Disparity is something we encounter in life in some form almost every day. The social inequalities of gender, race, income, and education, to name a few, are almost so common they seem like fixed realities in the universal structure.

Jesus once told a parable about a rich man and a poor man named Lazarus. It’s actually the only time Jesus ever used a proper name in one of his parables. It’s an interesting story, to say the least, about family and strangers, wealth and poverty, heaven and hell. It’s really a parable about disparity. A cursory reading of the parable might leave one confused; but at its heart, the message is crystal clear. Join me as we hear the clarion call of Christ, to join God in his work of renewal, reconciliation, and redemption.
