IN SEARCH OF PROTISTS:A FORAY INTO THE CAMPUS POND

PROCEDURE

On February 6th, 2012, Joanna, Joanne and I ventured into the murky waters of the campus pond to collect protist samples.

Three samples, one per person, were taken at six different locations around the campus pond.

We made sure that the samples were taken at least six inches deep to reach the silt at the bottom. Rain boots were very helpful.

The three of us each took turns taking pictures, collecting the samples and recording the data.

IDENTIFICATION

We attempted to identify the organisms we found by comparing them to the resources provided by Professor Riley.

There is a high probability that some of “protists” are actually debris.

The following slides document my best attempts at identification. They include the photos of the “protist” found and what it might be.
