Hello Ladies,
We are entering that magical time of year with back to back holidays that usually represent large family gatherings and parties of epic proportion.
This also means that some of you may be starting to get a little blue thinking about how far away we are on our little island, but there is always a
silver lining friends. We may not be surrounded by the family we were born into, but that allows us to create a family with the people of our choice.
And for some, that just might be better!
Be sure to get into the spirit of the season by connecting with your fellow military spouses and soldiers. We have a lot of young people on this post
who would be incredibly grateful to have a home cooked, Thanksgiving meal, so ask around and find out who needs a little love and support through
this holiday season, especially if this is their first duty station. Make extra plates for our soldiers who will be on staff duty on Thanksgiving Day,
talk to your neighbors to see if they would like to have a pot luck, invite over single soldiers, or work with your FRG to support our community. It is
the season of giving, and it just feels good to make people happy!
Here are some fun phrases. I dare you to say these without smiling :)
Happy Thanksgiving ~ Hau’oli La Ho’omakika’i (pronounced how-oh-lee la ho-o-ma-key-kah-ee)
Thanksgiving Day ~ La Ho’omaika’i (pronounced la ho-o-my-ka-ee)
Thank you very much ~ Mahalo nui loa (pronounced ma-ha-low new-ee low-a)
Thankful ~ Ho’omakika’i (pronounced ho-o-ma-key-kah-ee)
Celebration ~ Ho’olaule’a (pronounced ho-o-lau-lay-a)
Holiday ~ Lanui (pronounced la-new-ee)
With my love ~ Me ke Aloha (pronounced may kay a-low-ha)
I wish you all a safe and wonderful holiday filled with love and laughter.
Me ke Aloha,
Shawna
Aloha!
The outreach for the month of November is Operation Homefront. Operation Homefront is an or-
ganization whose mission is to support families of service members and wounded warriors. We are
excited to highlight this organization at the luncheon as well as donate for their annual toy drive.
The Holiday Toy Drive has been a program since 2005, this drive benefits junior enlisted and
wounded warrior active duty service members and their families. During the holidays they reach out
to the military families to give support and help with their needs. Let’s join together and make this
month’s outreach a huge success. Please see the list of items they have requested on the Community
Outreach page of this newsletter and on our website at http://www.schofieldspousesclub.com/

Aloha again, Members!
I don’t know about you, but I had such an amazing time at our “Chopped” Luncheon last month! It was super exciting watching y’ all cre-
ate delicious dishes from limited ingredients! We definitely have some culinary aficionados among our membership.
A BIG CONGRATULATIONS to the two winning teams (and the very close runner-up)! You should be very proud of yourselves; this
challenge was not easy!
As we begin to look forward to the Christmas season, I want to encourage you to join us for our annual Make It, Bake It, Fake It
Silent Auction which benefits the Hui ‘O Na Wahine Scholarships and Welfare Program. Our theme this year is “Shop ‘Til You Drop”.
You will be sure to find a number of items that are must-have gifts, and many items that you will want to nab for yourself too!

Broke da Mouth October Excursion
Imagine this: you are sitting at the water’s edge on the windward coast. You have a couple of good peeps and maybe one or two new friends hanging out at your table. The sky is blue, and there are light trade winds to cool you off. You don’t have to be anywhere for hours. Does that sound like a great place to you?
Well, that was the setting of our October excursion for Broke da Mouth. We met for lunch at He’eia Kea Pier General Store and Deli in Kaneohe. This place was also featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.
Guy tried the stir-fried beef and said it was “bustin’ out with flavor.” Two of us had the guava chicken. I had a sandwich while someone else had the plate lunch. The plate lunch was the way to go….two good size pieces of boneless chicken with rice and a salad. The luau stew with pork shoulder is also a local favorite. And Kathy at the counter will help you out with any selection.
The prices were average for the island; the portions are good. There are public bathrooms on site, as well as a small general store. It is an active pier, so you see many tourists getting on and off ferries, either visiting the sand bar or taking a trip around the bay. But truly, other than the company, the highlight of the trip is really the gorgeous views and laid back feeling. One of our gals fell in love with the lilikoi juice. Her only recommendation was to serve with a splash of rum.
We are meeting for brunch at the Cream Pot in November. RSVPs are required.
Remember, friends don’t let friends try new places alone.
They can roll us all out the door together!

