HSC 2017
Music Students Record for
ENCORE
During the past couple of weeks, Roman Anderson, Christopher Bass and
Phoebe Evans have been rehearsing and recording their 2017 HSC Music
Performance Programs. They have now sent these recordings to NESA. These three
students were nominated for ENCORE as a result of their outstanding HSC music
performances held in September this year.
HSC markers nominate outstanding music students’ performances, compositions,
essays and musicology viva voces for selection into ENCORE from the Music 1,
Music 2 and Music Extension courses. ENCORE is a concert of performances and
compositions, held at the Opera House in February 2018. We have applied for tickets
to attend the concert. Tickets sales are in high demand and usually sell out in a day!
To have three students nominated is thrilling for the College. We now await
notification of their acceptance into this single concert program of 20 program items.
There were 5574 HSC music students throughout the state in 2017.
Congratulations to
Roman, Christopher and Phoebe
on this outstanding achievement.

ATSI/EALD Orientation
On 11 October we invited our Year 11 2018 ATSI and
EALD students to the College to participate in an
Orientation morning. On arrival, the students were
presented with some important information to assist in
their smooth transition into the College.
They had the opportunity to talk with and ask questions
of our Year 12 2018 students who only a short three
terms ago were in their position. To assist in
familiarising themselves with the layout and structure of
the College they broke into small groups and
participated in a walk around questionnaire. The most
successful group was awarded a small prize for the most
correct answers.
A relaxed morning tea and the opportunity again to ask
questions and get to know some of our current students
followed.
Thank you to our students who assisted and we look
forward to welcoming our Year 11 2018 ATSI and
EALD students on 30th January 2018.

Spring Food Appeal
The SVDP Society would like to thank all of the staff,
students and families who brought in food donations for
our Spring Food Appeal in the last couple of weeks. On
Tuesday, 31 October, we sorted and packed the
donations into boxes for delivery and we were
overwhelmed by the generosity of our community.
Thank you so much for your kindness; these donations
are very much appreciated. They have been delivered to
Sr Carmel Hanson’s House of Hospitality at
Broadmeadow and to the Merewether Beach SVDP
Food Bank. They will help to support disadvantaged
individuals within our community.
We hope that this generosity will continue for our
Christmas Food Appeal!

Christmas Appeal
With just over a month to go to Christmas, the College
St Vincent De Paul Society is asking for your help! We
ask that you generously donate an unwrapped gift
suitable for children (up to 15 years old) in needy
families. Gift ideas could include: books, games,
movies and toys. As well, you may purchase a candy
cane with your own message to be delivered to someone
special on Monday, 4 December, by our members.
These will be on sale near the Canteen during the breaks
on the preceding Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Friday, 1 December, is SFX Day, celebrating the feast-
day of St Francis Xavier. This will be an out-of-uniform
day, so please bring a gold coin donation and celebrate
the occasion in your best Christmas-themed outfit.
There will be a fashion parade during the first lunch
break. All profits from the day and the presents will be
donated to the Hamilton parish St Vincent de Paul
society conference which gives Christmas hampers and
presents to about 40 needy families in our area each
year.
On behalf of the Colleges St Vincent De Paul Society
we wish you a very Merry Christmas.

Merewether – Hamilton RSL
Sub Branch Remembrance Day Service
On Saturday, 11 November three of our student
leaders Thomas Rodgers, Joachim Angeli, and
Damon Reid took part in the Merewether –
Hamilton RSL Sub Branch Remembrance Day
Service at Gregson Park.
Tom read a Wilfred Owen poem
‘Anthem for Doomed Youth’.
Joe and Damon laid a Wreath of Tribute.
The Solidarity Leaders, along with student
leaders from St Clare’s Taree, St Joseph’s
Aberdeen, St Catherine’s Singleton, St Mary’s
Maitland and St Paul’s Booragul attended the
Diocesan Leadership Retreat at Riverwood
Downs in the Barrington Tops.
We completed a number of leadership
challenge activities, learnt about some of the
roles and responsibilities of leaders and had
time with our small group to develop some
ideas about how we can lead SFX in the area
of Solidarity.
It was a fantastic few days in a beautiful setting and we hope that we can use the
experience to be the best leaders we can be for our school in 2018.

Windale
Christmas
Appeal
Every week students from SFX go to St Pius, Windale to work with the staff in the classrooms assisting with
anything from Maths to Sport and we have developed a wonder bond with this school.
As a community, we also help them celebrate Christmas by donating toys and gifts every year. Last year the
generosity of the SFX community was overwhelming and I would like to think we will repeat that this year.
The Windale kids are fantastic and full of life, who generally come from disadvantaged homes where
Christmas is either non-existent or limited. Windale is only 11 kms from our school…let’s start giving to
families at our “back door”.
All wonderful donations can be taken to Mrs McLoughlin’s Careers Office.
