Chantilly Highlands Homes Association Board of Directors Meeting

Thursday, July 7, 2005 Submitted by: Debbie Bowen

Minutes are tentative and will be reviewed and approved at the upcoming Board of Directors meeting.

Board Attendees: Debbie Bowen, Darin Welt, Chris Tacinelli,

Jeff Boehlert, and Jim Ceh. Absent Board Attendees: Mary Kerr, Karen McGreevy, Wendy

Osborn, and Mark Hassinger Home Owner Attendees: One Resident. The Chantilly Highlands Homes Association Meeting was

called to order at 7:38 p.m. by President Jim Ceh. Meeting Minutes: The June Minutes were reviewed and ac-

cepted as written. Architectural Control: Jim Ceh presented the topics of discus-

sion at tonight’s meeting. Mark Hassinger sent a note that he is working on finalizing the walk-thru of neighborhood for September 2005.

There was a basketball hoop complaint. The Board has no au-thority to ask residents to remove Basketball hoops from the streets: only VDOT has that authority . The resident will be contacted and informed of this.

A request was made to take the ACC schedule off the front board of the community center since they do not meet on a scheduled basis.

Long Range Planning: No news to report at this time. Treasurers Report: Chris Tacinelli reported that we collected

100% of homeowners dues. $200,000 to be put into a reserve account next week. Chris

spoke to our attorney and accountant in reference to Swim Team tax ID. The Board requested a monthly update from the swim team. The board agreed to allow the Swim Team to use our tax ID for a year.

Pat Zimmerman requested a file cabinet for the community cen-ter. Will look into budget at end of year. Neighborhood Di-rectory in budget, we will look into it in August.

Community Events: Pool party is set for July 23rd between 9-11pm for the teens. Community Day is continuing to have difficulty in finding anyone interested to help. Planning is still in progress and moving forward on the event. Board dis-cussed and voted on the budget of $3000.00 with sales of $700.00. All were in favor.

Community Facilities: Tennis courts are done and look great. Lock has been repaired. The Funbrella has been repaired and returned. Looking into repairing other two umbrellas at the pool after the season. A new tap water fountain has been in-stalled.

The company that did the parking lot has been contacted to re-strip. There is a three year warranty on the lot. Jeff Boehlert will follow up.

Land Management: Nothing to report at this time. Neighborhood Watch: Nothing to report at this time. Newsletter: Nothing to report at this time. Old Business: Streetlights to be installed on various streets in

neighborhood. Neighbors to be notified by front page of

newsletter. The Board approved project, all were in favor. The Schedule has not yet been published.

Email received by Mr. Wilson requesting the boards position on having speed bumps on Kinross. The board referred him to VDOT. Once he receives the 10 signatures the board will support the VDOT study. And will address the issue then.

Pool- Jim Ceh spoke with Mike and supports the efforts of disci-pline at the pool.

Jim Ceh in agreement of the email Mary Kerr sent in reference to the carwash fundraisers.

New Business: Swim Team put in a request for $1275.00 for new lane dividers and insurance for swimmers. The board agreed on the $540.00 for the new lane dividers.

Recruiting to begin on finding new volunteers for upcoming board positions. If we do not find volunteers we will have to look into outside source to come in.

Adjournment: Jim Ceh made a motion to adjourn the meeting and Darin Welt seconded. The Board approved and the meet-ing adjourned at 8:17p.m.

