Around the year 2004 our founders began purchasing land in the vicinity of the village
of Conde in Bahia, Brazil. They eventually came to own an area measuring six thousand
hectares, including miles of coastline and areas of untouched natural preserves.
Right from the start, they saw themselves not simply as “owners” but as caretakers of
the land. They also felt a strong sense of responsibility for the wellbeing of the native
population living there. Therefore their first act was to give legal status to the poor
families who had been living illegally on the land. And to establish Instituto Gente,
a foundation that provides schooling for the children of the native families - about 90%
of whom were illiterate.
After some years, our founders saw how the coconut was gaining popularity as a healthy
food product. It was only then that they had the idea to cultivate and farm a portion of
the land. After extensive research around the world, they decided to go for it, knowing
very well that to go for it would mean to invest in it. They started engineering and
building a high-precision irrigation system that provides the most exact care for every
tree on our farm. They invested in a unique and patented extraction method that gives
our product the most natural taste. They built
a state-of-the-art factory with two in-house packaging lines. And they started
a one-of-its-kind Arista system, supporting local workers to become the most
sustainable farmers in the region. After years of investing in growing 400.000+ trees,
giving thousands of young, fresh green coconuts every single day, they started their
coconut product brand. And they called the brand Obrigado. Obrigado means “thank
you” in Portuguese, the language of Brazil. And as you can understand we are called
“Obrigado” for a reason.
From day one, our founders understood very well that we can only exist by the grace of
the ecosystem and the social environment we’re a part of. We are grateful to mother
nature for the awesome fruit she gives us. That is why every year we build on the social
and environmental work our founders have put in place, and keep on improving and
bringing our sustainability efforts to the next level. Right now you are reading our very
first report in which we tell our complete sustainability story and share the impact we
have made so far. In it we present in great detail the work we have done since the start
of the company and we share with you our future goals and ambitions to keep increasing
our positive impact on the planet and society. One major achievement I want to share
with you already is that we became a Certified B Corporation this summer.
This is the ultimate recognition we could have received for all the work we have been
doing.
From now on we will keep sharing and being transparent about the impact we have
made as a true coconut company.

A true coconut companyWe grow, nourish and harvest fresh green coconuts on our own sustainable farms in
Bahia, Brazil. And we have our own factory right next to the farms, to turn them into
all kinds of delicious coconut products for our customers to enjoy. You could say the
coconut gives us everything. And for that it deserves a big thank you. We only use the
highest quality, fresh, young green coconuts. Thanks to our unique and patented extrac-
tion process we’re the only ones in the world who are able to get this delicious coconut
water into the bottle without exposing it to air and light – which can alter the taste.
So when our customers open a bottle of Obrigado premium 100% coconut water, it
tastes like they’re drinking straight from the coconut. We are true to the coconut; all

Scope of this reportThe scope of this report covers all activities under the Grupo Aurantiaca.
Sustainability management: Obrigado does not have a separate sustainability
department. Instead it is integrated in different procedures, policies, activities
and departments within the company. The final responsibility for sustainability and
Corporate Social Responsibility within Obrigado rests with the CEO and the board.
Being a True Coconut Company we have a strong identity, basically
formed by five brand values, Obrigado’s five P’s: Product, Planet, People,
Personality and Passion.
The meaning of these five values determines our identity and therefore
our communication and behavior. Since we try to be a really true brand,
we do this consistently and we ask our partners to do the same.

