  • 10 About this guide

  • 1 Preparation

This chapter describes the contents of the software CDs and downloads and explains the prerequisites for installing HP Replication Solutions Manager.

Kit or download contents When you obtain HP Replication Solutions Manager (you can order the software in a kit or download it free from the Web), you receive the following:

Server software Host agent software HP JREserver RSM integrator

HP Replication Solutions Manager server software HP Replication Solutions Manager (the replication manager) is a graphical and command line user interface for managing replication on HP storage arrays. See HP StorageWorks Replication Solutions Manager administrator guide for a description of the software features.

HP Replication Solutions Manager host agent software The replication manager host agent software is installed on a supported host server. The host agent software facilitates communication between the management server and the host server. There is no user interface associated with the host agent software.

When you install the host agent software, you also install the HP Replication Solutions Manager CLUI client. The CLUI client is a command line utility that enables you to run replication manager commands from the host server.

The host agent software CD also contains HP DButil. HP DButil is a command line utility that facilitates application-consistent replication of Microsoft SQL Server 2000 databases. You can install HP DButil on Windows host servers only.

HP JREserver A supported JRE is required to browse to the replication manager. See HP StorageWorks JREserver installation instructions for more information.

HP Replication Solutions Manager integrator Install the HP Replication Solutions Manager integrator on the management server to register the replication manager with Systems Insight Manager or System Management Homepage. When you install this integrator, it creates a link on either Systems Insight Manager or System Management Homepage to monitor the management server.

HP StorageWorks Replication Solutions Manager installation guide 11

  • Downloading the software To download the software free from the Web:

    1. Go to the HP StorageWorks Continuous Access EVA web site: (You can use this site whether you use HP Continuous Access EVA or not.)

    http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/storage/software/conaccesseva/index.html

    2. Click Software & drivers.

    3. Download the replication manager server software. Only one download is required.

    4. If you have Windows hosts, download the replication manager host agent software for Windows. Only one download is required.

    5. If you have UNIX or Linux hosts, download the replication manager host agent software for UNIX/Linux. Only one download is required.

Simulation mode You can perform any replication manager function in simulation mode that you can perform in a production environment, with the following restrictions:

Only the Windows host agent is simulated. Other host platforms are not available for simulation. The simulated host volumes can have only one virtual disk under them. In a production

environment, a host volume can comprise multiple virtual disks.

Simulation mode enables you to use all replication manager features without using production data and resources. This functionality is built into the replication manager and does not require separate installation or activation.

If you plan to use simulation mode, HP recommends that you:

Install the replication manager on a Windows server that: Does not have HP Command View EVA installed on it. Is running a supported version of Windows and has sufficient space for the installation. See

HP StorageWorks EVA software compatibility reference for details. Not install the host agent software.

For information about using simulation mode, see HP StorageWorks Replication Solutions Manager simulation guide.

Prerequisites Before you install the software:

Read HP StorageWorks EVA replication software consolidated release notes for any installation or post-installation requirements specific to this release.

Ensure that your environment includes: One or more Enterprise Virtual Arrays A management server running a supported version of Microsoft Windows (for more

information, see HP StorageWorks EVA software compatibility reference) A host server that contains sufficient space and is running a supported operating system (for

more information, see HP StorageWorks EVA software compatibility reference) Ensure that the management server and host servers are connected to the same local area network. Ensure that the management server is not a domain controller. You can install the software on a

management server that is on a domain, but not on a management server that is the domain controller.

  • Before you upgrade the software, ensure that the required minimum versions of HP Replication Solutions Manager server software, HP Replication Solutions Manager host agent software, and HP Command View EVA are installed. See HP StorageWorks EVA replication software consolidated release notes and HP StorageWorks Command View EVA release notes for the minimum required versions.

After installing the software, the following licenses are required to use replication and application features:

HP Business Copy EVA (snapshots, snapclones, and mirrorclones) HP Continuous Access EVA (data replication) Oracle

You must have sufficient licenses for the capacity of each array where snapshots, snapclones, and mirrorclones will be made or that will be the source or destination of replicated data. See the QuickSpecs for HP Business Copy EVA and HP Continuous Access EVA for more information.

