Is the wait taking too long? Are you sick of waiting and complaining? Are you fed
up with trying to grow rich and not succeeding? Are you
done with reading books and articles on how to become
rich, only to find out that the “big secret that all the rich
and wealthy use” is simply not available to you?
If you are done with:
• Not knowing how to
maximise your current
financial opportunities;
• Going to talk to
insurance agents and
“financial consultants”
with a fear of them
selling you an irrelevant
product;
• Worrying about the
status of your financial
health;
• And if you happen to
live in Singapore…
We might have the solution
for you.
If you are done wondering if
you’re doing the right thing to
get rich, and can’t keep up
with what you should be
doing with your CPF; if you
don’t know what insurance
you should be getting and
want to know a simple and
effective way to get your
finances on track…
It’s time to relax.
What if:
One single thing could
answer all your
questions?
One simple thing
holds the resources to
all your needs?
One smart thing could
actually tell you what
you can do to be rich
in Singapore?
How To Grow Rich In
Singapore
If you are over “Five
ways to get rich” and
“3 things you must
do”, here’s the
answer: “Grow Rich Singapore Style”
– a book that could be the one
thing to change your financial
future, and may hold the key
to you becoming rich.
We have a huge
opportunity to take
what we have and
grow it into riches in
Singapore, if only we
know how. From the CPF to investment
opportunities, to the increase
in qualified Financial
Consultants who are more
interested in you reaching
your short-, medium- and
long-term financial planning
goals than in making you a
number in their sales goal, we
actually have it good.
Unfortunately, it also means
that we are swamped by too
much information.
Sure, there’s the CPF website
to tell you about CPF, and
sure, there are a million sites
and a thousand people you
can talk to when you want to
talk about investment, but
there is always a need to
answer the first question:
“Where do you start?”
“Grow Rich
Singapore Style” Tells
You Where And How
To Start, And What To
Do When It Ends. If that sounds attractive to
you, there’s more.
“Grow Rich Singapore Style”
is more than just a book on
CPF and investments; it’s a
full-colour, 16-chapter, more
than 300 pages of content
book that is out to teach and
entertain.
Look at all the books and
articles you have collected
that are still sitting,
unfinished or unread, dusty
on the bookshelf.
“Grow Rich Singapore Style”
will not be like that.
As you read from the
beginning, the book leads
you from the foundations
– what is money (really),
why you need it, how
much do you need and
how do you plan with it.
Without having savings or
an excess of cash at the
end of every month, there
really is no use to think or
talk about investing.
As you get to the middle,
“Grow Rich Singapore
Style” begins to break
down the barriers to
money-making, and beats
the myths about making
money.
In the thick of things, into
the middle of the book, it’s
time to start working on
what financial
opportunities living in
Singapore brings.
First up, insurance, and
because it’s a book, you
can be rest assured that
there’s no sales talk here.
Without the stress of
having to buy something,
read about the different
types of insurance you
need, and why each is
important (or why you
may not need to get it).
Also, learn a way to
streamline your insurance.
If you have ever
wondered if you have
bought too much
insurance, there is a way
to streamline it.
When it comes to CPF, the
book breaks down all that
happens and all that needs
to happen depending on
your age and stage in life.
No more wondering what
you might need to do –
consult the book on the
right page, stage and
action, and get to it.
When it comes to
investing, it’s time to
introduce the many
options we have, and the
things you need to know
when investing in each of
these options. The book
even gives space to
spotting a scam.
No money to start
investing? That’s an

You don’t want to wait before
excuse. With the aim to
get you started on the very
first investment, “Grow
Rich Singapore Style”
points out unit trusts as a
place to begin growing
your money to become
rich.
Coming in to the end,
meet real people, just like
you. These are the people
who have managed,
according to their
measures, to grow rich in
Singapore, and all because
they simply knew what
they needed to be doing –
no extra intelligence or
work or luck required.
it’s too late; starting exactly
where you are is better than
never.
If you’re not convinced, read
the story of Henry and Jenny,
a couple who have gone
through numerous ups and
downs, but still found their
way to growing rich.
Their stories will resonate
with you, and shine more
light on how you could be
like them.
• Apart from clients, the
real people are also the
Financial Consultants, and
their lives are no different
from yours either. They
have made their follies,
corrected their mistakes,
and their life choices are
some that you may have
seen too. Their stores give
a human face to the
sometimes technical and
cold world of financial
planning, whether in
Singapore or beyond.
• Finally, as you reach the
end, the call to action gets
even clearer. Ever read a
book only to wonder,
when you are done, “Now
what do I do?” Here, no
questions to be asked.
Henry and Jenny Henry owns an automobile
services company while Jenny
is the Area Sales Manager of
an MNC. They first met their
Financial Consultant Alfred
Chia close to 10 years ago,
when he was one of the guest
speakers who spoke about
financial planning and
independence during their
previous network marketing
business. From then on, the
couple became friends with
Alfred, not knowing that his
friendship and financial
advice would change their
lives forever in the future.
