How To Reach Your Potential pt. 1

Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us. Eph. 3:20

Potential

Potential• Webster Dictionary definition-A possibility-

something that can come into being.• Another definition of the word “potential”

says it is “what you can do but have not yet accomplished.”

Potential

• If you aren’t careful, you can hear that as “reaching your potential is based solely on your own efforts.” Not true.

• It is about surrendering yourself to God and letting His will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Potential

• We can better define potential this way: Potential is how far you can go, not alone, but with God.

• You see, God loves you and has great expectations for you.

• When you develop and use what He has given you, whether you view it as big or small, you are developing the potential He created in you.

Potential

• Here is what the Amplified Bible tells us in Ephesians 2:10: “For we are God’s [own] handiwork (His workmanship), recreated in Christ Jesus, [born anew] that we may do those good works which God predestined (planned beforehand) for us [taking paths which He prepared ahead of time], that we should walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us to live].”

Potential

• When it comes to potential God doesn’t expect you to do it by yourself.

• As you pray asking for His direction, take time to stop and listen (see Proverbs 3:5-6). Then, don’t be afraid to step out and do the things He tells you.

• Remember, “God” will never lead you to do something contrary to His written Word.

• The way that may seem right to us can lead to death/destruction.

Potential

• You are of great value to God. • Truth be told, you can’t even fathom your full

potential. Only your Creator can. • Only God, the one who made you, knows all

you are capable of being. Your parents, your spouse, your friends, your boss — they only get a glimpse of your potential.

• Only God knows what you’re truly capable of.

Potential

• How much of the brain do most humans use?

Potential

• Barry Gordon at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore states “the brain represents three percent of the body's weight and uses 20 percent of the body's energy.“

• As humans we use virtually every part of the brain, and that [most of] the brain is active almost all the time,“

• Over a 24-hour period. "Evidence shows over a day you use 100 percent of your brain"

Potential

• What hinders us from reaching our full potential?

Potential-What Hinders Us• Not reflecting on past accomplishments• Not setting realistic goals• Not being thankful for what we already have• Not looking at good examples or role models• Lingering (or holding) on to past failures or

negative experiences• Unable to embrace change• Not being motivated to learn new things

Potential

Potential-What Hinders Us• You don’t need more intelligence. You need to

use more of the intelligence you already have!• You may have been told you that you can’t do

something, that you shouldn’t even bother because you’re not worth much anyway.

• Sometimes we live for the approval of others. We spend a lot of our time worrying about what others think of them.

Potential

Potential-What Hinders Us• Our lives become limited by replaying tapes in your

head of people who lied to you. People may not even mean to lie to you, but they still do.

• You’ve played these tapes over and over in your mind. And they’re lies. The people that made those statements about you have no idea about your potential. You have to talk to your Creator for that.

• Only he knows what he can do through your life. And only he can unlock that potential.

Potential

• How can we allow God to unlock our potential?

Potential

Reaching Your PotentialLearn God’s Word• God won’t unlock your potential until you

actually open the Word and learn it. • You won’t unlock potential by osmosis. You’ll

start to do it by learning what the Bible says.• God’s Word will unlock all you’ve been made to

do and be. Through it, you’ll be able to do things you’ve never thought possible.

Potential

Learn God’s WordScripture: The Lord frees us through his Word. Jesus said this in John 8:31-32: “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (NLT).

Potential

Reaching Your PotentialAccept God’s Word• The Bible has to be the authority in your life. You

may not like what you’re reading, but — if you want God’s best for your life — you need to accept what it says as the final authority for how you live.

• Scripture: II Tim. 3:16-All scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness

Potential

Reaching Your PotentialObey God’s Word. You can’t just learn God’s Word and accept God’s Word. You have to do what the Bible teaches. You don’t get blessed for the parts of the Bible you know. You get blessed for the parts of the Bible you do. • James 1:22-But be doers of the word, and not

hearing only, deceiving yourselves.

Potential

Potential • Talk About It- You were made for much more than you ever

imagined.• Scripture-The Bible tells us in 1 Corinthians 2:9, “What God has

planned for people who love him is more than eyes have seen or ears have heard. It has never even entered our minds!” (CEV)

• So open up God’s Word, and get ready to do what only God can imagine.

• Talk about what God can do through you. Your testimony is the strongest thing you have going for you. You are an overcomer by the words of your testimony Rev. 12:11.
