HYDRAULIC PRO STEERING
SYSTEMS FOR BOATS & VESSELS Boats with speeds under 25 knots, the torque of the rudder is calculated by a certain
formula dependent on :
- The maximum speed of boat
- The angle and surface area of the rudder
- The total sweep of the rudder (and part of the boat), if the rudder stock is not
perpendicular
- The Compensating surface of the rudder
Note: An important factor for the choice of the steering cylinder is the type of hull (i.e.
: planning or displacement) as it can impact the vessel speed:
Planing Hull: Boats with planning hulls are designed to rise up and glide on the surface of
water when enough power is supplied. While they are like displacement hulls at slow speeds,
they ride higher as they move faster. Displacement Hull: Boats with displacement hulls move
by pushing the water aside and are designed to cut through the with surface with maximum
thrust at low propulsion speeds.
SELECTION OF A HYDRAULIC STEERING SYSTEM FOR INBOARD APPLICATIONS Torque Calculation Formula for Speed below 25 Knots:Corrections in function of the type of
boat : - For sailing boats : T x 0.5
T = A x [ (0.4 W) – Wc ] x V² x K- For a boat with a steering nozzle : T x 2.0 - For twin engine power boats with 1 rudder :
T T = Torque in Kgmx 0.5 A = Total surface area of rudder (H x W) in sq m- For boats fitted with several rudders H = Height of rudder in m(catamarans, trimarans, monohulls) : T x W = Width of rudder in mnumber of rudders Wc = Compensation width in m V = Maximum speed of the boat in knotsNote: If the selected pump has a higher flow K = Coefficient according to total angle of rudderrate & in order to reduce the number of turns, - Port to starboard 70° K = 15.90use a steering wheel with the maximum - Port
to starboard 80° K = 17.80recommended diameter. - Port to starboard 90° K = 19.60

STEERING SYSTEMS OF THE
FUTURE ALUMINIUM PRO SERIES
The Aluminium Pro Series steering System are ideal for smaller boats like boats of
upto 11meters with a capacity of 10-50 people, with an in-board engine torque on
rudder up to 110 Kgm / 1100 Nm and angle of rudder from starboard to port of 700.
BRASS SUPER-PRO SERIES
The Brass Max-Pro Series of Steering System works well on small to big size boats
like speed boats, pleasure boats, yachts of up to 38 meters, with an in-board engine
torque on rudder of upto 1342 Kgm/13420 Nm and a rudder angle from starboard to
port of 700.

STEEL MAX-PRO SERIES
The Steel Max-Pro Series of Steering Systems Works well on small to big size boats
like speed boats, pleasure boats, Yachts of up to 38 meters, with an in-board
engine torque on rudder of up to 1342 Kgm / 13420 Nm and a rudder angle from
starboard to port of 700.
BALANCED / SINGLE ENDED TWIN STEEL ULTRA-PRO SERIES
The Balanced / Single Ended Twin Steel Ultra-Pro Series Steering systems are
suitable for large size vessels like fishing trawlers, commercial boats, barges
with in-board engine torque on rudder of upto 3008 Kgm / 30080 Nm and angle of
rudder from starboard to port of 700.
