2 Ways to talk about the

IRREGULAR VERBSin the future tense are those that do not use the INFINITIVE as the stem. Use

these instead!

*means to be worth

• Querer - Querr-• Tener - Tendr-• Poner - Pondr-• Venir - Vendr-• Salir - Saldr-

In Spanish, we make hypothetical statements…”IF”… using:

Si (if) + imperfect subjunctive*You only have to know these four “if clauses” as vocabulary:

If I, you, he etc. couldIf I, you, he etc. were (*ser: tall, rich, poor, smart, etc..)

Por ejemplo:Ej: Si (yo) tuviera un millón dólares =If I had a million dollars…

Ej: Si nosotros fueramos ricos =

If I could speak Chinese…

In a hypothetical situation . . . What would you do?

• If you had a million dollars. . .

– Would you buy a car? A house?

• Use the conditional tense to say what you WOULD DO in the hypothetical situation.

Forming the CONDITIONAL TENSE

1. Start with the INFINITIVE

2. Add the following endings to the infinitive or irregular root

Conditional Irregulars

• These irregular forms are the same as the FUTURE tense!

• Instead of using the infinitive, use the irregular root + endings!

Now . . .Put the If clauses and the conditional

tense together . . .

Note: You DO NOT have to have an “ If ” (Si..) clause to use the conditional.

The conditional can be used alone to simply say what you and others WOULD DO
