STORY ABOUT HIDA’S CLINICAL PRACTICE EXPERIANCE

I will tell you about my midwifery clinical practice which is hold on December, 7th

2015. That was my best time, because I got a lot of experience.

My lecturer was the one who choose the place to our clinical practice. I got my

clinical practice on Aisyiyah Mother and Child Hospital in Klaten. Aisyiyah Mother and

Child Hospital is not too big, it is small hospital but the facilities are complete enough.

Because the hospital is far away from my house, so I needed to stay at boardinghouse.

Hmmm..... Actually, I did not want to stay at boarding house. But it is okay because I had my

friends to stay with me. They were Hilya, Pristina, Uta, and Nestri.

My time at the boardinghouse was not boring as I thought, my friends were so funny.

They made fun every day. And the owners of the boarding house were also. They were good

person and took good care of us. Every day the owners, I called them “Ibuk” and “Bapak”

made a lot of food for us.

I was so excited on the first day of my clinical practice. I went to hospital by

motorcycle with my friends at 06.30. Actually, my clinical practice hold at 08.00 but I was

too afraid to late so I came early. Hahahaaaa. I had waited for more than 1 hours and finally

my time to meet our Clinical Instructor was coming. She told us about everything which we

needed to do while we were at hospital and she explained us about our schedule. My first day

schedule was morning sift at polyclinic, it would hold at 08.00 until 14.00. I had helped child

policlinic since 08.00 until 12.00. At child polyclinic there were 1 doctor named Mrs. Ani

and two nurse named Mrs. Mia and Ms. Ana. I helped them to take care of the patients and

processed some data. There were a lot of patients at that time. I called them one by one then

the nurse checked their temperature and the other nurse write their information data on

Electronic Medic Record. But, on the middle of our time the doctor told to the nurse to give

chance to me to check every patient. I was so happy at that time, although I just helped the

doctor but it was good chance to me to get new knowledge. Beside it, the doctor taught me

how mix the medicine on the spluit. And you know, it was not easy as you see. That is way I

need to practice more. After I had finished to do my job in Child Polyclinic, I went to

Emergency Room to help them treated the patients. At Emergency room there were 1 sift

doctore and 1 midwife, 2 nurse and one student who did their clinical practice named Ayu.

When the patients came, Ayu and I checked the patient and we report the result to doctor. We

checked blood tension, pulse, temperature and respiration carefully because we need to get

correct data. We asked the patients about their condition to get diagnose then we related it

with doctor diagnose. When pregnant patient come the midwife asked me to check their vital

sign and fetal heartbeat. I prepared the tools and checked them. Actually, that was my first

day since I had not did my practical clinic so I felt little nervous. But, I did it confidently step

by step and finally I could did it. Before I checked fetus heartbeat I needed to do leopold.

Leopold is one of method to know the fetal position, and then I placed doppler on the top of

fetus’s back. Time was passed quickly. The clock had showed us to go beck our dormitory.

Hm.... actually I just want to stay at Emergency Room because I should help people and took

care of people who got sick.

Second day, I still at Polyclinic and I chose to help on the Midwifery Policlinic. There

were one doctor and two senior midwifes who helped the doctor. I helped the doctor to

prepare pregnant mothers or someone who needed to check their pregnancy by

Ultrasonography, changed and checked the bandage of C-section patients, gave contraception

injection, implant insertion, IUD insertion, and etc. Midwifery Policlinic had closed then I

went to Emergency Room. Just like in the first day, I helped them to take care of patient but I

got new experience that were how to use electrodiograph.

On the fifth day, I moved to the Verlos Kamer. Verlos Kamer is the room to pregnant

mother who will get labor. In the VK room there were more than 5 midwiferies that help

mother giving birth and helper who organized the tools in the VK room. All the things in the

VK were clean and got sterilization. On my first day in VK room the helper taugh me how to

sterilization and disinfection midwifery tools in the sterilization room. To enter sterilization

room we need to use our protector like mask, footwear, and apron. The sterilization room was

so clean but the smell was not to good, because of chlorine smell. After that, I organized

midwifery tools to the right place. At that time, one patient stayed in VK room to wait the

doctor because she would get C-Section. I took care of her by changed her infusion, checked

her fetus’s heartbeat, and checked her vital sign.

Finally, my time to help mother giving birth was coming on the seventh day in VK

room. I was very excited. This mother called ny.B, she came to hospital while her cervical

opened 10 cm. The nurse in the Emergency room directly took her to the VK room. I

prepared her bed and helped het to move to the bad in VK room, and then I checked her vital

sign. I had not checked her fetus’s heartbeat but when I checked her genital external, the saw

her baby’s hair. Then I run to the senior midwife to inform them in the baby already coming.

I helped the midwife to wear prepare the midwifery tools. I wear handscoon and apron. 6

minutes after I finished everything, the baby was already born. It was male baby. The

midwife give the baby to me, I cleaned the baby in the baby box under the lightening and.

Then I gave the baby to the mom to get early breastfeeding for one hour. But, because the

mother had experienced hypertension so I must took her baby back to the baby box and the

mother would get treatment from doctor. I helped other midwife to inject hepatitis vaccine to

the baby.

That was just few experience of my clinical practice. I have a lot of experience

because I had 12 days of clinical practice. Hope this story should make you know about
