How does Hydro power work? Flowing water from a high level will
flow into a pipe called the penstalk which carries the water down
to a turbine water wheel. The water pressure increases while it
goes down the pipe, and the pressure powers the turbine connected
to the a generator. Inside the generator is a router that is spun
by the turbine.

As the turbine spins the generated energy is turned into
electricity and transferred to the power lines. The electricity
goes to the generator. Once the electricity is generated it is
mixed with all of the other power grid.

What it is use for? Hydro power is use for irrigation and the
operation of many mechanical devices such as watermills, cranes and
sawmills.irrigation It is generated of electricity by the push/pull
of the water. It generates it by 3 different ways: Tidal power,
Wave power and Hydroelectric power It is also use for flood control
and for navigation.

Benefits of having hydro power The benefits of having hydro
power is Dams are designed to last many decades and so can
contribute to the generation of electricity for many years /
decades.

How much Hydro Power Costs Hydro power is very expensive. It
depends on the place it was produced (created). To build a dam
would cost 250 mill to 1.25bill.

Advantages and disadvantages that Hydro power have Advantages
1.If electricity is not needed, the sluice (its like a slide that
takes out rocks from rivers) can be shut and stop the electricity
generation. The water can be saved for another time when
electricity charge is high. 2.Dams can be last for decades and can
assign electricity for many years.

3. When it is use, electricity by dam systems do not harvest
green house gases. 4.Once a dam is created electricity can produced
at a constant rate. (it means a amount of a number or more than one
amount of numbers) 5. A lake that forms behind the dam can be used
for water sports and other activities in the water. Large ones
become tourist attractions.

Disadvantages 1.Dams are expensive 2.People living in towns and
villages that is in a valley has to move out because of flood. they
lost their farms and their lands. 3.If a dam breaks, many people
would probably die. It happened before in The U.S because of a
heavy rainfall.

4. hydropower dams can disturb the natural flow of rivers which
can have negative impact on many river ecosystems 5. If really
large hydropower dams are built, it can lead to earth quakes,
erosion, landslides and serious geological damage.

Reliability Hydro power is more reliable than any other forms
of electricity. Why? Because the water will keep flowing down hill,
as long as the water never dries out, they will always create
electricity. You will never run out of gas or uranium or coal to
power the plant.

How much of Canadas energy comes from hydropower? Canada is the
worlds second highest producer of hydroelectricity in the world
after China. It is one of few countries to generate the majority of
its electricity from hydroelectricity (59% in 2006). In 2007,
Canada produced 368.2 terawatt- hours of electricity using
hydroelectric dams,11.7%. Some provinces and territories, such as
British Columbia, Manitoba, Newfoundland and Labrador, Quebec and
Yukon, produce over 90% of their electricity in Canada
