At the beginning of the process, the composition of the feed gas is first checked for quality (1). The pure methane (CH4) stream is checked for purity by the SERVOTOUGH SpectraExact, while percent levels of oxygen (O2) and CmHn compounds are checked by the SERVOTOUGH Oxy 1900 and SERVOTOUGH SpectraScan 2400 respectively

Post-compressor, the CH4 stream is heated in the boiler, where the effective and safe combustion of O2 and carbon monoxide (CO) is monitored respectively by the Paramagnetic and Thick Film sensing in the SERVOTOUGH FluegasExact (2). The FluegasExact enables the combustion process to be adjusted to maintain safety and optimize combustion efficiency.

Emissions monitoring from the process is handled by the

SERVOPRO 4900 (3), which offers CEMS measurements for a range of gases being vented from the steam reformation process, most notably O2, CO, carbon dioxide (CO2), sulfur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen oxide (NOx) gases.

Percent O2 analysis of the crude hydrogen (H2) produced by the catalyst is performed by the SERVOTOUGH Oxy (4), which provides a safe area O2 measurement from the flammable product stream. Percent levels of CO and CO2 in crude H2are also measured after the product stream leaves the catalyst (5), while ppm levels of CO, CO2 and also CH4 are measured in the H2 stream once it leaves the product swing absorber (PSA) (6). Both measurements can be made in the flammable sample stream by the SERVOTOUGH SpectraExact or in-situ by the SERVOTOUGH Laser.

Post-PSA, the SERVOPRO FID gas analyser monitors total hydrocarbons (THC), which are checked at trace levels to maintain quality in the post-PSA H2 stream (7) and at the bottling stage (11).

A ppt analysis of O2 is required to maintain H2 product purity (8), with the DF-370 measuring 0-10 ppm 02 as the purified H2 stream leaves the Pressure Swing Absorber and the DF-310/DF-370 measuring 0-1/10ppm 02 at the bottling stage (10).

A range of gaseous impurities can be present at trace levels en route to gas bottling (9). The multiple trace measurement capability offered by the SERVOPRO Chroma is the ideal single analyzer solution for measuring ppm levels

of N2, CH4, CO, CO2 and Argon (Ar).

Alongside PPM O2 and THC measurements, trace moisture in the H2 end product is monitored by the DF-745 (12), which uses Tuneable Diode Laser technology to detect ppm levels of H2O present in the end product.

Finally, trace impurities accumulated in transfer from bottling to cylinders are monitored by the SERVOPRO Chroma (13), which detects a wide range of impurities down to low ppb levels.
