The Wonky Donkey The Wonky Donkey has 1 eye, 1 mane and three legs and he likes to sing. But why does he like to sing? Maybe he wants to be an author. He is quite tall and slim. He has a long tail. I really enjoyed the show. He is a really good singer. William Mcleod (Yr 2) The Wonkey Donkey Yesterday the class and I went to a silly but amazing donkey show!!! We sat down to see what the Wonky Donkey book was all about. He has one eye and three legs. Whooooo everyone likes the Wonky Donkey so much. He has a brown, furry body with a fluffy tail and a pompom. Why does he like to sing? We like to sing!! He likes to dress up as the Wonkey Donkey. I really enjoyed the Wonkey Donkey soooo much!!!! Joel Fenton - Magician
On Monday 28 November we were lucky enough to get Mr Joel Fenton to come to our school to do some magic tricks. Mr Fenton has Hunterville ties as Mrs Maureen Fenton is his grandmother, and he learnt to do magic tricks when he was in Hunterville. He’s cousins to Brodie, Breanna and Baeleigh Gray.
Some of the tricks that he did were to do with knives and balloons and riding unicycles. The first trick Joel did was juggle knives. He then did this trick with this big yellow balloon which was tricky as.
He rode this massive as unicycle and when he got up on it he started juggling knives. Next he did his last trick of his show which was blowing up a massive balloon. Once it was fully blown up he put his head in then he put his whole body in the balloon and started jumping round inside it. Overall we really enjoyed Mr Fenton coming to show us his tricks. They were all good tricky tricks. By George Lambert (Yr 8
School Band On the 26th of November was the Marton Market Day and the Hunterville School band was invited to play. We arrived at 9:50am to help set up and do a quick run through. Our first song was We Will Rock, it worked out pretty well even though we mucked up a few times. Our second song was Roll With Me, but we forgot the lyrics halfway through although luckily we recovered. Our third song was Sweet Home Alabama, and that went better than I expected. Our last song, called Stir It Up, went really well, especially for our second time doing it, even though Emma forgot where to come in! Our next performance is at the school picnic. The Band has so far been great with us learning new songs and getting to sing and play instruments. Thanks to Mr Munk, our tutor. (See photo back page)

Disco Night The disco is a fun night for all the students at Hunterville School. The Yr 8s get to go up on stage and dance if we want to. There’s drinks and food to buy, also Glow Sticks, glow rings and a lot more glow stuff. You usually find people dancing together or in groups. The food was great and so was the music thanks to Mrs Dalley. There were many prizes given out during the night and the best dressed went to Baeleigh Gray and Oliver Bunn. There was also an award to best dancers, which was Mrs Christie and her daughter Ally, and then it was Mrs Lane and her son Lachie. Most people sit down the back and just talk, drink and eat and it’s a pretty fun night for people to dance and muck around. Hopefully there will be another disco some time this year. We fundraised over $400, which is going towards painting our planter boxes in whanau colours. By Brodie Gray Yr 8

Resolution Bay Camp It was 5am on a Monday morning - camp day! The year 7 & 8s were heading to Marlborough Sounds. When I got to the school I jumped in Mr Lambert’s car with Patrick and George L. It was a long two hours squished in the back of the ute.
As soon as we got to Wellington we took all our bags off the ute and met over at the terminal. We got handed our tickets and went on the ferry. When we got on the ferry we had our own little lounge for 30 students and about 12 adults. We got a chance to have a look all over the ferry. Once we had arrived in Picton we went to the Edwin Fox Museum. It was an old ship that brought convicts to New Zealand. Then we loaded our bags onto the Cougar Line boat and left for Resolution Bay. As soon as we got there we got a tour around the place and it looked like a good camp. I was in KEA with George L, George S, Will T, Mack W and Mr Lambert so I couldn't complain about this cabin. We settled in and went and jumped off the jetty. The next day was my birthday and I was really pleased to spend my birthday with lots of others. We went fishing, and between Maca and me, we got 27 fish each but they were blue cod so we had to put them all back because of a ban. Before we went fishing we did a 1 hour and 40 minute walk which wasn't too bad. Day 3 we had to do a bigger walk which took 2 hours each way. On Thursday we just did stuff around camp like kayaking, swimming, walking and compass work. After a while Will and I were walking to our cabin, opened our door and there was a weka standing on the floor so Will and I threw it out. But then we found weka poop on the floor so the other boys cleaned it up. Later that night was our camp concert and we were called Hunting Bros we failed but in a funny way, because we were taking the mickey out of it.
Friday morning came quickly, it was the day everyone wasn’t looking forward to because of the long 3 hour Ferry trip. The Cougar Line was running late but when it got to the bay we loaded our bags and left to go to the ferry. We had a really fun ride home on the ferry. Heaps of us got chatting to this Chinese guy and lots of other people. We stopped in Levin for a fish and chip tea and then went home. It was a really fun camp and I really hope to get down there again one day. By Brodie Gray (Yr 8)