Your Access to Free Credit Reports Submitted by Elizabeth Grasty

Starting on September 1, 2005 residents of the “Eastern States,” which includes Maine to Virginia, may request a free credit report annually from each of the three credit report bu-reaus: Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. You may obtain your credit report from www.AnnualCreditReport.com. This is a secure, authorized web site. Or, you may mail in the official Request Form. Why is it important to know what is on your credit report? • Verify that the information reported under your name and social security number belongs to you as the consumer. Errors can occur in numerous ways: similar names, former residents at the same address, data entry errors by a reporting merchant business, mix-up between father and son with same or similar names. • In addition there might be fraud on your report: Identity Theft. In this case someone is impersonating you and applying for credit under your name with the intent of obtaining credit and loans. You would not know about these accounts until they become past due and the collector calls you for immediate pay-ment. By this point, your credit rating has been damaged. • You can see what companies are INQUIRING about your credit history. • Check your report for accounts which should be closed – such as old accounts with a zero balance which are still coded as open. Accounts which were joint with a former spouse and are still active. Also check on status of accounts which have you listed as the cosigner or guarantor. What to do if you find incorrect information? • Contact the business in writing, explain the problem, re-quest the account be corrected, and ask that a copy of the cor-rection be sent to all three credit bureaus and to you. • If you are not successful, send a written dispute to each credit bureau: they are obligated to contact the merchant to ver-ify the information. Note: If the merchant says the information is “correct as reported” the account record will not be changed. However, if the merchant does not respond within a specific time period, the information will be deleted. Notes: • Avoid applying for unnecessary credit. Each credit inquiry is noted on your file and too many inquiries can lower your credit score. • Close unused and inactive accounts and be sure they are coded as “Closed by Consumer”.

Your CREDIT SCORE is used to determine whether to grant additional credit and what interest rate you may receive. The higher your score the better. The higher the credit score, the lower the interest rate, and the more favorable the credit terms.

Additional information can be found on other websites, includ-ing the Federal Trade Commission's website at www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/credit/freereports.htm.

Resident Competes for the Miss Teen Northern Virginia Title Submitted by Jerry & David Thatcher

Ashley Lauren Thatcher of Herndon was recently selected to participate in Nationals’ 2005 Miss Teen Northern Virginia pageant competition that will take place on August 7th. Ashley sub-mitted an application and took part in an interview session that was con-ducted by Patty Neidert, this year’s Northern Virginia Pageant Coordinator.

Ashley will be competing for her share of over $20,000 in scholarships, prizes, and specialty gifts that will be dis-tributed to contestants. She will be competing in the Miss Teen division, one of three divisions that will have young ladies between the ages of 10 and 19 competing in mod-eling routines which include casual wear and formal wear. Most important, Ashley will display her personal-ity and interviewing skills while interviewing with this year’s Northern Virginia judging panel. Personality is the number one aspect on which each contestant is judged during all phases of the competition.

If Ashley were to win the title of Miss Teen Northern Virginia, she would represent Northern Virginia and the surrounding communities at the Cities of America Na-tional Competition that will take place in Orlando, FL. Over $60,000 in prizes and awards will be presented at the National Competition while each winner enjoys this expense paid trip of five nights and six days in Orlando.

There is no cost to Ashley for participating in the pageant competition. Community businesses, organizations, and private individuals will assist her in participating in this year’s competition by becoming an official sponsor. Through sponsorship, each contestant receives all the necessary training, rehearsals, and financial support which will allow Ashley to become a very confident and well-prepared contestant in this year’s Northern Virginia pageant.

Any business, organization, or private individual who may be interested in becoming a sponsor to Ashley may contact her pageant coordinator, Patty Neidert at 1-800-569-2487.

EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS With hurricane season upon us, and the memory of the recent London terrorist attack fresh on our minds, here are some re-minders to make sure your family is prepared for unexpected situations: Have enough to last one week of: non-perishable food;

bottled water (one gallon per person per day); hand-operated can opener; flashlights; extra batteries for flash-lights, hearing aids, medical devices, radios; battery-operated radio or television; prescription and non-prescription drugs; first aid kit; personal hygiene items like soap and toothpaste; blankets and appropriate clothing; special items for infants, elderly, or disabled members of your family; pet supplies. Routinely check for expirations on food and medicines.

Make sure your car’s gas tank is full when you have fore-warning of a possible emergency.

Have extra cash on hand. Make a list of key phone numbers, including emergency

numbers. Additional information and more in-depth plans can be found at

numerous websites, including Fairfax County’s at www.fairfaxcounty.gov/emergency/emergencyprep.pdf

and the Virginia Department of Emergency Management at www.vdem.state.va.us.
