HP Series control valves (figure 1) are single-port,high-pressure, globe- or angle-style valves with metalseats, cage guides, and push-down-to-close valveplug action.
These valves are designed for high-pressureapplications in process control industries such aspower generation, hydrocarbon production, chemicalprocessing, and refining.
HP Series valves are designed with corrosionallowance; NACE approved materials are available.Extra valve body wall thickness provides a safetymargin of protection against erosion, as well as extraprotection against corrosion due to chemical attack.Because these valves feature a thicker valve bodywall, they are available in higher intermediate ratingswith weld-end fittings.

Balanced High-Temperature Trim
HPD and HPAD
These valves use a balanced valve plug and are wellsuited for general applications with processtemperatures in excess of 232C, where extremelytight shutoff is not required.
Balanced Tight Shutoff Trim
HPT and HPAT
These valves use a balanced valve plug and offerexcellent shutoff with process temperatures below232C. The temperature limits of Design HPT can beextended above 232C to 316C by using PEEK(PolyEtherEtherKetone) anti-extrusion rings incombination with a spring-loaded PTFE seal. ThePEEK anti-extrusion rings expand to close off theclearance gaps on the plug outside diameter and thecage inside diameter where the PTFE seal mayextrude at high temperatures and pressures.
Unbalanced Trim
HPS and HPAS
These valves have an unbalanced plug and provideexcellent shutoff.
Expanded EndsExpanded ends are available on the 4- and 6-inchClass 900 and 1500 HP valves. The 4-inch HP valvebody is offered with 6-inch ends. The 6-inch valvebody is offered with 8-inch ends. Both flanged andbuttweld end valve bodies are offered with expandedends.
Cavitrol, Whisper Trim, andWhisperFlo CagesTo eliminate cavitation damage in a properly-sizedvalve, a Cavitrol III cage is available with Design HPS,HPAS, HPT, and HPAT control valves.
To help attenuate aerodynamic noise in gaseousservice, Whisper Trim III cages are available withDesign HPD, HPAD, HPS, HPAS, HPT, and HPATcontrol valves.
WhisperFlo cages (figure 2) are also available toattenuate aerodynamic noise in gaseous service.Contact your Fisher sales office for more information.

Features
Valve Plug Stability—Rugged cage guidingprovides increased valve plug stability, which reducesvibration and other mechanical stresses, contributingto longer trim life.
Full Pressure Drop Capability—Rugged DesignHP and HPA valves have readily available trimscapable of attaining full pressure drops.
Spiral-Wound Gaskets for Excellent SealingUnder All Service Conditions—Premium materialsare used in the construction of spiral-wound gasketsfor HP Series valves. These premium materials, whichmake up the standard spiral-wound gaskets, areN06600 (Inconel 600)/graphite or N07750 (InconelX750)/graphite.
Compliance with the Clean Air Act—OptionalENVIRO-SEAL packing systems (figure 4) provide asuperior stem seal to prevent the loss of valuable orhazardous process fluid. The ENVIRO-SEAL packingsystems feature PTFE, graphite, or duplex packingwith live-loading for reduced packing maintenance.
Piping Economy—The availability of expandedend connections on 4- and 6-inch Design HP valvesmay eliminate the need for line swages whileaccommodating oversized piping arrangements.
Quick Change Trim—Maintenance is simple andcan easily be performed using common tools. Trim
components can be quickly removed and changedwith no need for special tools.
Standard Hard Trim Materials—The cage, valveplug, and other trim parts are manufactured fromhardened materials. This standard feature providesexcellent wear resistance.
Control of Low Flow Rates/TightShut-off—Micro-Flute and Micro-Form valve plugs(figures 7 and 8, respectively) provide superbrangeability in high-pressure, low-flow applications. Achoice of several restricted port diameters helps matchvalve body capacity to required flow, assuresnecessary control with full travel, and helps preventthrottling near the seat.
In low-flow applications where cavitation damage mayoccur, the Micro-Flat valve plug can be used with aspecial Cavitrol III cage. Contact your Fisher salesoffice for more information.
Increased Pressure/TemperatureRatings—Design HP Series valves with weld-endfittings have increased pressure/temperature ratings, called intermediate ratings, as defined in ASMEB16.34. The extra strength of these valves allowsratings higher than the standard Class 900 or 1500ratings specified in B16.34.
See PS Sheet 59.1:026(B), Intermediate Ratings forDesign HP and HPA Class 1500 All Sizes, for furtherinformation.
Trim Interchangeability—Cavitrol III andWhisper Trim III trims (figures 9 and 10, respectively)are interchangeable with standard trims.
Smooth Control at High PressureDrops—Available on 2 through 6-inch valves, balanced trim provides smooth control at highpressure drops.
High-Temperature Capability with Class VShutoff—Use of C-seal trim (see figure 5) permitsClass V shutoff up to 593C (1100F) for Design HPDvalves.
Sour Gas Trims Available—Long-lasting,erosion- and corrosion-resistant trims are available forcontrol of sour gas. These trims are offered with eithera standard cage, a Cavitrol III cage, or a Whisper TrimIII cage. Spiral-wound gasket construction is standard.