Our impact missionWe’re true to the planet. We don’t take more than we need, and
we give back what we can. Starting with the nature surrounding us.
Only 30 percent of the land we own is being farmed; the other 70 percent
we preserve as untouched forest. We sow, grow and harvest our coco-
nuts in a unique way: by giving each tree its own unique bar code, we’ve
got real-time insight into the health of every single tree. This ensures
the highest yield per square meter with the lowest possible usage of
water and fertilizer.
We are a B CorpObrigado is proud to have been declared a Certified B Corporation®,
following years of sustainable practices and a dedication to social
responsibility. This means we meet the highest standards of verified
social and environmental performance, public transparency, and
legal accountability to balance profit and purpose. We are using busi-
ness as a force for good. We are the first coconut water brand
in the world to be acknowledged for its efforts.
Because we are committed to the most eco-
friendly, sustainable practices, our ultimate goal
is to create zero waste, utilizing 100% of the
coconut. For example, the dry husks of the brown
coconut are used for fiber erosion control and we
are exploring ways to create energy for our factory
out of portions of the remaining coconut.

Sharing goodness planWe’re true to the planet. We don’t take more than we need, and we give back what we can. Is this sentence repeated from
above intentionally? We have a plan in place to share goodness, and we want to be transparent about this towards our fans.

Preparing future
generations
We take good care of nature and take our environmental responsibility very seriously: we start with the nature surrounding us. Only 30% of the
land we own is being farmed; the other 70% we preserve as untouched forest.
Our goal is to use every single piece of the coconut to create a product range of coconut water, coco drinks and bio-mats. We are even working to
transform as much of the green coconut husk as possible into energy for our factory. This is all part of our zero waste strategy and our mission to
be a leading and TRUE coconut company.
We are true to the people we work with and everyone living in the communities on and around or land. They are like family to us, and we want to
treat them that way. We invest in local economic development by creating fair jobs and investing in their personal and professional development.
We are especially proud on our Arista system, educating local farmers to become the professional managers (Aristas) of the 44 plots of the
Obrigado land.
Giving back to the local community by investing in the education of their children, and making future generations aware of the beauty of our
rainforests, and the importance of taking good care of it.
Part II The impact we made
1 2
1 3
We take good care of nature and take our environmental responsibility very seriously: the
most important and ambitious decision we have made to do so, is that only 30% of the
land we own is being farmed; the other 70% preserve as untouched forest.
Land useOnly 30% of our land is being farmed, the rest of the land is preserved as untouched
forest, allocated to preserving existing biodiversity and protecting Atlantic Rainforest
vegetation. Preserving 70% of the land helps to keep a natural eco-balance, which makes
it also harder for the bugs to affect our coconut trees. Because of our sustainable farming
methods, our trees produce more than average - 240 coconuts a year. This way, we need
less land, making our operation even more sustainable.
Organic fertilizerFertilizers, pesticides and other agrochemicals are big contributors to declining soil
health and climate change. Therefore we try to use as many organic fertilizers as
possible. And what can be better for our soil than the remainders of the coconut husk
itself? The majority of the fertilizers we use are on the list approved by the Rainforest
Alliance. This is the most rigorous Sustainable Agriculture Standard in the world.
BiodiversityBetween our farms, we have created ecological corridors for animals that interconnect
areas of the Atlantic Rainforest. This way, the plantation does not interfere in their
normal way of life. We are very proud that on our land fox, snakes, birds, and native
animals such as capybara, armadillos and paca have found their home.
Combatting deforestationObrigado has implemented the Private National Heritage Reserve, giving 1700 ha of
our property a protected status. In compliance with their registration in this Private
Natural Heritage Reserve, the untouched territory preserves fragile ecosystems including
sandbanks and mangrove swamps. Additionally, the passage to the untouched forest is
preserved by ecological corridors.
ReforestationFrom the beginning we have enthusiastically been involved in seed collection and setting
up a nursery to ensure the reforestation of native trees species and their perpetuation
and maintenance.
Climate changeOver the last years more than 400.000 trees have been planted, significantly contributing
to combatting climate change. Together these trees have a carbon uptake of more than
35.000 tons of CO2. This equals the emissions of approximately 4.000 households a year.
We can only imagine the CO2 uptake of our entire land (the 70% untouched forest).

