suddenly yesterday morning at 230 oclock at the family residence on East Ro- many street Mr Perdue has been in failing health for some time but his sudden death came as a shock to the family and friends He came here about ten years ago from Fort Deposit Ala and went in ¬ to the grocery and produce business Later falling health compelled him to give up his work He is survived by- a wife four educators have been assigned- to places on the program The city of DeLand will be beauti- fully ¬ decorated with the national colors in honor of the delegates It is estimated that more than a thousand dollars will be expended by the people- of DeLand through their local com ¬ mittee In making special preparations for the approaching meeting It is estimated that more than a thousand delegates will attend The railroad companies will put on extra coaches to accommodate the crowds The people of DeLand have organ ¬ ized a local committee and eight sub ¬ committees to take charge of the va ¬ rious details of preparation and noth ¬ ing Is being left undone which will in any way contribute to the success or the meeting President Hathaway of Jacksonville has expressed himself as very much NATIONAL BANK BURNED SEVERAL SMALL BLAZES IN CITY At an early hour Sunday morning- the handsome home of W K Hyer Jr president of the First National Bank on the Bayshore was totally destroyed by fire the names starting after the family had retired and gain ¬ ing headway so rapidly that the occu ¬ pants of the place had to hunt refuge I in the open air for safety clothed In scanty raiment They took refuge later at the home of Judge Henry Bel ¬ linger the nearest house to the burned residence for the remainder of the night There had been a celebration at the home and all retired late Just how the fire could have started or where- it had its origin was not explanatory- but when the occupants were awak- ened ¬ the place was almost suffocating The house was valued highly but very I little insurance was carried It was richly furnished throughout Some City Fire Trouble About 1130 oclock Sunday night a frame building on Barcelona street near Government was totally destroy- ed ¬ by a fire caught fire yes- terday ¬ and out oT the fear that the ad ¬ joining residential property would ignite the trucks were summoned- No damage of consequence resulted Barn Burned- A barn at the home of County Tax Assessor W W Richards corner of Jackson street and iilghth avenue caught fire and was entirely destroyed at 130 oclock yesterday afternoon At one time the handsome home of Air Richards was In great danger The barn was weJl filled with inflam- mable ¬ material and It burned rapidly The fire was Tanned by a stiff breeze and it was feared at one time that several homes In the neighborhood