Year 5 Camp – By Hayden Lourie
A couple of weeks ago the Year 5s went to Rawkawa Falls. When we got there we had to unpack our bags and take them to our cabins. There were different coloured cabins and I was in the RED cabin. Next we got showed where to go for our activites. On the first day we did the flying kiwi and kyaking. The kyaking was really fun. When we got to the flying kiwi, no one wanted to go first so I went first. The next day we did the waterslide and walking to the falls. When it was time to go down the waterslide I raced into our cabin and got my togs on and raced over to the waterslide and ran up the stairs and came flying down the slide. When the rest of the group came we had about 5 turns each coming down the slide. When we got too cold we went and had a nice hot shower and had some lunch. After lunch we were kyaking in a dam which was full of eels, so we made sure we didn't fall out. That was really fun. At night we played spotlight and Jack and I didn't get found. The next morning we did archery and Harry and I hit the bullseye of the target. Mr Johansen betted on Harry that he could hit the bullseye. Next we did the highropes and I was first up to the top. At the end, we did rock climbing and Harry and I got the highest out of all the kids. Then we had to clean up camp and leave. Thank you to Mr Johansen for taking us on this camp.

Year 5 Camp
When we got to school we had to wait in the libary untill everyone was there. We went over the rules then we hit the road. Mr Johansen was in Dad’s car with Brigdet, Katie and I. We finally arrived at camp. We got settled in our cabins and met Robyn, Beca and someone else. After lunch we started our first activity. I was a captain in group 2 with Hayden. Our first activity was the flying kiwi. You make a line then the first person gets put in a harness. Then the next person and so on. We then went on the waterslide. I liked the abseiling the best. Abseiling is climbing up a wall then coming down the other side but it was too windy so we climbed up the ladder. The camp was really fun and I enjoyed all of the activites, thanks to Mr Johansen. Yr 7/8 Camp to Resolution Bay On the 21st of November I woke up really early in the morning to set off for camp in the Marlborough Sounds. Finally we arrived and packed our bags onto the truck that held our luggage over the Cook Strait. We hopped on the ginormous Ferry called the Kaitaki Interislander and started our amazing journey. There was a gift shop, a playground, cinemas and a few cafe’ on the boat. Once we arrived in Picton, we went to the Edwin Fox Museum and got to go on the Edwin Fox boat. We learnt heaps about its history and we were all really hungry afterwards, so we sat down and had lunch. Soon after, we loaded up the launch and headed to Resolution Bay. When we arrived we found our cabins and walked to Schoolhouse Bay. Once we were finished walking we jumped off the jetty, went and did diary entry, had dinner and had a couple of rounds of spotlight. Then we slowly went to sleep.
On the second day, most of us woke up and jumped off the jetty and soon after we all had a delicious breakfast together. We had a small briefing and we were off, half of us walked to Ships Cove while the others went fishing. Once my group arrived at Ships Cove, the fishing boat came back in and we all went to Motuara Island. We had to climb a long, steep hill but got to see a beautiful view once we reached the top. My group then dropped the other group back at Ships Cove and went fishing with Captain Colin Davenport and his dog Lucy. I caught three blue cod but had to put them all back as there is a blue cod ban down in the Marlborough Sounds. Next we went back to camp and had a bit of down time, doing camp concert preparation. Lastly we did our diary entry, had dinner, had supper and had rounds of spotlight, then went to bed.
We woke up on the third day to a swim early in the morning and then had breakfast. Today we were doing a long walk to Furneaux Lodge to get ice-cream. The walk was supposed to take 3 hours to get there but we set a fast pace and got there in around 2 hours. Sadly when we got there, we were all shocked to find out that there was NO ice-cream! The lodge wasn't going to get ice-cream until December, so the school shouted us each a raspberry ice-cream spider that had the teensiest bit of ice-cream. Next we had lunch and walked back to camp. We had a bit more camp concert preparation then did our daily routine of diary entry, dinner, supper, spotlight, then bed.
Today was our last full day at camp so we woke up had a swim, had breakfast then split into four groups called Endeavour, Discovery, Resolution and Adventure. I was in Discovery and the first thing my group did was walk to Schoolhouse Bay. Next we kayaked back, had lunch, did some orienteering and lastly we went biscuiting. Finally we had our camp concert and the next day travelled back home. By Morna Collie (Yr 8)

Looking Back in History 1928
February: Principal Mr E L Ironmonger. Roll 150. The Secondary Department was to be kept open, but unless more pupils arrive it must be closed. February: During the past 10 days, I have dismissed the pupils at noon owing to the intense heat. This course of action was taken after consultation with the school committee, who decided that when the temperate reached 75 degrees in various rooms, children were to be sent home. March: At the boards meeting today, my resignation as headmaster of this school was accepted. On The 1st of April I shall have been in charge for 26 years and much regret having to retire, but owing to advancing years I fell that it is time I made way for a younger man. April: At last night’s meeting of house holders, a very good committee was elected one with which the incoming headmaster should be able to work without too much friction. May: Severed connection with the school after 26 years as headmaster. (singed E.L. Ironmonger) June: Received 3 dozen coat and hat hooks. Received e dozen inkwells. September: School half holiday on account of Tasman Flight. October: Took charge of this school. C.C. Southey (Headmaster)
