How to replace rear suspensionshock absorbers on TOYOTA RAV 4II

Copper grease

Combination spanner #17

Drive socket # 14

Wheel impact socket #17

Ratchet wrench

Torque wrench

Adjustable wrench

Flat Screwdriver

Crow bar

Hydraulic transmission jack

Wheel chock

CARRY OUT REPLACEMENT IN THE FOLLOWING ORDER:

Secure the wheels with chocks.

Both shock absorbers of the rear suspension should be replacedsimultaneously.

The replacement procedure is identical for the left and right shockabsorbers of the rear suspension.

All work should be done with the engine stopped.

Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.

Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.

Unscrew the wheel bolts.

Remove the wheel.

Support the stub axle. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.

To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts.

Clean the shock absorber fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.

Unscrew the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a drive socket #14. Use a ratchet

wrench.

Detach the lower part of the shock absorber. Use a crowbar.

Remove the support from under the stub axle.

Lower the car.

Lower the hydraulic transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, toavoid damaging assemblies and mechanisms.

Open the boot lid.

Remove the side plastic cover. Use a flat screwdriver.

Clean the shock absorber fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.

Unscrew the upper fastener of the shock absorber. Use a combination spanner #17. Use an

adjustable wrench.

Remove the shock absorber.

To avoid injuries, hold the shock absorber when undoing thefastening bolts.

Treat the shock absorber mounting seats. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.

Place the shock absorber in the wheel arch and fasten it.

Before installing a new shock absorber you should pump it manually3-5 times.

Screw the upper fastener of the shock absorber.

Tighten the top shock absorber fastening. Use a combination spanner #17. Use an adjustable

wrench. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 65 Nm torque.

To avoid injury, hold the shock absorber cautiously tight whenscrewing in the fastening bolts.

Install the side plastic panel.

Close the lid of the luggage compartment.

Raise the rear of the car and secure on supports.

Support the stub axle. Use a hydraulic transmission jack.

Attach the lower part of the shock absorber.

Screw in the lower fastener of the shock absorber.

Tighten the lower fastener of the shock absorber. Use a drive socket #14. Use a torque

wrench. Tighten it to 50 Nm torque.

Remove the support from under the stub axle.

Treat the surface where the wheel rim contacts the brake drum. Use copper grease.

Install the wheel.

To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when screwing in the fasteningbolts.

Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #17.

Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts Use wheel impact socket

#17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 120 Nm torque.

Remove the jacks and chocks.