Management server types You can install the server software on the following servers:

HP OpenView Storage Management Appliance (SMA)A centralized, dedicated monitoring and management hardware-software solution for the storage area network.

NOTE: If the SMA is running HP OpenView Storage Area Manager, the SMA is considered a dedicated management server and HP Replication Solutions Manager will not be accessible from the SMA's web interface. HP Replication Solutions Manager is accessible only from the desktop icon or the Start menu.

General-purpose serverA server other than the HP OpenView Storage Management Appliance that runs customer applications, such as file and print services.

Dedicated management serverA Windows host that is intended solely for HP storage software, such as HP OpenView Storage Node Manager, HP OpenView Storage Area Manager add-on software modules, or HP StorageWorks EVA software.

HP ProLiant storage serverA server similar to the general-purpose server; it can be used for managing EVAs in the SAN as well as traditional NAS-based applications.

For hardware and software specifications, see the HP EVA software compatibility reference.

Installation requirements Before installing the software, you must:

Install HP Command View EVA on the management server. Ensure the appropriate groups and users are created on the management server. See "Setting

credentials" on page 14 for more information.

Installation tips When installing over a network, use one of the following methods to install (and remove) the

software: For Windows, use Terminal Services and Add/Remove Programs. Ensure that Terminal

Services is configured for administrator mode. For UNIX hosts, use Telnet in a secure environment; otherwise, use Secure Shell (SSH) client.

NOTE: Telnet is not supported on Windows.

HP StorageWorks Replication Solutions Manager installation guide 13

  • Install the software on the SMA using the setup files and Add/Remove Programs, not the SMA software interface.

Immediately install the HP JREserver to facilitate obtaining the preferred JRE for browsing to the replication manager. A supported JRE is required on the browsing client. For supported JRE versions, see HP StorageWorks EVA software compatibility reference. For installation instructions, see HP StorageWorks JREserver installation instructions.

In remote replication configurations, HP recommends installing the server software on the same management server type at the local and remote sites.

If the files that exist on the management server or host server are newer than the software installation files, HP recommends that you do not replace these files.

Setting credentials Setting credentials requires that local or domain groups are created on the servers where you will install the replication manager server software and host software. Each group must contain at least one user. You must set credentials so the replication manager can:

Authenticate users with the operating system Assign default privileges based on the operating system groups to which users belong Authenticate application integration

NOTE: In this section, unless a specific reference is made to the HP Storage Users group, user refers to all people who can access the software.

Management server The management server credentials are created during the HP Command View EVA installation process. The manual procedure for creating the credentials is listed in this section for ease of reference.

To set credentials on the management server:

    1. Use the Windows operating system feature to create the following groups: HP Storage Admins HP Storage Users

IMPORTANT: You must specify the group names exactly as described in this step; otherwise the replication manager will be unable to authorize these groups when you log in to the replication manager. See your Windows documentation for instructions about creating groups.

These groups have default privileges assigned to them. Anyone in the HP Storage Admins group can view and perform all tasks. Anyone in the HP Storage Users group can only view information.

    2. Create users and assign them to these groups. Enter a name and password for the user and select a group for the user.

    14 Preparation

  • Ensuring successful authorization After creating these groups, complete the following steps:

    1. Access the Local Security Policy feature on the Windows operating system.

The Local Security Settings window opens.

    2. Select Security Settings > Local Policies > User Rights Assignment.

    3. Double-click the Access this computer from the network policy in the right Content pane.

    4. Click Add User or Group.

    5. Add the users you have created to this permission. See your operating system-specific documentation for further instructions.

NOTE: If you are installing the replication manager on a Windows XP server (for simulation mode only), see your Windows XP documentation for instructions about setting this policy.

Host server Setting credentials on the host server is optional. During the installation process, you will be prompted about host-enabled authentication. If you choose to set credentials prior to the installation, it is at this prompt in the installation process that you are enabling this feature.