Material Selection Guidelines
Use the following steps as a guideline for the selectionof materials:
1. Determine the pressure/temperature rating of thevalve body size and material required. Inlet pressure
and temperature must always be limited by theapplicable ASME pressure/temperature rating.
2. Select the desired trim style from the AvailableConfigurations specification and from table 4, ShutoffClassifications.
3. Select desired materials from tables 7, 8, 11, and 12and figure 13. The temperature capabilities determinedfrom figure 13 may be further limited by thetemperature capabilities of materials selected fromtables 7 and 12. Refer to figure 13 to determinepressure drop limits of the valve body-trimcombinations selected.
4. Select the appropriate spiral-wound gasket material.N06600 is recommended for service up to 427C(800F). N07750 is recommended for service over427C (800F) when improved corrosion resistance isrequired or when the valve is subject to severetemperature cycling service.
InstallationThe valve must be installed so flow through the valveis as indicated by the flow direction arrow on the valvebody. Consideration should be given to installing anupstream strainer, especially if the valve uses aWhisper Trim III or Cavitrol III cage.
Overall dimensions are shown in figures 14, 15, and16. Face-to-face dimensions are in compliance withISA-S75 standards (S75.12, S75.15, and S75.16) andIEC 60534-3-3 (for buttweld ends only). Actual endconnection dimensions conform to ASME B16.25 forbuttwelding ends and to ASME B16.5 for flanged ends.

Trim Selection GuidelinesRefer to the following descriptions as a guideline forthe selection of appropriate trims. Trims 201B, 204,202, and 203 should not be used in boiler feedwaterdue to amine corrosion problems associated withCoCr-A and R30006 (alloy 6).
Trim 201—Trim 201 is the standard trim forcarbon steel and alloy steel bodies. Trim 201A, with anS41600 (416 stainless steel) heat-treated seat ring, isrecommended for general and severe serviceapplications up to 427C (800F) for the 1 and 2-inchvalve size and up to 343C (650F) for the 3 through6-inch valve size. Trim 201B, with an S31600/CoCr-Aseat ring, is recommended for the same applicationsup to 427C (800F) for the 3 through 6-inch valvesize only. Typical applications for Trim 201 includeservices in boiler feedwater (Trim 201A only), water,non-sour hydrocarbons, and steam. The S41600heat-treated plug and seat ring have a minimumhardness of 38 HRC (Rockwell C), as compared toCoCr-A with a minimum hardness of 36 HRC.
Trim 204—Trim 204 should be used for sour gasservice or moderately corrosive service. Standardstem material, S20910 (Nitronic 50 grade XM19 SST)meets the requirements for NACE applications. Not forboiler feedwater use if amine problems exist.
Trim 202—Trim 202 is designed primarily for usein all high temperature applications between 427C(800F) and 566C (1050F), but can also be usedbetween -29C (-20F) and 427C (800F). Not forboiler feedwater use if amine problems exist.Trim 202 is recommended for use in 6-inch valves

between –29C (–20F) and 343C (650F).Trim 202A is recommended for use in 6-inch valvesbetween 260C (500F) and 566C (1050F).
Trim 203—Trim 203 is the standard trim forstainless steel valve body materials and should onlybe used with stainless steel valve body materials. Notfor boiler feedwater use if amine problems exist.

C-seal Trim DescriptionC-seal trim is available for Design HPD valves withport diameters from 2-7/8 inches through 8 inches.
With C-seal trim, a balanced valve can achievehigh-temperature, Class V shutoff. Because the C-sealplug seal is formed from metal (N07718 nickel alloy,Inconel 718) rather than an elastomer, a valveequipped with the C-seal trim can be applied inprocesses with a fluid temperature of up to 593C(1100F).
