TIPS ON GETTING THE MOST OUT OF T.N.T. We want your experience in this series to be a positive and pleasant one. So, don’t make it hard on yourself. All we are looking for is for you to join us either LIVE online each week or via video online along with at least one or two other people. Then, after the teaching, talk about it together. That’s it. It ain’t that deep! If you have a group of more than two or three meeting, that is great and even better. You don’t have to break up your group just to make it two or three! The whole point of the series is to demonstrate that even a very small group can make a difference to each other and the world. That said, here are some simple tips which may help enhance your time with our Tuesday Night Teaching. I. GENERAL GUIDELINES Before TNT begins each week, prepare your heart and mind to be open to hear God speak to you and your group through His word. In order to do this: 1. Share the Facebook.com and Livestream.com links to TNT with your family and friends, before, during and after the TNT teaching. SHARE! SHARE! SHARE! 2. Set aside enough time so that you will not have to rush through the lesson. The online teaching only lasts a few minutes, but your entire time together as a group may be longer. 3. Turn off the radio, television, video games and other possible distractions during the teaching time. Don’t make the Lord have to compete with anything for your attention. For these few moments, give Him and His word your undivided attention.

3.

I N N E R S P A C E Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts, And in the hidden part You

will make me to know wisdom. (Psalm 51: 6) _________________________________________________________________________________

4. Find and read the scripture before you sign onto TNT so that you will have a familiarity with it. Have the Bible already turned to the passage to be studied so that you are not fumbling to find it when the teaching begins. 5. Begin your TNT time with prayer before you sign on. Specifically ask the Lord to bless this time which you have consecrated to Him as an opportunity for Him to speak directly to you and your needs. 6. Tune into TNT by whatever means is most convenient for you (e.g. phone, laptop, desktop computer, TV, etc.) 7. During the teaching, feel free to type your name and any questions or comments you may have on the lesson in the comments section of Facebook or Livestream. 8. At the end of the teaching, check to make sure you filled in all of the blanks correctly. If you didn’t get them all or are not sure, feel free to watch it again. It won’t hurt a thing! 9. Discuss and/or answer the study questions immediately. If you wait, you are bound to forget. If you are watching as a group, discuss the questions together. Jot down any questions that occur to you during your group discussion and send them along in the comment section of Facebook or Livestream. You can talk about Dr. Wise’s response to your questions at your next group meeting. 10. Close your group time with prayer. II. WHEN STUDYING AS A COUPLE In addition to the General Guidelines listed above, remember: 1. Make a regular date to watch TNT together and stick to it!

4.

2. This is not a competition to see who knows the most or is the most spiritual. It is a precious opportunity for the two of you to fellowship around the word of God. 3. Don’t use this Bible study as a cover for deep seated relationship problems. Use it as a chance to prayerfully work them out as you study the word together. 4. Make the lesson more like a conversation than a class. This way, neither one of you has to be the teacher. 5. Take advantage of this time together to pray for each other and your growth together as one in Christ. III. WHEN STUDYING AS A FAMILY In addition to the General Guidelines listed above, remember: 1. Set aside a regular time to watch TNT and stick to it. You may want to make this study a part of a larger block of time each week where you do more than study the Bible together. (e.g. Go to the movies. Eat out.) 2. Be sensitive to differences in age and levels of understanding as you watch. This is especially true as you discuss the lesson and answer the questions. Feel free to use modern translations of the Bible such as the New King James Version, the New International Version, the Revised Standard Version or the Living Bible. 3. Try to involve everyone in your house in the class, but do not force those who do not want to be involved to participate. Do, however, provide opportunities for them to overhear what they do not want to hear. (e.g. Leave the door open. Lay the TNT materials out on the table. Leave the TNT website

