HOWELL TOWNSHIP COMMUNITY ECONOMIC PROFILE Rail: Two (2) rail lines run through the Township Air: The Livingston County Spencer J. Hardy Airport is located on Grand River Avenue at the intersection of M-59 and Grand River Avenue. The airport operates year round in all weather conditions and serves general aviation, commercial freight and passengers, law enforcement, flight instruction and aircraft maintenance. With a runway length of five-thousand two (5,002) feet and precision instrument landing systems, the airport serves all of Livingston County and southeast Michigan. The University of Michigan Survival Flight currently utilizes the airport for life flight operations and other rescue related means. Land is available for development in and around the airport. Inquiries may be made to Mark Johnson, Airport Manager of the Spencer J. Hardy Livingston County Airport at 517-546-6675. Highway: The Township is home to two (2) major highways; I-96 and M-59.

Bus: LETS (Livingston Essential Transportation Service) will travel anywhere in the Township or County with advance notice. Call 517-546-6600 for rates and scheduling information.

Public Facilities: The Township Hall is currently located on Byron Road in the Township. Fire protection and emergency medical services are provided through contractual arrangements with the City of Howell and the Village of Fowlerville. Police protection is currently provided by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department. Hospitals and Clinics: St. Joseph Mercy Livingston located in Howell, MI. Higher Education: Cleary University located in Howell, MI. There are branches of Washtenaw Community College and Lansing Community College located in the Township with technical training and classes offered at Mott Technical Training Center. Public Schools: The Howell School District provides K-12 education facilities to most of the school age children in the Township. Elementary schools are located in the northeast, northwest, and southwest parts of the township boundaries. Parochial Schools: Howell Township offers a number of private/parochial school options for children in the Township. A listing of these facilities may be found in local newspapers and media outlets. Recreational / Cultural Opportunities: Currently, recreational facilities are located at public school facilities. Parks located within the City of Howell and the Huron-Clinton Metropolitan Park Authority serve the recreational needs of the Township adequately.

RK2 Industrial Park: The 47 acre site located off of Burkhart Road in Howell Township has rail access and proximity to I-96. The site has a full range of utilities including gas, electric, water, and sewer. Contact Howell Township for more details of the site and potential vacancies. McPherson Industrial Park: Zoned light industrial, this 242 acre industrial park has direct access to both M-59 and I-96 from McPherson Drive. The site is located on Grand River Avenue and offers a full range of utilities including gas, sewer, electric, and water. Bounding the City of Howell, the industrial park is home to several major employers in the area and has direct rail access. Trans West Industrial Center: The 232 acre Trans West Industrial Park sits at the corner of M-59 and Grand River Avenue. With direct rail access and a full range of utilities including water, sewer, gas, and electric, the site provides a home base to many of the area’s largest corporations. Trans West Industrial Center has direct access to M-59 and I-96, two of the area’s major transportation hubs.