To set credentials on a supported host server:

    1. Use the operating system feature to create the appropriate group:

HP Host Agent Admins (supported Windows host) hphaadm (all other supported hosts)

IMPORTANT: You must specify the group name exactly as shown in this step; otherwise, authentication will fail. See your operating system documentation for instructions about creating groups.

    2. Create users and assign them to a group (only one user is required for authentication). Enter a name and password for the user and select a group for the user. See your operating system documentation for instructions about creating users.

NOTE: On SLES (Linux) hosts, root cannot be a member of the hphaadm group. You must create a user other than root and assign it to the hphaadm group.

    3. Enter the user's account credentials in the HP Replication Solutions Manager graphical user interface:

    a. In the Navigation pane, select Enabled Hosts.

    b. From the List view in the Content pane, select the enabled host for which you want to set credentials.

    c. In the Content pane, select Actions > Set Credentials.

The Set Credentials for Enabled Host window opens.

    d. Enter the user name and password for the account created in Step 2.

    e. Click OK.

HP StorageWorks Replication Solutions Manager installation guide 15

  • Oracle account If you plan to use Oracle replication features, an Oracle database administrator must create an account for HP Replication Solutions Manager on each Oracle database.

NOTE: The Oracle features require a license.

The process for using Oracle on the replication manager follows:

    1. The Oracle database administrator creates the HP Replication Solutions Manager account on the Oracle databases.

    2. Install the HP Replication Solutions Manager server software.

    3. Complete the initial setup and configuration of the replication manager.

    4. Perform a discovery (global) to discover all known Oracle databases.

    5. Select a database and select Set Credentials. Enter the user name and password of the account created in Step 1.

Repeat this step for each database.

    6. Perform a global refresh.

    16 Preparation

  • 2 Server software

This chapter describes how to install and remove the server software.

Installing the server software The default installation directory is C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\; however, you can install the server software in another directory.

NOTE: If you specify an alternate installation directory, the installation software will not detect the previous installation and will allow the software to be installed again. This will not prevent the server software from working, but you will not know which instance of the server software is running.

    To install the server software:

    1. Close all applications that are on or open to the management server.

    2. Perform one of the following: Insert the installation CD into the drive. Download the software from the following web site:

    http://www.hp.com/support/downloads

    3. Browse to the installation CD or the directory where you downloaded the software.

    4. Double-click setupWin32.exe to start the installation.

The InstallShield Wizard Welcome window opens.

    5. Click Next.

    The license agreement window opens.

    6. Read and accept the terms of the license agreement, and then click Next.

Upgrade and reinstallation tips When upgrading or reinstalling the server software, consider the following:

Ensure that all jobs have completed before upgrading the software. If prompted during the upgrade process, reboot the management server. The current software will discover which version is installed, and you will see a blue bar indicating

that the software is being installed. If you cancelled the database migration during an upgrade, you are prompted to restart the

services. After upgrading the server software, the events of the previous version will not be available

    in the current version.

Upgrading a Storage Area Manager management server If you are upgrading the server software on a management server that is currently running Storage Area Manager, complete the following steps to ensure a successful upgrade:

    1. Remove the host agent software:

NOTE: The following steps (af) are identical for all supported operating systems except for selecting the desired package. HP recommends removing the host agent software from the host before removing the Storage Area Manager Host Agent.

    a. From the management server, open the Storage Area Manager interface.

    b. Select Tools > Manage Host Agent > Install/Modify Host Agent Software.

    c. Right-click on the host, and select Modify Host Packages Selection.

A list of the available packages appears.

    d. Under Action to Take for Replication Solutions Manager Host Agent, select Uninstall.

    e. Click OK.

    f. Select Host, and then select Install/Modify Selected Host.

After removing the host agent software, the following Windows and UNIX subdirectories are not removed:

    C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\sanmgr\hostagent /opt/sanmgr/hostagent /etc/opt/sanmgr/hostagent /var/opt/sanmgr/hostagent

    18 Server software

  • The files in these directories were modified using Storage Area Manager. Do not remove these directories if you think you will use the host to link to previous jobs and logs.