information out so that others may watch it in secret.) 4. Pray for one another and each other’s needs. IV. WHEN STUDYING AT WORK In addition to the General Guidelines listed above, remember: 1. Set a regular time to watch TNT at work and stick to it as much as possible. 2. Do your study on your time, not your boss’ time - and if necessary, do it in a place which will not get you into trouble. 3. Invite your co-workers to join you in the series. They can do this by watching themselves as individuals; or if you can get access to the internet and a laptop or video projector, you may watch together as a group. 4. Be aware that in the work place, you may have an even greater chance for evangelism. Don’t beat people over the head with the Bible, but at the same time, do not be afraid to talk to your co-workers about Jesus. This means that you are going to have to act like a Christian at work! 5. Pray for each other, your supervisors and for your company to be successful in the sight of God. 6. Expect God to save and positively change the lives of your co-workers because you are sincerely and regularly studying the word there. V. WHEN STUDYING AS A SMALL GROUP In addition to the General Guidelines listed above, remember:

1. Open your group to persons other than those who may already live in your house or belong to your normal circle of friends. 2. Be sure to make your regular group members and guests feel welcomed. 3. Prepare a clean, safe and appropriate space to watch and discuss the teaching. 4. Set up the video in advance so that all can see and hear the lesson clearly. 5. Use this time as an opportunity to invite friends and neighbors to study the word with you and to come to know Jesus. 6. Use this as an opportunity to plug unchurched persons into the membership and other ministries of your church. 7. Don’t set yourself up as a Bible expert. Portray yourself only as a Bible student who loves the Lord and the word. 8. Stick to the lesson. Try not to allow your group to go off on tangents and detours. 9. Pray for one another and your respective families. 10. Have fun together in the Lord!

I N T R O D U C T I O N

Much time, energy and money has been spent in the exploration of outer space. Missiles, rockets, shuttles, satellites and probes have all been launched in one form or another to find out what’s up there beyond the clouds. Needless to say, a great deal of progress has been made in this field of knowledge. However, if the truth be told, there is a far greater space which has yet to be fully explored. This space is much closer and much more

difficult. The space about which I am speaking is inner space. It is the area within us which is the source of our sins, the place of our deepest pain and the stomping ground of our soul. For the next several weeks, we will be venturing into this sphere. Any journey to understand our faith and its practice must necessarily begin with us. Put more succinctly, it must begin with the “stuff” within us. This is why we are going to be turning inward to address both our hurts and our hopes. As always, it is my prayer that our time together will be personally challenging and spiritually changing.

Series: Inner Space Lesson Number 1: Inner Truth Text: Psalm 51: 1-6 Time to Tell the Truth Psalm 51 is another masterpiece which has been inscribed in scripture from the pen of King David. The only problem with it is that in it, David writes of various realities he has discovered, which he should have already known. One of them is that God is not impressed with outward appearances. He looks on the heart and desires truth in our inward parts. In the case of David, we wonder what took him so long to finally admit and tell the truth. He waited until there was... 1. __________. (II Samuel 11: 2) 2. __________. (II Samuel 11: 4-5) 3. __________. (II Samuel 11: 14-17) 4. __________ of a Child. (II Samuel 12: 15-23) From his experience, we should learn that the time to tell the truth is... 1. __________ you sin, so you __________ sin. 2. __________ you sin, so you won’t __________ sin. 3. __________ you sin, so you won’t __________ in sin.

Series: Inner Space Lesson Number 2: Inner Pain Text: Jeremiah 15: 15-21 A Prophet Speaks of Pain If you asked him, Jeremiah would tell you that being a prophet does not exempt a person from experiencing pain. As a matter of fact, this preacher who was also the author of the Book of Lamentations knew and expressed his pain so often that he was nicknamed the weeping prophet. The passage before us today gives us a chance to listen in on Jeremiah as he speaks to God about his pain. 1. The Lord __________ his pain. (Jeremiah 15: 15) 2. Persecution was one __________ of his pain. (Jeremiah 15: 15) 3. Death was what he __________ most in the pain. (Jeremiah 15: 15) 4. The word of God was his __________ for pain. (Jeremiah 15: 16) God Speaks to Pain In his lament, Jeremiah cries about the seemingly endless nature of his pain. He wails as if there is no way out. However, after the Lord listens to his anguish, He turns around and gives the preacher the answer. Simply put, God says, if you want to deal with the pain, just return to me. And when you do, I will... 1. Bring you __________. (Jeremiah 15: 19) 2. Let you __________ before Me. (Jeremiah 15: 19)

