Learn the basic steps (which are as easy as 1-2-3), and then you are ready to undertake all sorts of attractive variations. Nothing could be simpler than hairpin lace, and nothing gives o more delightful appearance for so little of your time!

Basic Steps:

Step 1 . . . M a k e a ! o o p at e n d of b a l l thread ( l - ig . I).

Step 2 . . . Insert hook in loop a n d ^\-ind ba l l i h i c a d a i 'o inn l r ight p r o n g of staple (F ig . I).

Step 3 . . . T h r e a d o\cr hook and dra« ' t l i r o i i g h l o o p , k e e p i n g l o o p at center (F ig . 1).

S iep 4 . , . R a i s e h o o k lo a vert ica l p o s i t i o n ant l t t n n staple to the lel't (F ig . 2).

Step 5 . . . T h r e a d o\'er hook a n d d r a w t h r o u g h l o o p o n hook (F ig . 3). Step 6 . . . Insert hook in l o o p of left p r o n g (F ig . 4).

Step 7 . . . T h r e a d o\'er l iook a n d d r a w l o o p t h r o u g h (2 loops o n hook) , thread o\er a n d dvAw t h r o u g h 2 loops. Step 8 . . . R e p e a t Steps 4 to 7 i n c h u n t i l staple is filled. Step 9 . . . R e m o \ a l l but the last 4 loops f i o n i staple a n d c o n t i n u e as be­fore for l e n g t h des i red .
