Overview
The ISI Web of Knowledge Service for UK Education• Integrated platform supporting research and teaching in UK
education institutions• Portal providing:
• simple All Database searching across Web of Science plus additional products that an institution subscribe (Journal Citation Reports not included in All Databases Search)
• access to• Web of Science (now includes Conference Proceedings Citation
Index- Science )• Medline (1950 – present)• plus additional products and external collections / websites
Who hosts the service?
• The ISI Web of Knowledge Service for UK Education is hosted by Thomson Reuters• Thomson Reuters own the databases and the
application • Mimas, The University of Manchester support the
service• JISC funded service
• JISC Collections negotiate and manage the agreement

Phrase searching
To search for an exact phrase enter the phrase in quotation marks.
Example: “stem cell”
Same Terms must occur within the same sentence, where “sentence” is generally a period-delimited string, in any order. In keyword fields, the SAME operator will retrieve records with search terms in the same keyword phrase.

Boolean OperatorsAll search terms must occur to be retrieved.
TOPIC: “stem cell*” AND lymphoma
Retrieves documents that contain the phrase stem cell and the term lymphoma. This is equivalent to searching “stem cell*” lymphoma
Any one of the search terms must occur to be retrieved. Use when searching variants and synonyms.
TOPIC: aspartame OR saccharine OR sweetener*
Retrieves documents that contain at least one of the terms.
Excludes records that contain a given search term.
TOPIC: aids NOT hearing
Retrieves documents with aids, excluding any which also contain hearing.
Linking Options
• OpenURL linking to an institutions electronic resources
• Links to ‘Full Text’– Provides links between ISI Web of Knowledge
resources and electronic full text• Holdings links to OPAC – up to 8 can be enabled
– Links to paper journals– Links through to additional online journals– Alternative route to electronic journals
• Linking options are free (institution required to contact the helpdesk to enable the link option(s)