Series: Inner Space Lesson Number 3: Inner War Text: Romans 7: 14-25 No Peace for the Apostle What the Apostle Paul describes in this familiar text is nothing short of a war being waged inside of him. One would think that a man so close to God would have all of his inside issues settled. Yet, by virtue of his very own confession, we know that even Paul lived with a constant struggle. Before we take a peek at the opposing parties within him, let us make sure we are clear on the meaning and import of at least three of the critical terms Paul uses in this text. 1. __________. 2. __________. 3. __________. Now, let’s wrestle with these opposing parties found in Paul and also in every last one of us! Who they are... 1. The __________. 2. The __________. How they make us feel... 1. __________.

Series: Inner Space Lesson Number 4: Inner Healing Text: Mark 5: 25-34 Outer Symptoms We meet a woman in our scripture today who was visibly and obviously sick. Furthermore, the Bible clearly describes some of the outward symptoms or consequences of her illness. 1. She had an issue of __________. (Mark 5: 25) 2. She had suffered many things from many __________. (Mark 5: 26) 3. She had spent all of her __________. (Mark 5: 26) 4. She had grown worse instead of __________. (Mark 5: 26) Inner Healing Besides our excitement about the woman getting well, our interest in this passage has to do with the fact that at some point, though she had been sick for twelve years, “she felt in her body that she was healed.” Apparently, not only did the blood stop flowing when she was healed, but some type of inner healing also took place. If we simply follow her steps we will find a pattern for our steps towards inner healing. 1. She __________. (Mark 5: 27) 2. She __________. (Mark 5: 27) 3. She __________. (Mark 5: 27)

Series: Inner Space Lesson Number 5: Inner Guide Text: John 16: 7-15 You’re Going to Need a Guide This passage of scripture in John makes us privy to some of the last instructions of our Savior to His disciples. It was in this text that Jesus tells them of His death and of what they would face as a result of their association with Him. In effect, He says to them, “Based on what I know you are about to experience, you are going to need a guide to...” 1. Keep from __________. 2. Deal with __________. 3. Help you in My __________. I’m Going to Send a Guide This guide which Jesus promised to send to His disciples was the Holy Spirit. For the record and our better understanding of the Holy Spirit’s role, let us review what Jesus shared about this guide. 1. He will be __________ by Me. (John 16: 7) 2. He will __________ the world. (John 16: 8-11) 3. He will __________ you in all truth. (John 16: 13) 4. He will __________ you things to come. (John 16: 13)

What is it that could have given Jesus such an inner peace that he could sleep at a time like this? Here are some suggestions. 1. He needed the __________. 2. He knew that His Father knew He was in the __________.

Series: Inner Space Lesson Number 7: Inner Strength Text: Ephesians 3: 14-21 Sources of Strength Paul writes to the Ephesians about his desire that they become strengthened through the Spirit in their inner man. Lest they have any confusion on what it takes to acquire this strength, he tells them. Observe that inner strength comes from: 1. __________. (Ephesians 3: 14) 2. __________. (Ephesians 3: 17) 3. __________. (Ephesians 3: 17) 4. __________. (Ephesians 3: 18) 5. __________. In fact, the text teaches that this strength which comes through Christ is so reliable because... 1. He is __________. (Ephesians 3: 20) 2. He can do __________. (Ephesians 3: 20) 3. He goes above all we ask or __________. (Ephesians 3: 20)

(John 15: 4) Jesus Joy One of the ironic aspects of John 15 is that it is part of a discussion Jesus is having with His disciples about His death. Yet, He talks about joy. Here’s what the passage suggests Jesus wants for us as it relates to joy. 1. That we have __________. (John 15: 11) 2. That His joy might __________. (John 15: 11) 3.
