We know that our xperia ray got the update from ICS 4.0.3 to ICS 4.0.4. I’m really glad to know that, lot of

my readers are satisfied with my simple steps to root ICS 4.0.3. Now its time to root your Android 4.0.4! I

have found lot of hard steps to root Android 4.0.4. I think, it is only suitable for advanced users and

developers. But, I’m going to show you a simple method to root Android 4.0.4! First of all, are you newbie in

rooting? Don’t know what is android rooting? Ok, let me explain about android rooting.

What Is Root?On many computer operating systems including Unix, Linux and Android, the root account, is a special user

with complete access to all files and commands. Various names for this type of account might include,

administrator, superuser, or supervisor.

In the context of Android, root access allows the user to have complete control over their device. Root

access is commonly granted for developers allowing them access to all files and commands on the device.

With full root access to a device, there is potential for damage. Any user with root access is strongly

cautioned to be very careful.

How To Root Sony Xperia Ray 4.0.4?Warning: This tutorial is for 4.1.B.0.587 only! So, verify now: Go to your phone

I have one question: I did softmod on Wii and I think that is similar to rooting android. So, on Wii,

you can back up Wii’s operating system, NAND, and restore it if you accidentally brick Wii while

softomodding. Is anything similar possible on Android? I barely got money to buy Ray, if I brick it I

can only afford a phone without a camera, I could only dream about another Android. Thanks!!!

For flashtool, Unknown Sources and Debugging must be

both these options are already checked in….

i guess rooting it would take just 5 mins.

but the downloads and finding the missing/not working files takes forever.

i still haven’t done it successfully because the Flashtool-Driver.exe wont install properly.

im getting error:

Driver Name Status

I tried downloading another Flashtool-driver but i’m getting the same error.

Shall i redownload the entire Flashtool zip file?

Please help me.

Hi,

I still haven’t successfully rooted my phone.

When you said that my internet connection is slow, i went to my friend’s home

and did it here since she has DSL connection while i just use broadband.

Anyways, it seems like there had been some updates:

a) Flashtool-master zip file is 308mb now

b) I can only unzip the Flashtool-master. Can’t find out how to install it.

Page 14: How to Root Sony Xperia Ray

c) I can’t run the Flashtool application (unable to open 64-bits while getting

multiple Java errors when running 32-bits. Flashtool-master/ProgramExe)

I don’t know what to do anymore. I hope there is a way thay I can show you

the screenshots of the errors I’m getting if that would make it easier for you to

help me.

I’m hoping to have this rooting done so that I can upgrade to Jellybean as well.

Hehe. Please help.

Thanks a lot,

so that it’ll be compatible in Windows 8?

Also, just yesterday, i got a notification in my phone saying that

there’s a new system update available – 4.1.B.0.587

This already is the kernel version of my phone. I guess when i

tried to downgrade it using the flashtool it somehow go through

but did not complete because of the errors that i got.

Well i hope i’d be able to root my phone soon.

Thanks so much!

Anyway, here are the answers for your queries:

1. I think, you are saying about “ADB”, just install the “Flashtool-

drivers.exe” in the location “C:\Flashtool\drivers”.

2. See the first answer.

3. That package contains the software(program) to root your device.

4. Just delete all default files located in the directory ”

C:\Flashtool\firmwares”.

I missed clear sentence at the end of guide : After root is finished, new app Superuser appear at

I also have this problem with the “adb server is out of date. killing”. I have

wondered, is there a folder where to install the drivers? Perhaps that’s what i’m

missing.

Oh yeah, I also tried the ADBFix but I don’t know where is my Android SDK

Hey Daryl.

This is happening because of older version of adb.exe is running on your

system background. Just go to the task-manager–>Processes, and check

for adb.exe . If found, just kill it and try again.

Hi.

First of all, if the root checker says: “Your phone is rooted”, then you can assure that, your

phone is fully rooted. When an app is asking for root rights, the “superuser” app will prompt

you to allow,or deny application to access root. In that time, you have to select “Grant”

option to allow the app to access root. So, please make sure that you have done this! If not,

go to the super user app and clear all apps from the “app” tab. This will reset all the

permission settings of root access apps. Then try once again to open your app/game.

Thanks.

Hi Adam.

This issue can be resolved if you kill the adb server process in

windows. To resolve this issue, just open “task manger” and go

to “processes” tab and check for the process related to “adb”

and kill it. Then try again.

Thanks.

Hello Khan.

Thanks for your kind words. You can upgrade your android version 2.3.4 to 4.0.4 by

automatically or manually.

You have to ways to do the upgrade automatically.

1. Install the latest version of Sony PC Companion and connect your device to the PC and do

the update.

2. Install Sony Update Service and connect your device to the PC and upgrade your OS.

To Upgrade Manually,

Read this article: How To Root Sony Xperia Ray With Android 4.0.4 In 5 Minutes

and follow these steps:

1. Download the Kernal 4.1.B.0.587 from the “Requirements” of the article.

2. Do the “Step 1 and Step 2 only.

Now you have successfully upgraded your OS to the latest official ICS version 4.0.4.

Hope this helps.

Thanks

Rooting

Go to settings > Security > Mark “Unknown sources”

Settings > Developer options > Mark USB debugging

Settings > Xperia > connectivity > USB connection mode > select MSC mode

PC Companion installed on your PC.

1) Connect your phone to PC ( IMPORTANT > Skip PC Companion installation pop up on your phone.)

and wait for the adb drivers to be installed. If these drivers don’t get installed, phone would not be

detected by Eroot.

Make sure nothing else ( specially flashtool ) is running on your PC in the background.

2) Download this rooting toolkit. https://www.dropbox.com/s/jnwl5r3fnsssbuu/Eroot_V1.3.4.exe and

run it. If any downloading starts, cancel it by clicking the green button. Don’t let the eroot download

anything.

It should now detect your phone and show an option to “-root”. Just click on it, wait till it finishes

3)Rooting done ( For confirmation see if any Super User app has been installed )

4) If by chance it fails for the first time, give it another go. it won’t harm your phone in any way.

Hi Htet.

Android is a linux based operating system. Linux will only support FAT file system. I know.

NTFS allows faster file transfer and big file size. But, it is not possible to format and use an

SD card using NTFS file system for android smartphones.

Thanks.
