I-ACT Policy Statements:I-ACT recommends the use of currently registered FDA equipment and only disposable speculums, rectal tubes, or rectal nozzles. However, should the Therapist use reusable speculums, these speculums should, at a minimum, be autoclaved for sanitation and cleanliness (30 minutes). Additionally, the autoclave unit must be tested and inspected by competent authority at least four times per year- maintain documentation. (Under NO conditions should a disposable speculum or rectal tube be reused).

I-ACT recognizes the FDA classifies equipment used to instill water into the colon through a nozzle inserted into the rectum to evacuate the contents of the colon into three distinct classes; Class I (Enema Kits), Class II and Class III are (Colon Irrigation Systems). Follow the guidelines of your manufacturer, as approved by the FDA for the type of equipment (devices) you are using. Make no claims as to the use of your device other than those approved by the FDA.

The main differences between Class I and Class II devices:

The code of federal regulations CFR 876.5210 & 876.5220 describe the differences between the Class I and the Class II devices. From that regulation, a Class I device is an enema system and does not include “colonic irrigation devices”. A “colon irrigation device” is a Class II device, which in part is described as: “The system is designed to allow evacuation of the contents of the colon during the administration of the colonic irrigation.

The Class I Device: · The Class I device is defined as an enema system and may not have temperature control, temperature gauges or water purification as part of the device. Class I enema systems must be self-administered.· Manufacturers of Class I devices are not required to have third party oversight as they need not com-ply with the good manufacturing practices and record keeping that are required of Class II manufac-turers. Class I devices are not as heavily regulated and controlled by the FDA as Class II devices are.· Owners of Class I devices may not market their service using the terms “colonics or colonic irriga-tion” in describing the scope of their practice of evacuating the contents of the lower bowel.

The Class II Device:· The Class II Device is a “colonic irrigation device”.· Manufacturers of Class II devices are required to have third party oversight and must comply with the good manufacturing practices and record keeping that are required by the FDA. Class II devices are heavily regulated and controlled by the FDA.· The FDA requires Class II devices to be sold and used on or at the order of a physician or health care practitioner. This may be different in each state.

Although I-ACT is not aware of any laws that preclude you from assisting an individual with an enema, I-ACT does want you to consider upgrading your equipment to the equipment that provides the greatest safeguards to the public. In this profession, that would be equipment marketed as Class II devices.

Remember that I-ACT strongly recommends that all I-ACT members use FDA registered Class II devices or devices equivalent to Class II devices regulated by the appropriate agency in your country. Only individuals using FDA registered equipment will be placed on the I-ACT Web Site. Purchase equipment at your own risk. Ensure you are in compliance with your local, state, federal and country guidelines. Ensure that equipment you purchase is cleared for use in your country.

I-ACT recognizes there are two distinct types of colon irrigation systems; open and closed systems. However, it is I-ACT policy that the colon hydrotherapist / technician is always in attendance / or is immediately available to the client throughout the session. The degree of assistance is to be in compliance with the instructions of the manufacturer of the equipment as registered with the FDA, and/or as directed by a physician.

The policy on insertion is to follow the instruction of the referring physician; the guidelines of the manufacturer as approved by the FDA; or the directives from the authority of your city, county, state, or country ordinances.

I-ACT recommends that you do not put the initials (CT) for colon hydrotherapist after your name, write it out in full. According to most state laws, putting initials after your name is not allowed unless you are licensed or have a degree from an accredited professional school.

Advertising copy which states or implies that colon hydrotherapy can treat any disease, promise cure for any disease, or that makes unsubstantiated medical claims SHALL NOT be used.

Dear Members,

2016 is off and running, the year is passing rapidly.

It is hard to believe that we are already one quarter of the way through 2016. Time flies when you are busy.

Speaking of being busy, your Board of directors are busy preparing for our 2016 Convention. This is the time we can all get together and share thoughts and ideas. It is a time to regenerate your batteries and help strengthen your desire to help others. When we come together, we all realize we are not out there alone. There are many others of like mind and spirit.

If you miss this opportunity by not attending the convention, you do yourself a true disservice. Not only do you miss the opportunity for the camaraderie, but you also miss the great educational information from the fantastic speakers.

