4.CHARACTERISTICS OF A HUMANIST UNIVERSITY
THE HUMANIST UNIVERSITYBased on the book by Luis Olmos (2004),
Crisis at the humanist university. CETYS Publishing
IMPULSE TO HUMANISM PROGRAM.
SPECIFIC CHARACTERISTICS OF THE HUMANIST UNIVERSITIES The search for economic self–sufficiency in order to supply humanist education: proceeds derived from the mission, not profit. The meaning of the humanist university as an institution that seeks a person’s integral and intelectual training . Openness to the presence of what is finite and eternal in social and personal life (sheltered by the religious phenomenon when it comes to strengthen spirituality).
THE HUMANIST UNIVERSITYBased on the book by Luis Olmos (2004),

IMPULSE TO HUMANISM PROGRAM.
The word HUMANIST may be applied to public and private universities, institutes, research centers, and religious universities, as long as they express the before-mentioned characteristics. In fact, the word humanist may even be overrated to a religious school, as well as to universities dedicated to humanism. That is, humanism does not depend on experts or investigators, but in the virtue of helping the human being educate himself.

IMPULSE TO HUMANISM PROGRAM.
To all universities, economic self-sufficiency is essential; this applies to humanist universities as well. The managers must risk all their talent, managing capability and practical sense to provide all this to the academic faculty. Commercialization, based on the constant search for profit without a counterweight that avoids monopolic positions, is unreconcilable with ethics and the social function of an authentic humanist university.

Education itself does not accept the phrase: “give customers what they ask for”. That is, education does not last like merchandise, or an object of consumption. On the other hand, instruction and training, which non-humanist universities deal with, are important goods and services in the market.
Nine identity features of a Humanist university
IMPULSE TO HUMANISM PROGRAM.
1. The idea of the human person.2. The idea of truth3. The idea of liberty of human spirit4. Awareness of others5. Dignity of science 6. Education as spirit bearer 7. Appreciation of art, beauty and words8. The idea of welfare and love 9. Coherence of life.
Features of a university, while not being humanist, it is identified as serious and effective.
IMPULSE TO HUMANISM PROGRAM.
Features of a university, while not being humanist, it is identified as serious and effective.
Scrupulous respect among what one offers to teach and certify and the committment of others to learn.
Justice and equity inside and outside classes. The transparent policies of hiring and compensation. Attention and tutorials to students. Scholarships, financial aid and insurance for students in
need. Pertinent assistance when solving community problems.

4. A person’s whole training: conscience and intellect
5. The humanist university must fulfill two objectives: human training and professional training. 6. Comercialization based on profit is IRRECONCILABLE with ethics and the social function of the Humanist university

8. The humanist university is a model or a permanent aspiration, but not utopia. 9. From secularity, above will be every human’s right to look for and live a religious dimension. 10. When a person is reduced to the noun CLIENT, we are close to converting him in an object or an income funtion. 11. Bad beginnings: humanist training is a matter of ethics or general culture courses.

Respect towards diversity
I like being man, being people, because I know that my course
in the world is not predetermined.
That my “destiny” is not a piece of information but
something that needs to be done and whose responsibility I cannot
escape from. I like being people,
because the story I knit with others, and whose making I
participate in, is a time of possibilities,
not of determinism.
