Navigating Through the Controller Screens Thecontrollerfeaturesafullcolortouchscreenmakingnavigationeasy.
TheHomescreen, shownbelow,has3buttonsallowingyou toviewandrunyour irrigationzones,changecontrollersettingsorviewstatusinformation.
Eachscreen(exceptforthehomescreen)hastwobuttonsatthetopofthepageallowyoutoquicklynavigatetotheHomescreenorthepreviousscreen.
All itemsoneachscreenarecolorcodedto indicatewhichscreenelementsarebuttonsandwhichscreenelementsindicatestatusinformation.

Connecting to a WiFi network Whenyourcontrollerisfirstpoweredonitwillrunashortwizardtoconnectyourcontrollertoyourwirelessrouter.

Make sure you press theOK button after you’ve entered your password. Pressing theHome orBackbuttons willnotsaveyourchanges.
Whenconnectingtoyourwireless, theWiFi Icon atthebottomrightofthecontrollerscreenwillflash.Connectingtakesabout30secondsandwhensuccessfullyconnectedtheWiFiIcon willstopflashingandstayon.

Thecurrentstatusofthecontroller’sconnectiontoyourwirelessrouterisshownatthetopofthescreen.Thecontrollerwillautomaticallyattempttoconnecttotheconfiguredaccesspointifaconnectionislost(forexample,afterpowerfailure).
Touchonanyofthegreenbuttonstochangethewirelesstype,securitytypeorpassword.
ConfiguringWirelessNameTouchingonthecurrentlyconfiguredWirelessNamewillautomaticallystartascanofalllocalwirelessroutersandallowyoutochooseanewone.
Afterabout5secondsalistoffoundwirelessnetworkswillbelisted.Toselectawirelessname,touchonthewirelessnameandthentouchConfirm.DonotpresstheHomeorBackbuttonsafterselectingyourwirelessroutername–theseoptionswillnotsaveyourroutername.
Eachtimeyoutouchawirelessnamethesignalstrengthwillbeshownatthebottomofthescreen.
Ifyourwirelessrouterisnotshownthencheckthefollowing–
• YourHydrawisecontrolleriswithinrangeofyourwireless.• Youraccesspointisconfiguredtoacceptconnectionsfrom802.11b/gwirelessclients.
If your wireless router is hidden you may manually enter it by selecting Manually enterwirelessandtypinginthename.
ConfiguringthesecuritytypeThesecuritytypeconfiguredonthecontrollermustmatchthesecuritytypeconfiguredinyourwireless router. The Hydrawise unit can attempt to automatically detect this if you chooseAutoDetectasthesecuritytype.
Hydrawisesupportsthefollowingsecuritytypes–
• Open• WPAPersonal• WPA2Personal• WPAAuto
AfterchoosingthesecuritytypepresstheConfirmbutton.
SettingyourpasswordFor any security mode (except for Open) your wireless router password must be entered.Wirelesspasswordsareaminimumof8charactersandarecasesensitive.
AftertypinginyourpasswordpresstheOKbutton.DonotpresstheHomeorBackbuttons–theseoptionswillnotsaveyourpassword.

Troubleshooting Wireless Connection Issues After entering your wireless settings, the controller will connect to your access point. Theconnectionprocesstakesabout30seconds.
UponsuccessfulconnectionthewirelessstatuswillshowConnected.
Ifyourcontrollerfailstoconnecttoyourwirelessroutercheckthefollowing–
• Yourpasswordisenteredcorrectly.Itiscasesensitiveandmustbeatleast8characterslong.
• Checkthatthewirelesssecuritytypesmatchbetweenthecontrollerandyourwirelessrouter.HydrawiserecommendsuseofWPA2securitybetweenthecontrollerandyourwirelessrouter.

Viewing Controller Status From theHomescreen navigate to theController StatusbypressingStatusèControllerStatus.
The controller status screen shows your controller’s connection to Hydrawise servers forsynchronisingscheduleandweatherinformation.
ServerStatusAsuccessfulconnectiontotheHydrawiseserversisindicatedbySync’dastheServerStatus.

