me with the SimoneBotti is wide perspective of a large pharma company, and allowed me to see how dierent small companies in dierent regions develop and commercialize their projects.

Prior to joining Sano-Aventis served as Major at the Israeli Air Force. Received his MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth and B.A. in statistics and political science from the University of Haifa.

As a potential member of the Board at IATI I am excited to identify with the team two or three key challenges which the majority of the industry in Israel faces, and combine the eorts of the dierent parties to construct productive solutions which would hopefully solve some of the structural challenges limiting our industry from growing. I would also be happy to try and help bridge the gap between smaller local companies and large global rms, having seen the world from both angles.
