I am the way, the truth and the life, says the Lord;
no one comes to the Father, except through me.
Yo soy el camino; la verdad y la vida; nadie va al Padre, si no es por mí, dice el Señor.
The Gospel starts with a question: “Lord, will only a few people
be saved?” Jesus offers a simple reply: Strive to enter through the
narrow gate. Not all will fit. The gate has no room for our accom-
plishments. No room for our money. No room for our possessions.
No room for anything else but those who’ve been good stewards of
the Gospel. We can’t custom build our own gates either. There is
only one, narrow gate. What is our plan to get through that gate?
Tampoco podemos construir nuestra propia puerta
personalizada. Solamente hay una estrecha puerta. ¿Cuál es nues-
tro plan para entrar por esa puerta?

Question of the Week
21st Sunday —Luke 13:22-30
Key Passage: “And people will come from the east and the west and from the north and the south and will recline at table in the king-dom of God. For behold some are last who will be first and some are first who will be last.”
Question for adults: Who will be at table in the kingdom of God? Are you included in the guest list, why or why not?
Question for children: Who do you think will be in heaven?
Pregunta de la Semana
21° Domingo —Lucas 13:22-30

Come to the Diocesan Youth Rally on Sept. 25th!
This year’s Youth Rally theme is “Thunderous Mercy.” As we reflect on this simple, yet powerful message, Joe Melendrez will lead us in ways to overcome fears and doubts that keep us from being the BOLD and HEROIC disciple we are called to be! Joe is a Catholic hip hop artist from Southern California who says, “I rap what is real to me and God is very real to me. It is my way of connecting with God and expressing an energetic message of faith, hope, and love for God’s children.”
So come celebrate with Joe and other high school aged youth from all over the Diocese what it means to have “Thunderous Mercy”! There will be Mass, Reconciliation, a keynote and concert by Joe, and in-teractive Corporal Works of Mercy. Cathedral of St. Joseph, Jefferson City, Sunday, Sept. 25th – 12pm registration, $10

Wedding Anniversary: No anniversaries recorded for the month of August.
We lift up to the Lord in
prayer all those who seek heal-
ing through the peace of Christ,
especially Marge Swearengen,
Cecilia Savage and Homer
Poor.
We pray too, for those who
struggle with grief or addictions
and those who labor to provide
our well being and freedom especially first responders and military, and for
those separated from their loved ones and family. For each of them, may the
promise and the gift of the peace of Christ fill their hearts and minds, and may
almighty God always provide their every need.

The Gospel reading today starts with
a question: “Lord, will only a few people
be saved?” Jesus offers only a simple re-
ply: Strive to enter through the narrow
gate. Many will try to enter and will not
be able. Good stewards know there is
only one, narrow gate. Not everything
will fit. This narrow gate has no room for
our accomplishments. No room for our
money. No room for our possessions. No
room for anything else but those who’ve
been good stewards of the Gospel. We
can’t custom build our own gates either.
There is only one, narrow gate that hap-
pens to be open for a time, but for how
long?
From the Deacon’s desk...
(America) A new survey confirms what many have suspected: Catholics born in the 1980s and ’90s are less likely to be active in parish life and are more doubtful about God’s exist-ence than their older peers. That’s according to a study published Tues-day by Georgetown University’s Cen-ter for Applied Research in the Apos-tolate, which revisited a 2008 survey in order to look for changes in how Catholics of all ages practice the faith. Mostly, there has been little change across the board, with Mass attendance, prayer and belief in God remaining stable, in large part because of the stability of older Catholics in church life. Among the findings: Less than a quarter of all U.S. Catholics (22 per-cent) attend Mass weekly, with most (57 percent) reporting that they visit a church “a few times a year or less often.” About three-quarters (76 percent) of U.S. Cath-olics pray at least monthly, and nearly all (96 percent) believe in God. When it comes to the Bible, 61 percent of Cath-olics believe Scripture to be the “inspired word of God.” (Curiously,
21 percent of Catholics break with their church when it comes to biblical fundamentalism, with 21 percent say-ing they believe the Bible is “to be taken literally, word for word.”) During Lent, just under half of all U.S. Catholics (46 percent) receive ashes on Ash Wednesday, but most Catholics (62 percent) do not eat meat on Fridays. About four in 10 Catholics say they either give alms or try to change their behavior during Lent. Confession, or the sacrament of reconciliation, remains wildly unpopu-lar with most Catholics, with 71 per-cent reporting that they either go less than once per year or never. Just 3
percent go once a month or more. Two-thirds of Catholic millennials

Who is my neighbor?
A drop-off in faith participation reported for younger Catholics By Editor, Catholic News, August 19, 2016
(Belief continued) attend Mass “a few times a year or less ,” compared to a majority (55 percent) of pre-Vatican II Catholics, who go once per week. Fewer millennials (25 percent) pray once a day or more than those who pray just a few times per year or less (30 percent). They are more like-ly to say they sometimes (21 percent) or frequently (10 percent) have doubts about the existence of God.
A note of thanks…
I would like to thank those of
you who have prayed for me
the past three and a half
months. To those of you who
have sent cards, flowers,
brought food to our house, and
made phone calls to check up
on me, I appreciate your kind-
ness more than you'll ever
know. As Father mentioned
two Sunday's ago in his
homily, there are many types
of waiting. Now I wait, and
try to be patient for my com-
plete healing. Knowing my
parish family is praying for
me gives me courage to forge
ahead. Thanks again. God
bless you all.