WirelessDownController has not connected successfully to your wireless. Go toSettingsèWirelessSettingstocheckthewirelessstatus.

routersuchasmetalitems(metalisanextremelygoodisolatorforWiFisignals).• Moveyourwirelessrouterclosertothecontroller.• Installahighergainantennaonyourwirelessrouter.• UseEthernettoalocationclosertothecontrollerandinstallanewwirelessrouter.• ConsideraWiFirepeaterbetweenyourwirelessrouterandtheHydrawisecontroller
toboostthesignalstrength.• Considermovingthecontrollerawayfrompotentialsourcesofinterference,including
• Microwaveovens• Cordlesstelephonesoperatinginthe2.4GHzrange–youcouldalsochangethe
channelyourphoneuses• Nearbybasestationsusingadjacentchannels
NotethattheHydrawiseunitisdesignedtoworkinpoorwirelessenvironments.However,ifyouwishtomanuallyrunorstopazoneandthewirelesssignalisdownthentheseactionswillfail.
OfflineModeIfthecontrollerlosesinternetformorethan24hoursyou’llreceiveanotificationemail.
Thecontrollerwillgointoanofflinemode. Inofflinemodeyourcontrollerwon’tbeabletoaccesslocalweatherconditionssuchasrainfallorevaporationandwillreverttoapre-definedprogram.
• ForSmart(ET)Wateringzones,thecontrollerwilladjusteachzone’swateringlengthbasedonyourofflinewateringbudgetandwillwaterateachzone’sconfiguredpeakwateringfrequency.

• ForTimeBasedwateringzones,thecontrollerwilladjusteachzone’swateringlengthbased on your offline watering budget and will water at each zone’s configuredwateringfrequency.
• NotethatCycle&SoakisnotsupportedinOfflineModeandeachzonewillwaterforitsfullwateringlengthwithoutpausing.
• ThecontrollerwillonlywateratyourconfiguredProgramStartTimes.
SavingSettingsThecontrollerdoesn’thaveabatterybackup–settingsarestoredinnon-volatileRAMwhichispreferableasbatteriesneedtobeperiodicallyreplaced.
SerialNumberThe serial number is used to link your actual controller with your Hydrawise account. Thisnumberisalsoprintedontherearofthecontroller.
Viewing Network Information and Testing Internet Connectivity From the Home screen navigate to the Network Status by pressing StatusèControllerStatus.
All settingson thispageareprovided to the controllerby yourwireless routerwhen it firstconnectsviaaprotocolknownasDHCP.Ifanyofthesesettingappearincorrectpleasechangetheminyourwirelessrouter.
Once the controller has successfully connected to your wireless router the Test Networkbuttoncanbeused to testnetworkconnectivity for troubleshootingpurposes.Thenetworktestwillverifyconnectivityto4destinations–
CheckingWiFi PerformsapingtesttotheGatewayaddresslistedintheNetworkStatusscreen.Ifthistestfailscheckthatyoudon’thaveMACaddressfilteringenabledonyourrouter.
CheckingDNS Performs a ping test to the DNS address listed in the Network Statusscreen. If this test fails check that the DNS address is correct – if it iswrong then correct the DNS address under DHCP Settings on yourwireless router. It is possible that this test may fail if the DNS serverdoesn’tnotacceptpingrequestswhichdoesnotindicateanissue.
CheckingInternet PerformsapingtesttotheGoogleserveratIPaddress8.8.8.8.Thisisawell known serverwhich accepts ping requests on the internet. If thistestfailsthenitindicatesanissuewiththeinternetconfigurationofyourwirelessrouter.

