Make yourself at homeTo go with the bright, new body colors, Hyundai designers were convinced the interior deserved a

jazzy treatment as well. Their answer: the optional blue or red trim package, in which the seat insert

color is reflected in the door trims, gear selector and steering wheel. The result is an arresting cabin

look that brings a smile to the face. Both front seats have flexible height mechanisms for

maximum comfort, and the driver’s seat has an adjustable arm rest. For extra convenience

and safety, the comprehensive audio system features additional finger tip controls on the

centre pad of the steering wheel.

How many people need to go with you? How much stuff do you have to carry? Indeed, how on earth will you fit

everything in? The surprising GETZ provides clever solutions to daily questions like these. The secrets are its size,

packaging and flexibility. For a car that requires so little room on the road, the interior width and height, combined

with the long wheelbase, produce an almost magical amount of space inside. Five people can travel in comfort. Then

there’s the versatility of the rear seat folding mechanism, which generates extra room for those occasional delivery

chores. Just release either or both of the two rear backrests. They are hinged so they can rest on top of the seat squab in

order to liberate more room. Still not enough? Then the entire rear seat can be folded forward in two easy movements

for a truly cavernous space for all your bits and pieces. You’ll wonder how you managed before.

As easy as one, two, three

That’s the way to do it. For those occasions when you need a little more storagespace, the rear seat backs can be tipped on to the squabs. For even more space, both canthen be folded forward to stow in upright positions behind the front seats. No previousexperience required.

Easy access. The size of the rear hatchback door has a practical benefit. Because it isso large, it means there is a low sill that allows heavy luggage to be slid easily in and out ofthe car rather than lifted. It is a design feature that your chiropractor would appreciate.

Climate change. GETZ provides a cosy transport haven, whether there is rain or snowoutside, wilting sunshine or shivering frost. Hyundai engineered the car to make sure theoccupants are comfortable whatever the climate conditions. Always on line. GETZ’s standard front disc and rear drumbrakes are installed to provide sure, confident stops and the rear discis further equipped as an option with ABS. When braking on slipperyroad surface or while cornering, the optional Anti-Lock Brake System(ABS) with Electronic BrakeForce Distribution(EBD) adds shorter stoppingdistances and more controlled straight linebraking. EBD automatically apportions brakepower between the front and rear axles inaccordance with the vehicle load and weightdistribution.

Passenger safety is paramount at Hyundai. Thousands of engineers in our technical laboratories devote their working

lives to creating and perfecting vehicle systems that will keep occupants safe. These engineers design future models on

computers that can instantly calculate how a car’s structure would perform in the event of a crash. When they are

satisfied, they use controlled conditions to crash real development models into solid objects in order to confirm their

calculations. These tests are recorded by a series of high-speed cameras whose film can later be studied in slow motion

to see whether passenger protection systems like seat belts and air bags worked according to plan. While this is taking

place, chassis engineers simultaneously hone the car’s ride qualities, road-holding, handling and braking on closed test

At Hyundai, we sincerely hope you neverhave first-hand experience the effectiveness of a car’s air bags.They could save your life, but they represent the last line ofoccupant protection after all other safety devices have beendeployed. GETZ has individual air bags for the driver and frontseat passenger and an additional air bag on each side in the eventof a side impact.

Instant protection.Advanced automotive technology can helpto prevent head and neck injuries causedby whiplash. In the blink of a n eye, theactive headrest (optional) moves upwardand forward to cushion the driver’s head ina major impact. At the same time, seat beltpre-tensioners clamp the occupant to theseat - even before the air bags go off.

A modern car’s body/chassis unit is an engineering marvel.Creating it, though, is a daunting task - one that would beimpossible without computer-aided design techniques. Thestructure has to be as light as possible for good fueleconomy, but as strong as possible for durabilityand safety. The structural integrity of GETZis achieved by combining stampedand welded sheet steels of varyingthicknesses with high strength steelbeams and bars for extra sideimpact protection.

1.1-litre petrol. The entry level modelhas an economical 1.1-litre petrol enginewith single overhead camshaft and 12-valve light alloy cylinder head. Even thismodel has improved power 48.5kW(65ps) at 5,500rpm and torque 99N.m(10.1kg.m) at 3,200rpm.

1.6-litre petrol. This is the well-proven big brother of the new 1.4. Theextra cylinder displacement gives it adistinct edge on power 78kW(105ps) at5,800rpm and torque 144.2N.m(14.7kg.m) at 3,200rpm. Also availablewith automatic.

Whether you are looking for zippy performance or fuel-sipping economy, GETZ is certain to have a powertrain

combination to meet your requirements. The choice comprises a trio of petrol engines and a pair of diesels, all of

which comply with the latest Euro IV emissions regulations. Two of the five are new and the others have been refined

to yield greater power, torque and refinement while at the same time make greater use of every litre of fuel. Each

engine is a four-cylinder that drives the front wheels through a standard five-speed manual gearbox. There’s an

optional four-speed automatic transmission for the two largest displacement petrol engines.

Suspension settings. Hyundai decided to use simple, totallydependable solutions for the suspension. Coil spring and shockabsorber units are attached to MacPherson-type struts at the front andto a torsion beam axle at the rear. The combination produces veryhigh levels of ride comfort, refinement, steering response and roadholding. At the same time, the suspension is compact, which in a smallfamily car like GETZ is important for inside space considerations.

1.5-litre diesel/low. This 16-valve diesel hasan alloy cylinder head and equipped with aVariable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT). It hasbeen tuned to produce more power 65kW(88ps)at 4,000rpm and torque 215N.m(22.0kg.m) at1,900~2,500rpm.

1.5-litre diesel/high. The high-output CRDiis a response to what buyers asked for - evenmore power 81kW(110ps) at 4,000rpm andtorque 235N.m (24.0kg.m) at 1,900~2,7 50rpm.This version also features a light alloy, 16-valvecylinder head and equipped with a VariableGeometry Turbocharger (VGT).

Something for nothing. Variable Geometry Turbocharging (VGT)is the latest in forced induction technology, which uses an exhaust-driven turbine to compress an engine’s air intake charge. That in turnallows for a richer fuel/air mixture to be used, leading to dramaticgains in engine output. The use of a VGT produces an instantaneousengine response whenever the accelerator is floored.
