“…I've compiled free articles that Robert Plank is giving away through his site or from

article directories.

Long on content, short on sales, but he is hoping that you like his free stuff enough to

someday buy something he's selling, of course, and if you do, I might or might not get a

commission out of the deal.

Regardless, you can learn a lot from reading the following articles, just like I do…”

Copywriting Tips - How Do Camtasia Videos Help to Write

Copy?

If you do not use screen capture software like TechSmith Camtasia, or its free alternative Jing, to

monitor your copywriting habits, you need to adopt this habit immediately. Using Camtasia screen

videos to record yourself writing copy will ensure you maintain focus on your copywriting jobs,

provide documentation of the hours you worked, and keeps a personal record for yourself about

what you changed in your sales letters, and why.

The first reason to use it is that a Camtasia recording is like having a boss looking over your

shoulder. While you are recording everything you do on-screen, you will not be checking e-mails

or surfing forums, you will be writing that sales copy.

Next, recording Camtasia videos will train you to give great sales critiques. People will pay you $97

for a one-hour sales letter critique, so if you can master this skill, you are building yet another

stream of copywriting income. Critiquing your own copy is not that different from critiquing other

peoples' copy, especially if you come back to a sales letter you wrote even a few days ago.

There is something about keeping the videos recording, and psyching yourself out thinking you are

creating a video product, that gets you to explain everything. If the cameras are not rolling, you

probably will not explain your changes as well.

Finally, Camtasia videos provide copywriting documentation, both for yourself and others. If you

need to go back and look at previous versions of your sales copy, you can simply rewind the video

and watch. You do not need to worry about saving a copy of the sales letter every step of the way

just to retrieve a single lost phrase or headline. You can also hand the videos over to your clients

either as free bonuses or proof that you actually worked the number of hours you claimed.

With computers getting faster and hard drives getting bigger, there is no reason not to record

videos of yourself writing copy. Actors and sports player videotape themselves practicing, so why

shouldn't you record yourself to find out where your copywriting and productivity bottlenecks

are?

Copywriting Tips - Add Proof to Your Sales Copy in 44

Seconds With 4 Easy Tactics

Find four ads from your junk mail pile or the Internet. This time, I want you to go for the larger

ads. Look at each one and see if they introduce proof.

You always see proof on internet sales letters, but do you notice proof in TV and radio

commercials? McDonald's marketing campaigns: "America's favorite fries according to a national

taste test."

Commercials for household cleaning items show their cleaning solution and a competitor's side-

by-side, showing that theirs is better. I know you see people pouring blue stuff on diapers at least

once a month.

If the ad doesn't introduce proof, add some. Are you looking at a pizza ad? Do they show pictures

of their pizza? Good... maybe you could add a testimonial. Get on a search engine and search for:

"keyword" review (with the quotes)... for example: "dominos pizza" review. I can quickly find

positive reviews about delivery time, ease of ordering, talk about crusts and toppings.

Maybe you can find a frightening statistical fact. Search for "problem keyword" percent, or

"problem keyword" million, or "problem keyword" million Americans.

If you're rewriting an ad for a skin lotion, search for: "dry skin" million Americans... The National

Health Interview Survey says 81 million Americans experience dry skin in winter months.

Maybe I'm rewriting a sunscreen ad. I will search for "skin cancer" million and find out that every

year, 1 million Americans are diagnosed with skin cancer (according to the Boston Globe)... you

could write that as: "One million Americans will be diagnosed with skin cancer in 2008... will you

be one of them?"

I also learned spending 15 minutes in the sun with an SPF-15 sunblock is equivalent to only 1

minute in the sun unprotected, according to the American Academy of Dermatology.

Get the idea? Research can actually be fun! If you get the hang of doing research for these obvious

examples, like pizza, lotion, and sunblock, you'll have an easier time finding facts about the

products you promote. But remember, you are not limited to just statistical research...

You can provide testimonials, still images, action videos, before and after demonstrations,

analogies... anything to get the message through and say:

There is a PROBLEM... There is a SOLUTION... Here is PROOF my solution works... Here is how you

can GET my solution. That is copywriting.

Attention copywriters: Consistently write satisfactory sales letters that are selling within a matter

of hours... GUARANTEED!