Eachzoneiscolorcodedtoindicatethecurrentstatusofthezoneasfollows–
Green Zoneisscheduledtorunatsometimeinthefuture.
Grey Thiszoneisnotscheduledtoruninthefuture.
Blue(dark) Zoneiscurrentactive.
Blue(light) Zone is waiting for another zone to finish watering and then will startimmediately.
Gold Thiszoneisamasterzone.
BLUE indicates that this zone is currently running
GREEN indicates a zone with a scheduled runtime
Range of Zones you are viewing
GOLD indicates a Master Valve (if configured)

TheZoneStatusscreenallowsyoutoviewthefollowinginformation–
ZoneName ThisisthenameoftheZoneyou’veconfiguredintheHydrawiseapp.
Sensor ThecurrentsensorstateifconfiguredintheHydrawiseapp.
WaterUsage Water usage for this zone run. This is only shown if you have a flowmeterinstalledandthezoneiscurrentlyrunning.
Current Indicatesthecurrentthatallsolenoidsareusing(includingamastersolenoidifconfigured). Generally speaking, this value ranges from 200mA to 600mAdependingonthenumberofsolenoidsattachedtoasinglezoneoutput.Thecontrollerhasabuilt-in failsafetoautomaticallystopyourzone ifmorethanapproximately 800mA is detected as this may indicate a faulty solenoid orwiring.
TheZoneStatusscreenalsoallowsyoutomanuallystartazoneusingtheRunNowbutton.When started, the zone will run for the zone’s default configured run length. This can beoverriddenbyclickingonRunTimepriortomanuallystartingthezone.
When a zone is running the Run Now button will change to Stop, allowing you to stop arunningzone.

You can subscribe to one or more weather stations by clicking on them and choosingSubscribe.Theweatherstationsthatyou’vesubscribedtowilldisplayinblue.
You can subscribe to one of the two closest airport stations for free – these will beupdated daily. If you have an Enthusiast plan you can subscribe to up to 5 personal,airport or other official stations. The advantage of subscribing to multiple weatherstations is that the results will be evaluated to remove any particularly high or lowreadingswhichmightbeinaccurate.

SettingProgramStartTimesThe laststep inconfiguringyourcontroller is tosetupyourProgramStartTimes.Thesewilltellyourcontrollerwhenit’sallowedtowater.Youcansetspecificdaysoftheweekor use odd/even watering days. You can also set the time of day and then link theprogramstarttimestoparticularzonesandschedules.

Time Based Watering ForTimeBasedwateringyoudecidethewateringfrequencyandlength,eitherbyenteringtheinformationdirectlyorchoosingapreconfiguredwateringschedule.ThecontrollerwillusetheWateringTriggersyou’vesettoautomaticallyadjustitswateringschedule.
Smart (ET) Watering Smart (ET) watering is an automated watering schedule that uses information aboutenvironmental conditions to ensure your plants get the optimum amount of water.Evaporation will draw moisture from your garden, while rainfall and irrigation will addmoisture.UnderstandingtheseconditionsallowsHydrawisetodecidewhenthetimeisrighttowateryourgarden.ETstandsforevapotranspirationandisexplainedfurtherinthediagrambelow.
Foreachzone,we’llaskyoutospecifythewateringlengthandpeakwateringfrequency:
• Thewateringlengthishowlongwateringneedstoruntofullywateryourzone.• Thepeakwateringfrequencyishowoftenyouwouldnormallywaterthiszoneduring
yourpeakirrigationperiod.

Howdoesitwork?Zone valves are the individual valves that operate a group of sprinklers or drip emitters.Typicallyonezonevalveisturnedonatatime,andcontrolstheirrigationinaspecificareaofyourgarden.Wheneveroneoftheirrigationzonevalvesistoldtoopenbythecontroller,thecontrolleralsosignalsthemastervalvetoopen-themastervalveactslikeabackupvalve,ora fail-safe valve. The purpose of themaster valve is to shut off thewater to the irrigationsystemwhennoneofthezonevalvesareoperating.

Preconfigured Watering Schedules

For example,whenever you install turf, youmightwant towater it for 30minutes twice aweek. You can set up a preconfigured watering schedule that you then apply to all therelevantzones.