Many times, our members call the office and ask for information on how to talk to doctors or other things that might help you build your business. The office lets these members know that the information was taught at the convention. When the office checks back we find out that these individuals have never attended a single convention.

Putting on a convention takes a lot of time and effort. The reason we do it is to help you improve yourselves and your business. To give us the opportunity to get together and share our stories and learn how to help our clients help themselves.

In addition, the convention gives us a time to hold our annual corporation meeting. That is right, I-ACT is your corporation, you are a member of our Association, Make sure that you participate in the annual meeting so your voice can be heard.

So, at this point, if you are not registered for our 2016 Convention, stop what you are doing... Stop

reading this newsletter, and register NOW for the convention. We want to see you there.

The Hilton at St. Petersburg is a fabulous hotel that is perfect for our Convention. It is easy to get into the Tampa airport and there is a Super Shuttle that will get you to the Hotel.

The office staff will help you set up a payment plan to make your registration simple on the pocket book.

On another note, we have set a goal to double the number of members that I-ACT has. We plan to do this by having every one of our members get only one new member to join I-ACT. That is all it will take to double the numbers. Here is an idea, ask a friend of yours (that is not an I-ACT member) to accompany you to the I-ACT convention. Introduce them to I-ACT at one of our conventions and we will get a new member. Not only will that grow our membership, but it will make our convention much bigger.

Finally, I would like to mention that we have set up a GoFundMe site to help raise additional funds for education. Read Gayle Marie Palms’ fund raising information on page 23. She has been doing a fantastic job helping us raise funds. We need extra funds, not only for education, but to support the ongoing legislative efforts, in states like PA, HI, and IL. We need to be prepared with sufficient financial resources so we can respond if/when our profession is under attack. If we do not have additional funds, we are always in jeopardy. It is time for you, to help us, help you.

I know I speak for everyone on your Board, we are here to help you and to serve you.

INSURANCEINFORMATION

From The Desk Of: Belinda Massey, RN NBCHT President

To: All Members of NBCHT

We hope you are doing fantastic in 2016.

I can tell you that 2016 is fantastic for your National Board for Colon Hydrotherapy.

You all know how important the NBCHT Exam is since it is used by the only state in the US that licenses colon hydrotherapists, and that state is Florida. The exam is also recognized in CT and CO. The National Board exam is “legally defensible in the event of a judicial action against a colon hydrotherapist”. The NBCHT has a policy to make this exam available to any state that is seeking legislation to help speed up the process and support the effort.

In order to ensure that the NBCHT exam continues to be “legally defensible” and up to date, we are happy to announce that we have just completed version 2 of the NBCHT exam. That is right, we are now on version 2 of the exam.

Your Board has also been looking at our CEU requirements, and we would like your thoughts on the following suggested changes:

• Change policy to state that upon the yearly renewal, that member is to declare that they have 12 CEUs. That NBCHT will do random audits to check for proof.• If I-ACT convention is used for CEUs, that member must attend 12 hours of lectures.• CEUs for medical professionals may be accepted. These types of CEUs should reflect education to such things as HIV, Hepatitis C, OSHA standards.• Additionally, Massage, Nutritional Consulting, Reflexology, and systems training (on colon hydrotherapy devices), may also be accepted just to name a few.•Some of these CEUs can be easily obtained on line for very reasonable rates making it within reach for everyone’s budget.

As our profession continues to grow in standards of care and education, we can uphold the level of knowledge with requiring ongoing education in our CEU requirements.

Thank you for doing your part to help us grow our Association and our Profession.

Sincerely,

Belinda MasseyNBCHT President

ARTICLE

Supplement and Drug Interactions Do Exist!