Copywriting Tips - Do Not Hire a Copywriter

You should avoid paying an expensive copywriter and try to write your own copy for three

reasons. First of all, when you hire a copywriter, you are hiring a stranger so you have no idea

about their skill or work ethics. Second, many strangers on the Internet are lazy so you might end

up waiting weeks or months for your sales letter to be ready. Finally, you have to take into account

that copywriters are expensive.

Any time you hire a freelancer on the Internet, you are taking a big risk. Whether it is an article

writer, programmer, or copywriter, you are giving someone money in exchange for a product that

might not be workable. Most people are willing to give $100 to an article writer or $500 to a

programmer, but $5000 for a single sales letter to an unproven copywriter for a sales letter that

might not even be complete? Forget about it.

Another factor you need to take into account is laziness. It is true that most freelance sites allow

people to rate and review the writers, but I have seen copywriter after copywriter fall into the trap

of taking on too many clients once they become successful. After a few good $5000 jobs, it is easy

to think the business will scale up. Even the best copywriters cannot take on ten new jobs at once,

by themselves.

Finally, there is the cost factor, which relates to the strangers and laziness points above. If you

consider that the average product costs $500 to $1500 to create, graphics cost $50 to $300, and

copywriting costs $500 to $2500, most infoproducts cost $2,675 to create... not including web

hosting and advertising. That means every time you put out a report or an e-course, that product

must generate $2,675 before you make a single penny.

If your product is priced at 7 dollars, you need 382 sales, just to break even.

On the other hand, if you can write your own copy, even the most basic copy, the cost of

developing your product drops to the $550 to $1800 range, for an average cost of $1175.

Before you tell yourself that a professional copywriter can do a much better job at selling than

you, consider the fact that a random copywriter has never seen or even used your product. You,

on the other hand, probably know it inside and out. So if you can make your best effort at writing

your own copy using what you know, you can always get copywriting critiques, both free and paid,

to improve on what you have already written, than rely on a stranger to write all the copy for you.

Copywriting Tips - What-If Copywriting and How-To

Copywriting Methods For Storytelling

If you know anything about copywriting then you must know at least a tiny bit about storytelling.

Personally, I think that cookie-cutter sales letters with headlines, openers, benefit points, a

guarantee and call-to-action can sell just fine. But if you already have all the correct selling

elements in the right place, you can increase that sales letter's conversion rate by leaps and

bounds if you introduce a story to connect the elements together and get people to read all the

way through.

First, there is the What If story category. All you need to know to tell this kind of story is the word

"imagine." Let's say you are selling tickets to a coaching program. You say, imagine you found a

very pristine looking country club in a part of town you never knew existed. When you enter the

club, you find it filled with the coolest celebrities, all kinds of rare books you wanted to read but

never knew existed, this is the perfect hang-out place for you. But then a bouncer stops you and

expects you to pay money to be here. As you sigh and prepare to either leave or empty out your

wallet, the bouncer asks for one dollar. Only one dollar? You expected to pay 1000 dollars...

At that point you can explain to your readers how you have so many thousands of dollars worth of

value in your coaching program, but people can get started with a 1 dollar trial.

The other kind of story is "H"... the how-to story. All you need to do is tell your prospects how to

do something. This is also known as an advertorial where you teach something first, and lead into

a sale at the end, instead of selling constantly. The other day, my girlfriend applied to become a

transcriptionist online but failed the typing test because she typed too slow. We began to look for

information about DVORAK keyboards, which, unlike the usual QWERTY keyboards, is designed to

help you type quickly.

I stumbled across a long, very well written article that told me everything I needed to know about

DVORAK keyboards, it answered all my questions. At the end, it led to a DVORAK keyboard training

course complete with the info to get the hardware you need, downloadable videos and a DVD,

even a software program to get you started quickly. The correct way to sell using an advertorial is

to get prospects to read the entire sales letter, lead in to a compelling offer, and finally order at

the end.

Those are two different ways to tell stories in your sales letters: the what-if story, and the how-to

story. I am sure you can find many other kinds of stories but those are the two I usually go for

when I want to introduce storytelling in my copywriting.
