POSTER CONTEST

May 16th through July 15th

Eastside Baby Corner, is looking for original children’s art to use on the posters for our 7th Annual Pants

Party, held this year on September 10th.

We invite your kids to submit their designs!

Kids up to age 16 are invited to submit. The winner will receive a

$25 Target gift card & have their art (with their name) on the 400+ posters

displayed throughout the area. About Pants Party:

For many people back to school means pencils and paper, EBC

understands that for a child to be successful in school, having clothes that fit is just as important. EBC fills clothing bundles for nearly 200 kids each week during the school year

(a clothing bundle contains a week’s supply of school-appropriate clothing). As we fill these bundles, we often find

ourselves low on children’s pants. Pants Party is a fun event (that’s

why we call it a ‘fun’raiser)! We ask the local community to donate new or gently-used pants, and we thank

them with food, games, entertainment, giveaways, Hub tours, a raffle for

great prizes and more. More info at babycorner.org.

Working Together for Kids

A recent client letter:

After unexpectedly getting custody of my relative’s 18-month-old son, I needed help finding resources in order for me to be able to care for him. I called Nancy Piombo, the family liaison at Lakeridge Elementary because she has helped my family before on several occasions. Nancy told me she would get in contact with Eastside Baby Corner and by the time I returned home the next day, there were so many items left on my porch. I was speechless … overwhelmed with gratitude, and before I knew it, I was in tears. I just thank God for Nancy and Eastside Baby Corner for helping me and my family. Amir is beyond happy with all of the toys and rocking chair and highchair. It’s hard to pick his favorite because he loves them all. Thank you so much, Demeca

Ever wonder how Eastside Baby Corner gets your donations, and the items we purchase with your financial gifts, to the children who need them? You may not know this, but at EBC we do not give items to children directly. Instead, we work with a group of social service agencies, which we call Provider Partners, who identify families living in poverty or crisis, assess their needs and order from EBC on their behalf. This process allows the front-line workers to use items from EBC as part of an

over all life-betterment plan. Often our partners are able to use items from EBC to ‘get a foot in the door’ and begin working with families who need help but might not ask. We invite you to view the complete process at www.babycorner.org/howebcworks. In the meantime,

we’d like to share this recent letter from a client. It exemplifies the importance of the relationship we have with our

provider partners, as well as the ways we are changing lives by working together for kids.

In this photo: Amir, 18 months old, recently received items from Eastside Baby Corner. His relative, Demeca, reached out to Nancy (pictured above) after Amir came to live with her unexpectedly.

In this photo: Nancy Piombo, on the left, and Erica Parmelee, both with Communities in Schools of Renton, share the reasons they, as Provider Partners love Eastside Baby Corner.

Laptops for Little Ones Collection Drive

HELP YOUR FAVORITE BUSINESS WIN THE TRIPLE CROWN

EBC and Seattle’s Friendly Earth are joining forces once again to host a laptop recycle and reuse drive. Laptops for Little Ones will be held throughout April – Earth Month - because reusing and recycling laptops keeps them out of the landfill – helping kids and the earth at the same time. The 2nd Annual

It’s horse racing season. Whether you’re a die-hard fan or you’re just in it for the hats and mint juleps, chances are you catch at least a little bit of derby fever. It’s that same fever EBC hopes to harness and use to help local kids in need. The Diaper Derby is a fun (but important) race among local business and organizations to collect diapers for children living in poverty or crisis. Not being able to afford enough diapers is a barrier to stability and self-sufficiency for families. Without diapers, babies cannot participate in early childhood education. Without childcare, parents cannot go to work.

Help us help families. This year’s Diaper Derby, the second running, will be held from Friday, May 6th to Friday, June 10th. You can help families, while helping your favorite business win the competition, by bringing your donation of diapers, pull ups and overnights to their place of business throughout the competition. Then track their progress (and scope out the competition) at www.facebook.com/eastsidebabycorner.Don’t forget to get your friends, family and followers in on the fun. Share the excitement on social media using the hash tag #EBCDiaperDerby (and tag @babycorner). Tally ho!

Eastside Baby Corner makes a positive difference in the lives of children and families in need. We do this by collecting and purchasing children’s items and distributing them, free of charge, through local social service agencies. We give families help and hope.
