Amanda JettFine Art Jewelry | Lookbook Winter 2012

print / layout

problemAmanda Jett, metalsmith and jewelry designer, needed a quick, visual representation of her work for one of her seasonal trunk shows.

solutionWhile collaborating with other creatives, I put together a sixteen-page look book for Amanda. I chose to focus on a straightforward visual layout— Amanda is a designer, so her pieces speak for themselves. Elements of contrast within a system are exemplified throughout the look book, similar to Amanda’s designs.

problemI’m about to graduate college, and it’s a scary and exciting thing. What should I do?

Ask a designer.

solutionI interviewed Roger Maynor, founder of PUBLIC Letterpress in Denver, CO. I asked the questions that I really wanted the answers to. I wanted advice, to hear about experience in the industry, and to learn more about letterpress. I chose this medium because I find it important to share ideas, especially creative thinking.

logo design

problemAmanda Ashley needed a logo for her new shop, EyeWhoSee.

solutionEyeWhoSee features hand-picked and hand-made vintage clothing. Some of her pieces include: blouses, bot-ties, and bottoms. Her choices include pieces that are eclectic, patterned, tribal, and colorful. I chose to create a logo that encompassed these aspects. The eye, opening wide, mimics the reaction desired for a potential client. The diamonds incorporate the reoccurring patterns in Amanda’s pieces. I then included two finalized color options for the logo, while also keeping in mind the textiles of the EyeWhoSee shop.

problemRedline Graffiti, a chillwave/indierock/soul group from Washington D.C., was realeasing a new single for their upcoming EP “The Drill” and needed some artwork to go along with it.

solutionJunior June is described as, “a heartfelt homage to parenthood.” I chose to include elements of nature, celestial thoughts, and a questionable reality that we all ask ourselves about at some point in our lives, especially as we grow in wisdom and understanding.

personal project: bikes of boulder

sonder n. the realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own—populated with their own ambitions, friends, routines, worries and inherited craziness—an epic story that continues invisibly around you like an anthill sprawling deep underground, with elaborate passageways to thousands of other lives that you’ll never know existed, in which you might appear only once.

This is an exploration of the experience of living in Boulder, CO and becoming a part of the culture of wellness and bicycles.

developing a design system

problemKirstenElise was ready to launch her new line of hand-made jewelry, but did not have jewelry cards to place them on.

solutionKirsten’s designs are delicate, innovative, and inspirational. Some materials she uses include: moonstone, mint chalcedony, seahorse, quartz and even rattlesnake vertebrae. I chose to create a system of jewelry cards that would encourage her audience to buy more of her products, while expressing the whimsical nature of her shop.

identity

problemAmanda Jett began creating jewelry stamps to attach to each of her necklaces. The original logo was too complex to fit onto the metal tags.

solutionI simplified her logo, while incorporating her initials, into a streamline imprint that would reduce well to a small size.

problemRheana Rogers, founder of Prairie Lily Massage, was moving into a new chapter in her career and needed an identity makeover.

solutionI was hired by Rheana to design a new logo and collateral material: business cards and gift certificates. Upon meeting Rheana and figuring out what she wanted in a new identity, she told me the importance of the tiger lily in her life. Focusing on this color scheme and imagery, I transformed her logo into something that harmonized with her many goals as a massage therapist. The liquid lines are inspired by massage oil and the flow of energy in her healing work.

problemPeace Love Tacos is expanding, and about to head out on another summer tour. They wanted a new, steazy look to go along with the new season.

solutionPeace Love Tacos believes that “love is the most powerful force in the world, and looksto spread that love through creation.” I chose to create a system of symbols that were simple and easy to comprehend, as well as create a logo that was clean and professional, while also keeping their fun, vibrant personality.