Great products make people feel good. That’s why we do everything we can to produce the
best quality, sustainable coconuts in the world. Our farms have more than 400,000 Brazilian
dwarf trees which are renowned for producing the best tasting coconuts in the world.
It’s the day-by-day attention from our Aristas, combined with our precise irrigation, that
create the best, freshest tasting coconuts in the world. Plus, thanks to our unique and pat-
ented way of extracting the coconut water without exposing it to air and light, we are able to
transport this fresh, delicious taste right into the bottle. Our goal is to use every single piece
of the coconut to create a product range of coconut water, coco drinks, and bio-mats and we
are even working to transform as much of the green coconut husk as possible into energy
for our factory. This is all part of our zero waste strategy and our mission to be a leading and
TRUE coconut company.
Precision farmingWe sow, grow and harvest our coconuts in a unique way: by giving each tree its own unique
bar code, we’ve got real-time insight into the health of every single tree. This leads to the
lowest possible consumption of water and fertilizer and the highest yield per square meter.
Water efficiencyThe high-tech irrigation system ensures that only the amount of water that is actually
needed is being provided. This saves lots of water.
Zero wasteWe process the dry coconut fibers, reusing the husk and its waste products to guarantee
a clean and 100% sustainable process. The husk is turned into anti-erosion biodegrada-
ble blankets (“bio-mats”), to optimize the process of recuperating degraded areas and
revegetating slopes and embankments. The fibers can also be reused for upholstery or
composites. The left-overs of this production process are being used as organic fertilisze-
rs on Obrigado land.
PackagingIt’s very important for Obrigado to try to ensure its packaging is sustainable and of high
quality. Like many other beverage brands, Obrigado uses PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate)
for the packaging of its 350ml bottles. Obrigado uses PET packaging for a few reasons.
It is light in weight, which makes the transport of products more sustainable and more
efficient. Secondly, PET is virtually unbreakable and of a very high quality, preserving the
product’s quality from production to consumer. It is also a highly recyclable packaging
material that can be reused after a recycling process that is widely available.

Learn more about the coconut tree The coconut tree is a member of the Palm family, cultivated in tropical areas worldwide
for its fruit and fiber. The coconut tree is considered among the top ten most useful and
valuable trees in the world as all of its components can be used for a variety of different
applications. There are more than 100 varieties of coconut trees around the world and
they can be grouped under the tall, dwarf and hybrid varieties, depending on their
growth rate.
Germination & growth
• The growth of a coconut tree starts with
germination of the seed.
• A seed can take up to 9 months to sprout.
• Within a few monthts from sprouting, the
palm fronds reach 1.8m-2.7m (6ft-9ft) in length.
• In this phase the trunk will grow tall at a fast
pace.
Flowering & maturity
• Most trees take 2 to 4 years before they
start to flower.
• Fruit production increases as the tree ma-
tures, peaking at between 6-15 years of age.
• A coconut tree will produce around 50-300
coconuts per year.
End of life
• Trees can live up to 100 year.
• The amount of coconuts gradually diminis-
ches, dropping off entirely around age 80.
• Coconut trees cultivate in large-scale farms
are usually replaced by new trees approxi-
mately after their initial plantation.
“The coconut tree is alsoreferred to as the tree of life”
Getting a better insight in the coconut tree and the composition of its fruits helps you
to understand our zero waste strategy, and our goal of using all parts of the coconut.

Growth process of a coconut
Flower
• New leaves grow every month all year
round.
• After its emergence the leaf has a life
of 12 months.
Green coconut
• After flowering, coconuts take 6
months to grow into green coconuts.
• Nuts are harvested at a 30-day
interval.
• Green coconuts are primarily used
for coconut water.
Dry coconut
• Harvest after 12 months.
• Consequently, dry coconuts
contain more meat and a lower
volume of water compared to
a green coconut.

