Explanatory Note
SCOPE
1. This Index, prepared by the Index Section of theDag Hammarskjold Library, United Nations, NewYork,is intended to offer a bibliographical guide to theproceedings and documentation of the 12th specialsession and 32nd regular session of the TrusteeshipCouncil as well as of their committees or ad hoccommittees which met during the sessions.
ARRANGEMENT
2. The Index consists of the following parts:
(a) Introduction, including list of the Of-ficers and check lists of meetings of the TrusteeshipCouncil and its committees;
(b) Agenda, with reference to the relevantsubject headings used in Part (c);
(c) Subject index. Subjects are arrangedalphabetically, with reference to the documentation,discussion, and disposition of each item. Agenda itemnumbers are indicated in parentheses fnllowing thesubject headings. Names of delegations are noted inparentheses following the meeting number wheneverstatements are made on a subject not scheduled as anagenda item or on a subject referred to in the generaldebate in plenary meetings;
(d) Index to speeches. Speeches and state-ments by representatives are listed in alphabeticalorder by country or organization, subdivided by subjectdiscussed and by name of speaker, with an indicationof the meeting at which the speech was made. Addresses of Heads of State are listed under the name of thecountry they represent, followed by their title andname. The remarks of the President of the TrusteeshipCouncil and of chairmen of committees are normallynot indexed. The speeches of chairmen and rapporteursof committees are included, however, when theypresented or explained the reports of their committeesto the Council. Statements and speeches made byprivate individuals representing an organization towhich a hearing was granted are listed under the nameof the organization. Statements made by officers ofthe United Nations Secretariat are listed under thename of the Office or Department they represented;

AVAILABILITY OF DOCUMENTS
3. All summary and verbatim records of plenaryand committee meetings of the Trusteeship Councilappear first in provisional mimeographed form. Theymay be identified by their symbol, which consists ofthe series symbol (e.g., T/-) as indicated in theintroduction (see Check list of meetings), followedby SR or PV and an ordinal number corresponding tothat of the meeting (e.g., T/SR.I245). Summaryrecords of meetings are later printed as separatefascicles in the Official Records; verbatim records ofmeetings are issued only in mimeographed form.
Of the other documents, a few appear only asprinted Supplements to the Official Records (a factalways noted in this index), but the rest are firstissued in mimeographed form. Most of them aresubsequently printed in the Annexes to the OfficialRecords, where they are grouped into fascicles according to agenda item numbers. The resolutionsadopted by the Trusteeship Council, first issued inmimeographed form, are collected in printed Supplement No.I to the Official Records of the session.After their republication in the Official Records, theprovisional mirneographed documents are no longeravailable.