Recently I came across an article named “How Your Supplements Interact With Prescription Drugs” in The Wall Street Journal. An interesting resource mentioned in the article is an app called About Herbs, a Sloan Kettering website that one of the doctors in the article manages as a service to the public. It’s worth a visit. This source can be accessed by physicians and patients and used to determine potential interactions between herbal supplements and prescription drugs. Something that disturbed me a bit in this article was the repeated references to the possible negative interactions between supplements/herbs and medications. They were zeroing in on cancer and it seems obvious, especially with cancer that my doctor would ask many questions regarding supplements, herbs or over the counter products that I was using. As mentioned in the article, it just makes sense to allow chemo (if that’s your choice) to do its best job, and actually, there are even different foods that might be best to avoid when a person is fighting cancer. Another example given was the potential negative interactions between blood thinners and supplements. As with chemo, blood thinners are very serious medications, given for life threatening issues like stroke or severe cardiovascular events. Maybe I’m naïve, but I would imagine that people on blood thinners would also tell their doctors about all the extra supplements or herbs they might be taking. A personal example that comes to mind is omega-3s which have mild blood thinning effects. Recently I had a minor surgery. My doctor gave me a long list of things that he didn’t want me to take, eat or do. It was a LONG list. Omega-3s were on there. If I have an upcoming situation where I may be bleeding, I don’t want to be taking anything that might thin my blood at all, and cause additional bleeding, now do I? Ultimately it comes down to being responsible for your own wellbeing and not totally surrendering that care to anyone else, even if you simply ask questions. Be truthful with your doctor and let him or her really understand your supplement and dietary choices. And I’m sure you’ll enjoy the About Herbs website. One disappointing feature I discovered is you can search herbs to learn what medications could be negatively impacted, but you can’t search medications and see what herbs should be avoided. Alternatively, you are able to submit a term under “search” like ‘blood thinners’ and then get a list of herbs that work in that way. Should circumstances dictate a need for prescription medication in your future, I would hope you make an effort to understand the potential interactions with your supplement regimen. As I’ve said many times, my greatest wish for you is that you would become your own best health advocate.

Yours in Health,

Brenda Watson, CNC

Why It’s So Hard For Healers to Make Money

When my clients first come to me, they often say, “Shayla, I really love my work and know that this is what I am meant to do. But I am stressed out and barely making just enough to get by. I don’t know where to get clients, and I’m just not making enough money.”

If this describes you, take heart. You’ve already done the important work. You’re a gifted and caring healer, and the world really needs you to stay strong and keep doing your great work. It’s ok that you haven’t learned how to fill your practice with great clients and make more money yet. Most true healers struggle with this, because we are so busy giving and taking care of others that we forget to take care of our business and ourselves. I struggled with this myself, giving so much for so little, and eventually even living in a vandown by the river. I have given over 20,000 colonics, and I finally learned how to get great clients and make more money, without feeling guilty or overworking.

So I want you to know the good news is, you can learn how to get great clients, and you can make more money, and it’s easier than you may think.Let’s look at 4 Myths that prevent healers from making more money and helping more people. We have all learned these myths, either consciously or unconsciously. As you read through these, notice how you feel. Don’t judge yourself here; be very open, curious and compassionate about what is so. Simply notice, and let any unconscious beliefs you may have around money come to the surface.

Myth #1But I’m a Healer. Healers aren’t supposed to sell anything.Myth #2It’s not spiritual to want material things.Myth #3I have to choose between doing good and having lots of money.Myth #4It’s for greedy to want more money.

Which if any of these resonates the most with you? Or what other belief about money came up for you? By allowing your unconscious beliefs - which generate about 90% of what shows up in your life - to rise into your conscious awareness, you are already creating positive changes in your ability to make more money as a healer. The first 2 steps in getting more clients and allowing more money to flow into your life, are:

#1. For you to become aware that you have unconscious moneyblocks, and#2. For you to decide that it’s ok for you to have great clients and ok for you to have more money. Not only is it ok, it’s preferable.

You are not helping anyone by staying small and stressed out and broke. You are a gift, and this world needs you to shine. To Your Health and Freedom,

Shayla Mihaly

Getting Started with Essential Oils ..................................................... By Robin Konie of Thank Your Body.com

Choose Your Oil Wisely

Not all oils are created equal. Just like the food you eat, the oils you use should be as pure, wholeness, and free from extra “stuff ” as possible.

The quality of essential oils can be compromised from a number of things. From the soil conditions to harvesting to manu-facturing and distribution. Because essential oil are concentrated and powerful, you’ll want to be sure your oils are free from pesticides, chemicals, etc.

