a mountain made by magma and lava forced up
through the Earth’s crust.
A volcano is:
The types of volcanoes depend on two main factors:
Viscosity
+
GasThe higher the viscosity and the higher the gas content the more powerful the volcano.
The five type of volcanoes are:
1. Stratovolcano
2. Cinder Cone
3. Shield
4. Dome
5. Caldera
Five types of volcanoes
High viscosity (think magma)
High gas content
Steep hills; high mountains
The most powerful volcanoes!!!
Examples:
Vesuzius in Italy
Mt. Saint Helen’s in US
Stratovolcano
Vesuvius Naples, Italy
Mt. Saint HelensMontana, USA
Medium viscosity
High gas content
Most have a bowl shaped crater at the top
Example:
Stromboli in Italy
Paricutin in Mexico
Cinder Cone
ParicutinMexico
Stromboli, Italy
Low viscosity
Low gas content
Usually low and can be hundreds of
miles wide
Example:
Maunu Lau in Hawaii
Shield
High viscosity
Low gas content
Often found in the crater of Stratovolcanoes
Example:
Dome on Mt. Saint Helens
Dome
Formed by the collapse of land after
a volcano erupts
Shaped like a cooking pot or caldron
Example:
La Cumbre in the Galapagos Islands
Caldera
I like volcanoes because they explode fiery red
lava!!!!!
