Teachers Pay (2013 changes)

• All pay progression to be based on performance• Main, Upper, Leading Practitioner and Unqualified

Teacher ranges – removed the scales and replaced them with a minima and maxima for each

• For governing bodies to determine any progression points between the minima and maxima and how progression works in their school’s

• Impacts on pay progression from September 2014

Priorities for of the GB (2013) Reporting

• The headteacher should provide information to the governing body about the quality of teaching and appraisal outcomes.

• If teaching is not good, the GB needs to know and to assure itself that actions are being taken to improve this in order to fulfil its duty.

Priorities for the GB (2013) – Appeals against non-progression

• The pay policy must include an appeals procedure• All teaching staff must be made aware of the procedure

• Pay progression purely on the basis of performance means that appeals are more likely

• Governors must be appropriately prepared to hear appeals before any appeals are lodged.

Main changes to the STPCD 2014

– A simple framework for setting pay for leadership positions: a) Assign school Groupb) Determine leadership pay range (based on responsibilities, challenges and all other relevant considerations). Maximum pay offer = school group plus 25%. c) Assess the preferred candidate to finalise salary determination

– Simplified leadership pay arrangements:a) Complex rules on starting salaries removedb) Differentials within leadership team removedc) Removal of pay points