Things to consider when choosing essential oils:

Plants: The quality of essential oils can be negatively impacted by the use of pesticides and other chemicals, the variability in altitude, soil conditions and rainfall, and the difficulty of differentiating plant species and varieties. Processing: Because of the growing popularity of essential oils and aromatherapy, there are many products on the market that may not be suitable for clinical use. They can be found nearly everywhere, from health food stores to discount stores to the Internet. These products may include pure essential oils, but sometimes they are adulterated or diluted. Such adultera-tions are difficult to identify. Packaging and handling: Other considerations include packaging, storage, and handling. Chemical degradation can occur with exposure to heat, light, or oxygen. Essential oils from citrus products are especially prone to oxidation that can quickly alter the chemistry of those essential oils. Storage: Essential oils should be stored in tightly closed, darkened glass containers in a cool place to ensure lasting quality. You may want to write the date on the bottle after opening it so you can keep track of your own essential oils. Oxidation rates vary, but most essential oils can be safely used for 1-2 years or more after opening.

Don’t just rely on terms like “certified pure” or the like. It’s not that those labels are necessarily bad, but they don’t necessar-ily mean anything either. Your research should go beyond reading a label, especially if you are interested in using oils for medicinal purposes.

Start with Some Basic Oils

Because the world of essential oils is so vast, it’s easy to get overwhelmed when you are first starting out. I highly recommend choosing some basic oils and began using them. This is truly the best way to learn about their potential and how they can fit into your life.

How to Use Essential Oils

– InhalationAromatic uses of essential oils can heighten the senses and have positive effects for the mind and body. You can inhale the oil directly from the bottle, diffuse it with a diffuser.Getting started with essential oils: For anyone who’s wanted to use essential oils but got lost in all the info!

– Topical ApplicationDepending on the quality of your oil, some essential oils are safe to use directly on the skin. Popular areas include ears, temples, soles and tops of feet, abdomen, and upper back. Simply place 1 – 3 drops in the palm of your hand or directly on the desired area and massage the oil in a circular motion. Some oils will require dilution through a carrier oil. I’d recommend checking with the manufacture of your oils to know the safest approach. If you can’t locate the manufacture, switch brands!

– Internal ConsumptionAgain, depending on the quality of your oil it is safe to ingest certain oils as a dietary supplement of food flavoring. It’s always important to follow the recommended dosage on individual product labels and seek the advice of a health professional be-fore taking oils internally.Of course, using essential oils in DIY cleaning products, beauty recipes, or personal care items is another simple way to uti-lize the power of essential oils. There are plenty of recipes on Thank Your Body.com to get you started.

JOKESCOLORADO REGIONALREP REPORT

Hello Colleagues,

Madeline and I are very happy to have our first central mountain regional meeting in 2016. It’s been over two years since there was a regional meeting here. During our meeting there was good interaction with everyone, and great questions brought to the group. Below is a summary of the February 7, meeting.

We began with therapist introductions and learned our stories are very similar and we all have passion for our profession. It was agreed that educating the client could be considered most important.

Madeline Angelus’ presentation on “Energy Medicine” and her introduction to the Energy Medicine 10-Minute Daily Routine was fantastic. Each participant experienced both the energy testing (not muscle testing), for homolateral energy imbalance. Madeline demonstrated each energy medicine technique while the participants followed using

the handouts Madeline gave them. Each participant practiced the various energy medicine techniques that restore the crossing over of energies, left to right and vise versa. The crossing over of energies restore the balance of the brain / body functions, energetically. These effect us on many levels.

This link Energy Medicine 10-Minute Daily Routine is the handout each participant received during the regional meeting, and the information Madeline shared at the 2015 Nashville I-ACT Convention as a breakout speaker.

Since the mid 1990s, Joanie Coffee, TND, worked continuously on HB13-1111, which originally was between the Colorado Naturopaths and Naturopathic Physicians. In early 2013, the bill seemed to be going well. At the last minute, medical doctors associated with HB13-1111, wanted to make colonic irrigations illegal in Colorado.

