Although neither of the teams was placed, they both did very well. One team won a category, winning book prizes for all team members, and both teams were involved in a sudden death play-off for another category. We are all very proud of these students. CARD MAKING CLASS Six enthusiastic students took part this term in a Card Making Class run by Mrs Debbie Airey. This was an extension activity which was held in the library on Monday afternoons. The students were very excited to gain new skills and the results were amazing. For those interested, there is the possibility of another class in Term 4. CONGRATULATIONS

Emily Muli – Year 11 We congratulate Emily Muli (Y11) for being chosen as a finalist in the Songwriter of the Year School Competition. The Schools Competition Grand Final will take place next Saturday 19 June on campus at the Gus Fisher Gallery, 74 Shortland Street, Auckland City. Doors open 6pm, and

the contest commences at 6.30pm. This event is free and all are welcome to attend. Please let me know if you plan to attend so that we can pre-book seats Mike Reilly, father of Piazza, Year 6 We congratulate Piazza’s father, Mike who was honoured in the Queen Birthday List this week. He became a Member of the NZ Order of Merit, for his Services to Baseball.

Fourteen Year 7 & 8 Hebron students will team up with 14 Year 7 & 8 Elim Christian College students to compete in the North Island Intermediate Schools Sports Camp at Totara Springs, Matamata next week. Miss Hart, our Year 8 teacher, will attend the camp with some parents for the week. The students will compete in 16 different sports. Go Hebron/Elim! Non-attending Year 8 students will work in Rooms 10 and 12 during the week. We have decided to change the date for this term’s Primary Parent-Teacher Interviews from Tuesday 29th June to Monday 28th June (the day before) as the annual Auckland Christian Schools Soccer & Netball Field Day occurs on the Tuesday and this will make it very difficult to run the interviews on that day. Booking time slots will be done online from next Friday. Rehearsals for this year’s school musical “Mellow Victoria” are going well. Mr Stafford, Mrs Huston and Mrs Rauch are working hard to produce this home-grown musical production. Our Year 10 students are doing a lot of the behind the scenes work to help stage the musical and they will be gaining NCEA credits for doing this work. Mrs Huston is emailing parents of the cast with instructions for upcoming rehearsals and the videoing arranged for Saturday – if you don’t get her email, ask for a hard copy. Advertisment from Joshua & Rithwick As you would all know, our school is making a wonderful musical production. However, this is going to cost a lot of money so we are looking for businesses or individuals who would be willing to sponsor our school in this production. Your help would be great. Please contact our Music & Drama teacher, Mrs Rauch at [email protected] and tell her about your generous offer.

Blockhouse Bay Intermediate School is organising a 50th Jubilee on 5th-6th November 2010. Past and present students, their families, teachers, staff, PTA, parents, community and board of trustee members are invited to register interest in attending by emailing [email protected] or phoning 09 6266414. Thanks to all those families who have purchased or sold an Entertainment Book. Can all other families endeavour to buy or sell their book this weekend and either return the money or any unsold books to the school foyer early next week. To date families have sold 68 books raising $884 for the school. We still have 66 books unsold/not returned….here’s hoping they will bring in $858! WEEKEND LAUGH - FEEDBACK FROM A PRIMARY TEACHER I've been teaching now for about fifteen years. I have two kids myself, but the best birth story I know is the one I saw in my own Year 2 classroom a few years back. When I was a kid, I loved show-and-tell. So I always have a few sessions with my students. It helps them get over shyness and usually, show-and-tell is pretty tame. Kids bring in pet turtles, model airplanes, pictures of fish they catch, stuff like that. And I never, ever place any boundaries or limitations on them. If they want to lug it in to school and talk about it, they're welcome. Well, one day this little girl, Erica, a very bright, very outgoing kid, takes her turn and waddles up to the front of the class with a pillow stuffed under her sweater. She holds up a snapshot of an infant. 'This is Luke, my baby brother, and I'm going to tell you about his birthday..' 'First, Mom and Dad made him as a symbol of their love, and then Dad put a seed in my Mom's stomach, and Luke grew in there. He ate for nine months through an umbrella cord.' She's standing there with her hands on the pillow, and I'm trying not to laugh and wishing I had my camcorder with me. The kids are watching her in amazement. 'Then, about two Saturdays ago, my Mom starts saying and going, 'Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh!' Erica puts a hand behind her back and groans. 'She walked around the house for, like an hour, 'Oh, oh,oh!' (Now this kid is doing a hysterical duck walk and groaning.) 'My Dad called the middle wife. She delivers babies, but she doesn't have a sign on the car like the Domino's man. They got my Mom to lie down in bed like this' (Then Erica lies down with her back against the wall.) 'And then, pop! My Mom had this bag of water she kept in there in case he got thirsty, and it just blew up and spilled all over the bed, like psshhheew!' (This kid has her legs spread with her little hands miming water flowing away. It was too much!) 'Then the middle wife starts saying 'push, push,' and 'breathe, breathe’. They started counting, but never even got past ten. Then, all of a sudden, out comes my brother. He was covered in yucky stuff that they all said it was from Mom's play-centre, (placenta) so there must be a lot of toys inside there. When he got out, the middle wife spanked him for crawling up in there.' Then Erica stood up, took a big theatrical bow and returned to her seat. I'm sure I applauded the loudest. Ever since then, when it's show-and-tell day, I bring my camcorder, just in case another 'Middle Wife' comes along. WEEKEND CHUCKLE Two identical twin brothers have married two identical twin sisters in a joint wedding ceremony in China. The two couples, from Binhai town, Jiansu, China, look so much alike that members of their own family struggle to tell them apart. Blessings in Christ
