of merchants as well as traders, come into being a people of a distinctive and

peculiar blend of east and west, both in appearance and culture, to put it

briefly they are composed of various races but they are nationally and legally

called ´FILIPINOSµ.

To our respected instructor in Speech Communication, Mr. Christopher 

Narvato, guests(if there·s any), classmates, friends, ladies and gentlemen, Good

day!. With all of my heart and soul, I am proud to say in front of this crowd that I

am proud to be a Filipino. I am a Filipino not just in words, not just in thoughts but

of course in actions. I am Juan dela Cruz who exists on a precise location on

planet earth, in an archipelago of 7,107 superb islands, which the whole world

calls it the ´Pearl of the Orient Seasµ, the Philippines.

But despite of my being proud to what I am and to where I came from,

our country Philippines still covers with awful Filipinos who are not proud of their 

national identity and becoming a Filipino at all. Hence, I am here in this pedestalto open their closed eyes in the vastness of our tranquillity, to unlock their locked

minds in the oceans of reality and to unveil their veiled hearts in the beauty of

our country.

As a citizen of my beloved realm, I was born to take part of the hope to

our people and humanity. Pedro Carvalho once said, ´Our lack of love for our 

country translates into the many litters of our society such corruption, greed,

selfishness, disunity, insurgence and lack of national ambition.µ It simply means

that as a Filipino we must love our country the way it should be and treasure it

  just like we do to our friends. Let us be the tool of our country to bring out the

greatness in the Filipinos. Let·s decide now and take off to a brighter future of

ours. Let·s have a burning desire in making a real difference. Let·s start healing

our nation.

The future of our country lies now in our hand and we the youth is now the

heroes that our country needs, that·s why we are now called as the new forces

of the Philippines today. John F. Kennedy said and I quote, ´Ask not what your 

country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.µ Therefore, we

must be united as one, as a people and show our love for our country by

improving your own self. Let us be Jose Rizal in fighting for our sovereignty, be

Andres Bonifacio in standing up for truth and freedom and be Efren Peñaflorida

in helping others in achieving their dreams and aspirations in life. Let us be

inspired by achievements of others and make our own mark and identity!!!

Certainly, there·s a lot of world class Filipinos who wave our flag on the

zenith of victory and put the name of our country on the global map or 

concisely who brings pride, honor and glory to our country in many different

arenas, fields of expertise and avenues. They are Filipinos who are soaring

greater heights and showcasing exceptional talents and abilities.

Our people have many more talents that need to be recognized,

harnessed, shared and radiated to others. In terms of natural deposits, we have

miles and miles of shoreline from the stormy seas of Batanes to the emerald isles

of Palawan piled high with fine white sand, lapped by warm waters, and

nibbled by exotic tropical fish. We are also popular of our outstanding tourist

spots and destinations and well known as a land of contrasts and ever-changing

landscapes.

The Philippines is a country blessed with many natural wonders and

resources; and, the best among these God-given resources is its people. Now,

let it be the Philippines turn to the spotlight, limelight and stardom. Let us prove

and bear out that the Filipinos are really worth dying for. Let us dream big, aim

high and fly far above the ground.

We are Filipinos and the powers to live our dreams are within our hands.

Be the Philippines' pride, spread the goodness of every Filipino and shine our 

light for all people to see! We can also be the champion of our country. Just

stand tall, hold our heads up high and be the pride of the

Philippines...Mabuhay!!!!