    2. Back up the replication database using the Export feature.

For instructions, see HP StorageWorks Replication Solutions Manager administrator guide.

    3. Remove the server software from the management server.

For instructions, see "Removing the server software" on page 19.

    4. Install the new server software on the management server.

For instructions, see "Installing the server software" on page 17.

    5. Restore the replication database using the Import feature.

For instructions, see HP StorageWorks Replication Solutions Manager administrator guide.

Verifying the installation To verify that the software was installed successfully, ensure that:

The software icon appears on the desktop. The software is available from the Start menu (Start > Programs > Hewlett-Packard > HP

Replication Solutions Manager). HP Replication Solutions Manager is listed in Add/Remove Programs.

If you experience any issues, see "Troubleshooting" on page 25, and then repeat the installation.

If you require the product code for the replication manager (for example, to include the product code in

scripts that track installed applications), open Registry Editor and go to the following directory:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Uninstall

The product code is b6f613d678bfa387048dae940c9d2fe and is appended with eight hexadecimal characters. These characters are generated based on the directory in which the server software is installed.

Removing the server software When removing the server software, consider the following:

To prevent data loss, allow all replication jobs to run to completion, or disable scheduled jobs before removing the software.

Removing the software over a network without remote connection software is not supported and could cause errors.

You cannot use the SMA software interface to remove the software. Remove the software from the SMA using Windows Add/Remove Programs only.

Close all applications and windows on or open to the management server.

Use Windows Add/Remove Programs to remove the software. You can remove the server software remotely (using remote connection software) or locally. When removing the server software remotely, use Terminal Services to access the management server and log in. The InstallShield Wizard indicates if a reboot is necessary after software removal.

  • 3 Host agent software

This chapter describes how to install and remove the host agent software. An installation is required on every host that interacts with the replication manager.

Operating system requirements This section describes the operating system-specific requirements for installing the replication manager host agent.

HP OpenVMS on Alpha servers The following SNIA libraries are required on the HP OpenVMS (Alpha) host to ensure that the host agent software works properly: HBA_VMS.EXE LIBHBAAPI.EXE

These SNIA libraries are included on the host agent software CD. Compare the versions of the libraries on the CD against those listed in SYS$LIBRARY. If the versions on the CD are newer, copy the SNIA libraries from the CD to SYS$LIBRARY, and then restart the host agent.

HP OpenVMS on Integrity servers The following patches are required on the HP OpenVMS (Integrity) host to ensure the host agent software works properly: HP I64VMS VMS821I_UPDATE V3.0 HP I64VMS VMS821I_SYS V3.0 HP I64VMS VMS821I_PCSI V1.0 HP I64VMS VMS821I_FIBRE_SCSI V2.0 HP I64VMS VMS821I_ICXXL V1.0

You can download these patches from the following web site:

    http://www.itrc.hp.com

HP Tru64 UNIX CXX 7.1 runtime libraries must be installed on the HP Tru64 UNIX host. Download the libraries from the following link:

    ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/products/C-CXX/tru64/cxx/CXXREDIST710.tar

You can install the libraries before or after installing the replication host agent, but they must be installed before you start the replication manager.

Linux Before installing the replication manager host agent on a Linux host, ensure that you have:

Installed the QLogic failover driver. Disabled LDAP authentication. See your Linux documentation for more information.

  • Sun Solaris Ensure that you install the appropriate SNIA libraries on the Solaris host; otherwise, incorrect HBA information is reported in the replication manager HBA/ports tab of the Enabled Host properties window. This condition does not affect HBA operation, only the information reported to the replication manager.

The following SNIA libraries are required:

For JNI and Sun native HBAs, install the JNI SNIA Fibre Channel HBA library. The package name is JNIsnia.

For QLogic HBAs, install the QLogic SDM library. The package name is QLSDMLIB.

The SNIA libraries are included with HP Secure Path for Sun Solaris, but are not installed by default. You can install the SNIA libraries before or after installing the replication manager host agent.

Conflict between cfgadm utility and SNIA libraries There is a conflict between the cfgadm utility and the SNIA libraries that are distributed with HP Secure Path 3.0d on Solaris 10, which prevents the Solaris 10 host from working properly.