The Holiday Toy Drive (“HTD”) program began in 2005, making
this the 10th year of the program. This is a required program for
all Operation Homefront Field Offices.
HTD provides important morale building to our military families
and offsets the service member’s cost of providing holiday toys
for his or her children. This event will benefit the families of
wounded warriors and junior enlisted active duty service
members.
Items needed:
New toys (unwrapped), for children of all ages!
Bring your donations to the November luncheon for an extra
opportunity prize!

To Be (fancy) or Not to Be (fancy)
Recently, I have gone on some theater adventures. One fancy and one not. I will tell you a bit about them and suggest you try
one or both, because it is good to experience new things and see what the area has to offer.
First, for the fancy. I recently attended the opera with a friend. We saw “Madame Butterfly” at the Blaisedale Concert
Hall. It was lovely. I find it interesting and funny that it is an Italian opera about an American sailor and a Japanese lady. You
would think it is a language nightmare but have no fear the dialogue is projected above the stage, in English, so you will have no
problem understanding what is going on. For more Information look up the Hawaii Opera Theatre. Now before your fancy show,
you need to have a fancy meal. Technically a block away, a really long block, is the Stage Restaurant and the Wine Bar inside
Innovations Furniture Store. The food in the restaurant is fantastic, or if you want something smaller the Wine Bar offers a
selection of starters that come from the same kitchen. If you decide to eat in the restaurant, give yourself a lot of time,
because it is a dining experience, not a quick bite.
Now for the not as fancy but also fun. I saw “The Adams Family” at the Manoa Valley theatre. Unfortunately, this show is
finished, but it won't be long before another production starts. It is a community theatre that presents both musicals and
regular plays. There are some good food choices close to the theater. I have tried two so far. First, there is Paesano
Ristorante Italiano. It mat be a bit confusing when you enter because the staff is Asian, but rest assured, the food is Italian
and delicious. Also close by is Serg's Mexican Kitchen. A counter service restaurant in what looks like an old gas station with
plenty of outdoor seating and delicious food.
There is another community theater that I like called the Diamondhead Theatre. If you guessed it is near Diamondhead,
you are right. I have seen a few productions there and they are always great. I will have to get back to you on the food choices
in the area. So, until we talk again go out and have some adventures.

The Chick Flicks October Movie Review
Last month the CFC had its 1st get together seeing, The Best of Me at Ward Stadium 16 in Honolulu. The
evening started great with dinner at Ryan’s Grill which was delicious. I was so looking forward to seeing this
movie since I loved the other Nicholas Sparks movies. I had not read this book, so I didn’t know what to
expect. Boy was I surprised by this one. The Best of Me tells the story of Dawson and Amanda; two former
high school sweethearts who find themselves reunited after 20 years apart. When they return to their small
town for the funeral of a beloved friend.
It starts out as a typical romantic movie with a rich girl and poor boy falling in love. Of course her daddy
doesn’t want them to be together, and he has his own family drama that gets in the wayof their true love.
Everything seems to be going good and you’re rooting for them then BAM,
something bad happens and you’re like really. Then they meet again 20 years
later and he still loves her but she’s moved on and has a family of her own. She
tries to stay away from him, but of course she can’t because he’s hot and she
still loves him. They soon get “together” and everything seems to be great
except for she’s still unhappily married and his family isn’t going to let him be
happy. At this point I was like 20 years is a long time to be apart they should
get a happily ever after but nope instead we get a horrible ending that after
watching for 2 hours you leave mad. If you want to see this movie I would wait
till it’s on Netflix.

Activity Clubs
The Hui offers many activity groups For more information on any of these groups contact:
Wine for Wahines
It is a traveling wine club that meets once a
month for the chance to sample different
wines. Whether they are meeting up in
someone’s home or at a bar, these ladies
always have fun. But it’s not all drinking; we
are going to throw a little education your way.
The goal is to learn about wines and wine
regions, select wines that are budget friendly
but still well made, determine how to pair
wines with different types of cuisine, and
learn
how to grade wines.

interesting. Topics can be serious, but most often
there’s a lot of laughter as we enjoy each other’s
comments.
