Incumbents assess patient status; implement interventions to modify symptoms; and develop, implement, and evaluate patient care plans to enhance and improve outcomes. Reporting and Supervisory Responsibilities The Nurse Practitioner reports to a Director. This classification may guide and train nursing and support staff. Typical Functions 1. Coordinates the daily operations of a health care clinic. 2. Provides general assessment, evaluation, treatment, and referral for physical and mental health patients. 3. Prescribes medications. 4. Obtains history of present illness utilizing assessment by medical assistant and interview skills. 5. Reviews past medical history as appropriate. 6. Develops differential diagnosis and evaluation plan. 7. Orders and interprets clinical laboratory data in an accurate and cost-effective manner. 8. Develops final diagnosis and treatment plan appropriate to problem. 9. Educates patient about diagnosis; answers questions in a professional and courteous way. 10. Provides medical follow-up/monitoring services for patients. 11. May train and guide nursing and support staff. 1

5. Knowledge of patient evaluation and triage procedures.6. Skilled in performing medical and clinical procedures.7. Ability to educate patients as to the nature of disease and to provide instruction on proper care

issues.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in nursing and licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the State of Utah is required.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes. This position requires moderate physical activity, including the handling of heavy weight objects up to 50 pounds and/or standing or walking more than four hours per day. The work environment may involve exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following safety precautions.