To resolve this conflict, install the 119974 patch on the Solaris 10 host before installing the SNIA libraries.

Windows Before installing the host agent software on a Windows host, you must:

Have system administrator authority on the server on which you want to install the host agent software.

Remove version 1.0 before installing the current version (if applicable). Install the appropriate SNIA libraries for Windows. Go to the Fibre Channel Host Bus

Adapters section on the following web site and download the software for your HBA: http://h18006.www1.hp.com/storage/saninfrastructure.com.

  • 4 Troubleshooting

This chapter describes known problems and suggested resolutions for troubleshooting the software installation.

Insufficient space in the temporary directory When you install HP Replication Solutions Manager, the contents of the .jar file are extracted to a temporary directory. If there is insufficient space in the directory, an error message may appear. If you do not know whether the temporary directory has sufficient space to complete the installation, you can specify an alternate directory:

    1. Open a command window.

    2. Enter the following command:

    -is:tempdir

The value directory is the name of the alternate directory (for example, -is:tempdir C:\My Documents\temp).

Port already in use During the server software installation, if you select a port that is already in use, the ReplicationDB service will not start, and the following error message appears when you start the software:

The system database rejected the configured userid or password.

You must remove and then reinstall the server software. When prompted during the installation to enter a port, be sure to specify a different port.

NOTE: On a Windows 2000 server, a reboot is usually required after removal. If you are prompted to reboot, do so before reinstalling the software; otherwise, the ReplServer service is deleted the next time you reboot the server.

User interface does not open The user interface does not open after starting the software. This can occur if Terminal Services is not configured for administrator mode.

Using Add/Remove Programs, remove the software from the management server and install the software again. See "Installing the software" on page 17 for instructions.

No login server error message This error message may appear due to an invalid or unavailable server IP address.

Verify the server IP address in your browser. Verify that the services are running on the management server.

  • Glossary

This glossary defines terms that are used in this guide or are related to the software.

array See storage system and virtual array.

client An intelligent device that requests services from other intelligent devices. In the context of HP Replication Solutions Manager, a client is a computer used to access the software remotely using a supported browser.

Data replication A logical group of virtual disks in a remote replication relationship with a (DR) group corresponding group on another array.

enabled host A host that is equipped with a replication host agent.

Enterprise Virtual An HP StorageWorks disk array product that allows pooled disk capacity to be Array (EVA) presented to hosts as one or more variably sized physical devices. An EVA

consists of disks, controllers, cables, power supplies, and controller software. Storage system, virtual array, and storage array are other names for an EVA. See also virtual disk.

failover An operation that reverses replication direction so that the destination becomes the source and the source becomes the destination. Failovers can be planned or unplanned and can occur between DR groups, managed sets, fabrics or paths, and array controllers.

general-purpose A server that runs customer applications such as file and print services. HP server Command View EVA and HP Replication Solutions Manager can be used on

a general-purpose server in limited configurations.

host A computer that runs user applications and uses (or potentially uses) one or more virtual disks that are created and presented by the array controller.

job A repeatable custom script that automates replication tasks. A job can be simple (for example, create a DR group) or complex (for example, perform cascaded replication). Jobs can be run from the GUI, from the command line, from batch files, or by a scheduler.

management A server where HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array (EVA) management server software is installed, including HP Command View EVA and HP Replication

Solutions Manager, if used. A dedicated management server runs EVA management software exclusively. Other management servers are general purpose servers, HP ProLiant Storage Server (NAS) models, and the Storage Management Appliance. When there are multiple management servers in a SAN, two active instances of HP Command View EVA are allowed, but each array will only be managed by one instance. The active management server actively manages the array, while the standby management server takes control of the array if there is a failure on the active management server. There is only one active management server at a time for any given management zone in a SAN.

Storage Manage- HP OpenView Storage Management Appliance, an HP hardware-software ment Appliance product designed to run SAN management applications such as HP Command (SMA) View EVA and HP Replication Solutions Manager.
