Our first week back started with conferences to discuss student progress, strengths, any areas ofconcern, as well as support needed to help each haumāna to kūlia. This week we also held an achievement assembly where students were awarded certifi- cates celebrating their eexcellence. Students in grades 6-12 earned a Kūlia Award for a 3.0-3.49 grade point average (GPA) or a Poʻokela Award for a 3.5-4.0 GPA. In grades PK-5, students were selected by their kumu to receive special recognition for demonstrating one of KANU’s behavioral expectations and values consistently throughout quarter one. Welcome back from fall break! We hope everyone is rejuvenated and excited to start quarter two. Our first week back started with conferences to discuss student progress, strengths, any areas ofconcern, as well as support needed to help each haumāna to kūlia. This week we also held an achievement assembly where students were awarded certifi-cates celebrating their eexcellence.

Drive with Aloha! Please slow down while driving through our campus and Kūhio Village. ʻĀLANA GALA – First annual fundraiser-An event with select group of sponsors and their guest. Friday, October 28, 2016 at Merri-man’s restaurant. The Gala will be an intimate event in a nice location that will serve an opportunity to showcase KANU’s excellence while capturing support from our extended community. A few tables are available for sponsorship. ʻOhana may contact your hui reps or kumu to help secure a silent auction item.ʻOHANA SERVICE DAY – Saturday, October 29th, 2016 will be the first of multiple hana days this school year where we hope to come together in mass to holomua. KANU’s Sustanability Committee is hosting a day to clear and transform a large section of un-uti-lized campus into māla. We are in the clearing/preparation stage and are looking for ʻohana willing to kōkua with the process. ʻOhana with trucks, tarps, weed whackers, loppers and/or hand sickles, and leather gloves are needed. We will meet on the lānai of the gym @ 8:30am. Come for as long as you can, any and all kōkua is welcome. Kōkua aku, kōkua mai. Pēlā ka nohona ʻohana. Help others, and accept help. This is the family way.KANU HALLOWEEN COSTUME PARADE – Students may come to school in costume on Monday, October 31st, 2016 for a costume parade that will proceed immediately after morning piko. No weapons or anything representing weapons will be allowed, i.e., swords, knives or guns, etc. Please be sure your child packs a KANU polo shirt and a pair of pants or shorts to change to if their costume gets uncomfortable or is not appropriate for all day wear.

COMMUNITYPRESCHOOL OPEN DOORS (POD) ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS – POD is accepting applications Sept. 19-Oct. 31, 2016. The POD program provides child-care payments to eligible families so their keiki is able to receive a preschool experience prior to entry into kindergarten. Funding is limited. All applications must be received in PATCH Oahu office on or before Oct. 31st to be consid-ered. Families selected from this application period will receive services Jan. 1, 2017 through June 30, 2017. Applications will be accepted for children born Aug. 1, 2011 through July 31, 2012.
