How to Scan for Printing This tutorial helps you scan and create large files which cannot be sent over email, but that print out at high quality. You will need to save these files to a blank CD or zip disk, because a floppy disk will not have enough storage space. The main application for this type of scanning is to create print documents.

Prepare to Scan

1. Place item(s) face down in the scanner.

2. Open Photoshop in the Start Menu in the lower left corner of your computer screen.

3. Click on the File tab in the upper-left corner of Photoshop and move your mouse down the menu list to Import. Another menu will appear with a list of scanners; select HP Scanjet 4570c/5500c #2…

4. Click on the Advanced menu item and select the Resolution option from the menu (Figure 2: Item 1).

change the resolution to 600 dpi (Figure 2: Item 2).

6. On the left side of your screen, everything highlighted in the dotted outline will be scanned (Figure 2: Item 3). You can crop or expand the selected area by moving the mouse over one of the black boxes which borders the dotted line. Click and hold the left mouse button to move each black box and change the highlighted area. Release the mouse button to make your change to the highlighted area.

7. When you have finished selecting the area to be scanned, click on the Accept icon at the bottom of the preview window (Figure 2: Item 4).

8. The scanned image will be displayed in a Photoshop window.

9. Click on the File tab in the upper-left corner of Photoshop and move your mouse down the menu list to Save as (See Figure 1 for reference).

10. Enter in a File Name (Figure 3: Item 1). We also recommend selecting Arcspace from the Save in menu at the top of the Save As window.

11. Click on the Format option below File Name and scroll down to the last option of TIFF (*.TIF;*.TIFF) which is a high quality format (Figure 3: Item 2).

12. Click Save (Figure 3: Item 3).

compress your image. Although it should be the default setting, make sure NONE is selected at the very top of the menu (Figure 4: Item 1), then click OK.