3. Promoting local development and proud Aristas
As we are true to the planet, we are true to the people in our community. And we treat all
the people we work with like family. The same goes for our partners and our customers - we
consider them to be part of the Obrigado family.
Long term & local employmentVia the Opportunity Plan we engage the highest quota of local labor possible in improvement
and personal development programs, benefiting hundreds of families in the region. We employ
hardly any expats. More than 90% of our employees come from local communities.
Arista SystemObrigado has launched its one-of-a-kind Arista system, educating local farmers to become
the professional managers (Aristas) of the 44 plots of the Obrigado land. These dedicated
farmers and passionate coconut experts are trained in our Arista Training Center. The Aristas
receive approximately 60 hours of training per year. They receive training on topics including
sustainable farming, irrigation and plant nutrition. As a bonus, with the Arista system we
see that our yield is 10 times higher than that of other farms.
DiversityWhen it comes to gender equality on the work floor, Obrigado is a frontrunner in promoting
diversity and gender equality. 60% of the administrative team is female.
Local economic impactWhen we source new suppliers, we prefer buying resources from neighbouring farms,
allowing them and, in turn the local community, to benefit from our success. Obrigado
was the first industrial company in the region. This gives us the responsibility to share our
knowledge, network and support.
Pedra Grande communityOne of our first corporate responsibility acts was to give legal status to the families who
had been living illegally on the land for many years. Pedra Grande was a small community
of 200 people, divided into 40 families. We assisted every single person who did not have
an official birth certificate to secure a legal status with the local authorities. In addition,
we helped the families to obtain property deeds so they could remain on their land forever
and build a future there. We are well aware and proud that all these activities are in the end
contributing to sustainable economic development in our local community.

4. Preparing future generationsWith Instituto Gente, whose mission is to “help identi-
fy and reveal the enormous human and natural poten-
tial which already exists, regardless of the conditions
today”, we offer the local youth free education.
So in a sense, we don’t just grow trees, we grow fu-
tures. At the same time, we also want to give back to
the local community and mother nature by making its
future generations aware of the beauty of our rainfor-
ests, and the importance of taking good care of it.
In particular Instituto Gente aims at achieving the following objectives:
• Formal and informal education of children and teens: the school programme offers both mandatory courses
as well as extracurricular activities.
• Community development: meetings and activities focused on human development, social organisation and
professional training are offered.
• Environmental stewardship: engages the community to help preserve and restore environmental assets.
• Social and environmental services: services focusing on ensuring financial sustainability and providing
opportunities to fulfill the mission of the Institute.
Instituto GenteWhen we found out, already in 2013, that more than
90% of the children in the Pedra Grande community
were illiterate, we established Instituto Gente. This is
a foundation that provides schooling for the children of
the native families. Instituto Gente aims to unveil, iden-
tify and develop potential among local communities of
the relatively poor Bahian area near Conde. The institute
offers not only a free education to local youth, but also
a healthy daily meal.

Multiplying goodness as a B CorpWe’re all familiar with Patagonia, Natura and Ben & Jerry’s as brands that are using the
power of business to address social and environmental problems. What you may not
know is that all these companies are B Corporations: Benefit Corporations. And we are
proud to be a certified B Corporation too. The “B” stands for Benefit, which represents
a new breed of businesses that harness their power and resources for public good.
This designation signals that we are committed to making a profound social difference,
safeguarding people and the planet, and meeting higher standards of transparency,
performance, and accountability. At Obrigado, we understand very well that we can
only exist by the grace of the ecosystem and the social environment we’re a part of.
Therefore we are committed to making a real social difference and protecting the planet.
We became a B Corp because we were looking for a way to measure our impact. And to
be transparent to our fans on how we run our business and try to make a difference in
the world. Being a B Corp gives us guidance as to what we can do to increase our impact
and shines a light on how we can be even better.
“We’re true to the planet. We don’t take more than we need, and we give back what we can. Being part of the B Corp
movement is another level for us to accelerate this.”