The Turning Point Initially, both Henry and
Jenny thought that financial
planning was only reserved
for those with extra cash to
spare. Their perception
changed as Alfred introduced
an entirely unique way of
carrying out financial
planning. While they did
protect their lives with
insurance bought from
relatives and friends over the
years, Henry admitted that
these policies were just
bought in support of the
insurance agents they know.
They decided to engage
Alfred to analyse their
insurance portfolios, to see
whether they were
thoroughly protected for the
future.
Through Alfred’s analysis, the
couple found out that Henry
was not as thoroughly
covered medically as Jenny
was. Alfred suggested for him
to buy a medical insurance
using the CPF savings he had.
Trusting his Financial
Consultant, Henry agreed and
bought the policy for both
himself and his entire family.
Everything went as per
normal two years after buying
the insurance.
On the third year, in 2006,
Henry was unexpectedly
diagnosed with Stage 3
Colorectal Cancer.
Shocking as the news was, as
there were no symptoms of
the disease, the couple
remained positive.
Thankfully, the insurance
they had bought three years
ago helped to defray the
medical costs and allowed
Henry to get one of the best
surgeons to conduct his
surgery.
Jenny shared, “Imagine if
there was no insurance
bought. Our finances might be
badly affected as Henry is
self-employed, and not
knowing how much we could
chalk up on Henry’s
treatment would
have put us in a
challenging
situation! Until
today, we are
thankful to have
listened to Alfred’s
advice and acted
fast upon it!”
Stay Alive with the
Right Policies Ever since then, the couple
shares Henry’s near-death
experience with family,
friends and fellow colleagues
to illustrate the importance of
being protected. Henry
commented, “I always tell
others, never to leave their life
to chance, you will never
know when you will fall ill or
die. Always ensure that you
are protected for the sake of
your loved ones.”
With this in mind, Henry also
goes the extra mile to protect
his employees with additional
personal accident insurance as
a precaution for contingencies
in the future. Jenny added,
“Most of his staff is made up
of sole breadwinners from
Malaysia and we felt that it
would be thoughtful to help
them in our small way. We
also wish to safeguard our
interests as employers as
well.”
Different Views about
Money Even though the couple share
the same principles about
financial planning, they both
have entirely opposing views
to money.
Brought up in a relatively
simple family, Henry’s
parents ran a food stall. He
grew up helping his father
after school and during
holidays. With this
background, Henry is
prudent, whether he spends
on himself or his business,
even though he makes
enough to live comfortably.
“I started off my business
with just $5,000, so I learnt
how to be extremely careful,
how to make use of every
dollar to get the best benefit.
Now, when my company
needs new machines, I would
purchase them using
government grants or even
sublet the specific task to
others which have the
necessary facilities to save
costs.”
Today, Henry is a successful
SME owner. Unlike others
who only invest in asset
classes, Henry makes it a
point to put his financial
resources into his own
company – which is his
biggest investment. Of course,
he engages his Financial
Consultant, Alfred, to assist
him in planning and
coordinating this process.
Jenny on the other hand, feels
that any problem that can be
solved with money is not a
problem, so she is more
relaxed with spending her
earnings. Her late father, who
worked in an insurance
company, instilled the
mindset that money earned
should be enjoyed, as long as
it within your means.
Today a senior executive in
her organisation, Jenny works
hard for her money and
spends on what she wants
once in a while. Her
philosophy: “If you earn well,
don’t live like a pauper.”
On the other hand, Jenny also
admitted a weakness – she
cannot see too much money in
her bank account as it leads
her to impulsive spending.
Jenny creatively counters this
by having forced savings.
“Whenever I have a salary
increment, I will look for my
Financial Consultant
straightaway to buy a policy
to keep the excess cash ‘safe’.
This method is a great way to
have something to fall back on
when our business or when
the family needs extra money
in any unforeseen
circumstances.”
Securing a Great
Future Henry and Jenny’s “secret” to
success today is their
prudence in handling money
and their thorough financial
planning.
With it, they are able to enjoy
a comfortable life with their
family, knowing that their
future is mostly set with all
the preparations they have

financial planning.
done today. Besides
protecting themselves from
contingencies, Henry and
Jenny have also sought advice
from Alfred about investment
insurance, and through his
recommendation bought
profitable policies which got
them over 40% returns over
the years.
The sensible couple used the
profits from the policies to
pay off their existing HDB
loans, giving them peace of
mind. On top of protection
and investments, Alfred has
also assisted the couple with
their motor insurance, which
helped them tremendously
after a car accident in
Malaysia a few years ago.
With such a strong
relationship, Henry and Jenny
“give back” by bringing their
friends and clients as referrals
for Alfred, especially those
seeking car claims insurance
from Henry’s business end.
What is their message to
readers out there?
“If you never put in the
commitment, you will never
get started in financial
planning. Think about it, if
you are a smoker who smokes
one pack (which costs around
$10) a day, then you could
have saved more than $300 by
the end of the month. This
amount could actually get you
a good insurance plan instead.
It is all about knowing your
priorities and making the
right choices – before it’s too
late.”
