Hydrosphere Use the image below to complete the diagram on your worksheet
The area where water fills the aquifer is called the saturated zone (or saturation zone). The top of this zone is called the water table.
The water table may be located only a foot below the ground’s surface or it can sit hundreds of feet down.

Hydrosphere Water Demonstration
Imagine all of the water on earth.
Salt water accounts for 97.5% of all water on Earth. Fresh water is much less abundant. Ice and permanent snow account for 1.56% Ground water counts for 0.9% Easily accessable drinking water accounts for 0.036%.
Hydrosphere
Look at the visual representation of all sources of water on
Earth. Discuss with your group the importance of fresh water conservation.
Hydrosphere
Definition: The hydrosphere contains all of the solid, liquid, and gaseous water on the planet!
Examples: Come up with your own
examples for each state of water.
Salt water = ~970 mL Ice & permanent snow = ~20.6mL Groundwater = ~9.0 mL Lakes = ~0.08 mL Swamps = ~0.01 mL Rivers = ~0.002 mL (5 drops) (1 drop)

The Structure of our Atmosphere
Use this video and the pictures to draw the major layers of the atmosphere on your worksheet. Include: Troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere, and thermosphere. For each layer, write one interesting fact and the width of
each layer.

Atmosphere
Definition: The atmosphere contains all of the gases that surround Earth.
Examples: Write down the % of each on your sheet
Earths Gas Composition Nitrogen 78% Oxygen 29%
Argon 1% CO2 0.03%
Other: He, Ne, methane, nitrous oxide, ozone – trace amounts
Atmosphere iPad Question
Use your iPad to define atmospheric pressure and how it is measured.
Fill this in on your worksheet.
Geosphere
Definition: The geosphere is all the rocks, minerals & ground found on and in the Earth.
Examples: Mountains, liquid rock in the mantle, ocean floor, all rocks on the surface, sand in the desert.
Geosphere Observe this picture and write down at least 2 parts of the geosphere you
can see on your worksheet. Be specific.