82How does B Corp work?B Corp is an international community of 2400+ companies in 50 countries that, apart
from profit, also pursue emphatically sustainable and social objectives. To fulfil the
performance requirement for B Corp Certification, a company must complete the B
Impact Assessment. This tool is designed to help measure and manage a company’s
positive impact on its workers, community, customers and environment. B Corp
Certification requires a minimum verified total score of 80 points across all impact areas.
Individually, B Corps meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental
performance, public transparency, and legal accountability, and aspire to use the power
of markets to solve social and environmental problems. Collectively, B Corps lead a
growing global movement of people using business as a force for good. Through the
power of their collective voice, one day all companies will compete to be best for the
world, and society will enjoy a more shared and durable prosperity for all.

B Corp ScorecardTo certify as a B Corp, a company must achieve a minimum verified score of 80 points
on the B Impact Assessment. The B Impact Assessment asks questions about how the
day-to-day operations of a company create a positive impact for the company’s workers,
community, and environment. Additionally, companies can earn further points if their
overall business model can be shown to create positive social and environmental
impact as well, qualifying the company for specific Impact Business Model points. In the
overview on the next page you will find all our scores on the four categories.

The way forward
“It is our purposeto multiply goodness”.
As a true company we intend to do this in many ways. We are already doing this
by making healthy products, so our consumers can drink nature’s goodness. And by
our programs to protect nature and biodiversity. Also we are doing this by farming
in a sustainable way by creating as less as possible waste by using as much as
possible every part of the coconut. Not to forget our educational programs and the
foundation of Instituto Gente, helping to grow futures and not only coconut trees.
For the next years, it is our ambition to share this goodness as well. To involve our
fans. Like our consumers, our clients and all other stakeholders. Obrigado is theirs.
Together with them we want to build this inspirational brand, doing amazing
things for the planet and the people living on it. That all fans love and be thankful
for, so we can all say from the bottom of our hearts: Obrigado!

WHAT ARE OUR GOALS AND AMBITIONS?
• Using 100% organic and Rainforest Alliance approved fertiliser
• Boosting biodiversity on our land. One way of doing this is investing in bee
keeping projects.
• Combatting deforestation by implementing the Private National Heritage Reserve,
giving more parts of our land a protected status.
• Measuring the long term environmental impact of these activities.
• Investing in sustainable, recyclable packaging
• Working towards zero waste, by transforming the final remainders of the green
coconut husk into biofuel for our own factory.
• Scaling our renewable energy consumption by making use of locally sourced or
even energy sources we produce ourselves.
• Measuring the long term environmental impact of these activities.
• Expanding our Employee Training program.
• Investing in our Arista Training Center.
• Introducing the Obrigado Sustainability Code of Conduct for suppliers.
• Measuring the long term environmental impact of these activities.
• Investing in the development and growth of Institute Gente in Conde and beyond.
• Expanding awareness of environmental sustainability and sustainable farming.
• Measuring the long term environmental impact of these activities.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?SHARING GOODNESS BY:
We take good care of nature and take our environmental
responsibility very seriously: we start with the nature surrounding
us. Only 30% of the land we own is being farmed; the other 70% we
preserve as untouched forest.
Our goal is to use every single piece of the coconut to create
a product range of coconut water, coco drinks and bio-mats.
We are even working to transform as much of the green coconut
husk as possible into energy for our factory. This is all part of our
zero waste strategy and our mission to be a leading and TRUE
coconut company.
We are true to the people we work with and everyone living in the
communities on and around or land. They are like family to us,
and we want to treat them that way. We invest in local economic
development by creating fair jobs and investing in their personal
and professional development. We are especially proud of our
Arista system, educating local farmers to become the professional
managers (Aristas) of the 44 plots of the Obrigado land.
Giving back to the local community by investing in the education of
their children, and making future generations aware of the beauty of
our rainforests, and the importance of taking good care of it.
