The social inequalities of gender, race, income, and education, to name a few, are almost so common they seem like fixed realities in the universal structure. Jesus once told a parable about a rich man and a poor man named Lazarus. It’s actually the only time Jesus ever used a proper name in one of his parables. It’s an interesting story, to say the least, about family and strangers, wealth and poverty, heaven and hell. It’s really a parable about disparity. A cursory reading of the parable might leave one confused; but at its heart, the message is crystal clear. Join me as we hear the clarion call of Christ, to join God in his work of renewal, reconciliation, and redemption. The center floral arrangement is given in honor of the 90th birthday of Ernest Zane by his wife of 61 years, his children, and seven grandchildren. He has been a faithful member of this church since 1960.

We regret to announce the death of Louis Livingston Smith on September 9. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Patti and Richard Catalano, two grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Services will be held September 24 at 4 p.m. in the sanctuary with reception to follow in the Fellowship Hall.

We regret to announce the death of Alice Soderblom on September 12. She is survived by her husband, Robert, children Doug Soderblom, Alan Soderblom, Sheryl Sokolies, and Debra Soderblom-Vickers, and seven grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held September 25 at 4:00 p.m. at the Calimesa SDA Church.

Sabbath School leaders are needed to teach our children from infant to grade 3 on Sabbath mornings from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Email Pastor Shawna Campbell at [email protected].

Loma Linda Academy’s 17th-annual Roadrunner Golf Classic will tee off on Sunday, September 25, at the Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon.