Joanie and team with Colorado Senator Cherie Jahn held the course. I-ACT, its Board of Directors, the I-ACT membership, and many others came together by donating finances and time to oppose those who would remove our right to practice natural health and, supported SB13-215. It is important to know and understand the requirements for colon hydrotherapy in SB13-215 came from the State, not I-ACT or any other individual or group.

With the assistance of Joanie Coffee, the author of SB13-215, I made and edited my first video which we all watched during the I-ACT regional meeting. Joanie made clear what the Colorado law says about colon hydrotherapy, what is required to practice colon hydrotherapy legally, who may be exempt from this law, and what could happen if this law is violated.

REVIEWED.

Each I-ACT member brought a copy of their intake form and CO disclosure statement. The disclosure statements varied significantly. To assist the I-ACT members, a copy of the original CO disclosure and a sample of the I-ACT CO disclosure statement was emailed to each member.

Funny Poop Jokes And Puns

Did you know that diarrhea is hereditary? It runs in your genes.

I ate four cans of alphabet soup yesterday. Then I had probably the biggest vowel movement ever.

Have you seen that new movie Constipated? It’s not come out yet.

People who tell you that they’re constipated are full of crap.

A man was sitting at a bar one day when a pirate walked in. The pirate had a wooden leg, a hook for one hand, and a patch over one eye.Feeling sorry for the pirate, the man said, “Come over here, my friend. You look as though you’ve had a tough life and I’d like to buy you a drink.”The pirate gladly went over to the man who ordered him a rum. Then the man asked the pirate, “I’m curious, how did you lose your leg?”“Arrrgh!” said the pirate, “I lost that timber to a tiger shark in the Caribbean when I was thrown overboard for stealing a man’s rum.”“Wow, that’s awful!” said the man. “And tell me, how did you lose your hand?”“Arrrgh!” replied the pirate, “I lost that fighting cannibals on a treasure island.”“Oh my word!” the man said, “How awful! And tell me, how did you lose your eye?”The pirate said, “Arrrgh! A seagull pooped in it!”“A seagull!” The man was surprised. He asked, “Is seagull poop dangerous?!”The pirate said, “Nay, matey, it was me first day with the hook.”

Do clown farts smell funny?

A little boy is walking down the country road one day when he comes across a man who has a truck load of cow manure. The boy asks him what he’s going to do with all that cow poop. The man says, “I’m taking it home to put on my strawberries.”The little boy looks up at the man and says, “I don’t know where you come from, but where I come from we put cream and sugar on our strawberries.”

Did you hear about the constipated accountant? He couldn’t budget.

You never really appreciate what you’ve got until it’s gone.Toilet paper is a good example.

I went into a public toilet for a poop the other day. I’d just sat down when I heard a voice from the next cubicle say, “Hi, how are you?”I was a little embarrassed but I replied, “I’m fine thanks.”Then the voice asked, “So what are you up to?”I replied, “Just doing the same as you, sitting here.”Then the voice asked, “Can I come over?”Annoyed, I said, “Actually, I’m a little busy right now.”The voice then said, “Listen, I’ll have to call you back, there’s an idiot next door who keeps answering all my questions.”

SILENT AUCTION AT 2016 CONVENTION!!!!

Let’s think outside of the box to bring in funds for the silent auction. A couple of members have contacted me wanting to know if they can add items such as Raw Crackers or Kale Chips which I think is a great idea but why not expand this to all our creative members that have side businesses. So… I want to challenge you to share your talents with our members- after all we are a networking group. If you have items or crafts you have created, please contact me so we can add to our silent auction table. What this will do…. is create donations for I-ACT but will also bring exposure to your business for future orders. Be Creative. Your generosity is greatly appreciated!

The board is committed to helping you build your practice and grow our organization. Please give us your ideas. It’s important to us. You can send your thoughts to myself: [email protected] or [email protected].

Sincerely,

Gayle Marie PalmsI-ACT fundraising committee

“Colon irrigation devices are prescription devices and only a practitioner licensed by state law to use such devices can purchase such devices in that state.”

Russell Kolbo, DC, NDI-ACT President
