How to Get Rid of Pet Odors

Animals are a fantastic part of life. It doesn't matter if you have some furry little cat named Socks or you have a giant Marmaduke dog you rescued from the local shelter - animals can bring a certain something to your life like nothing else can. Unfortunately, they also bring up other issues; messes to be a little more specific. Some dogs are slobbery, some like to revenge poo on the carpet when you are at work and even more others have accidents because of separation anxiety and stomach aches. If you love animals and have one, two or a few you know that accidents with animals is a part of life, but it’s not something you have to love or even like. If you have some issues with pet stains and/or odors and you are trying to find a few ways to get rid of these problems - the smells and stains, not the animals, continue to read below for some tips and tricks and

a few suggestions on the perfect products.

Vinegar-Baking Soda Spray

The spray is by far the easiest, cheapest and quickest way to get rid of stains and pet odors. This works on vomit, pee, poo, even blood stains. White vinegar is going to be the type of vinegar you will want to use here and just regular old baking soda. You will need 2

cups of white vinegar, 2 cups of warm water, 4 T of baking soda and a spray bottle. First you will want to get up as much of the stain as you can, this means blotting up as much as you can with a paper towel. Once you get it all up. Add all of the ingredients into a bottle and shake it up, make sure that everything is mixed well and that the baking soda has had a chance to dissolve and stop fizzing so much.

Then, take the mixture and spray it on the area generously

Let sit for 5-15 minutes depending on how bad the smell and or stain is. Next blot that up and take an old

rag you can throw away and place some vinegar on it and blot the area, then shake some baking soda on it and create a sort of thick covering over it. Let that sit for

another 15 minutes. Once it dries, it will create a sort of crust over the area, then you can take a piece of cardboard or something with an edge and flake it away. The

stain and smell should be gone.

Peroxide and Baking Soda Mixture

Baking soda is a natural odor remover, its one of the reasons why when you place a box in your fridge it can get rid of all of those funky smells of leftovers, garlic, onions, etc. So it’s no surprise that this mixture and the one above both have baking soda in them. Again, this will remove both odors and stains. The things you need include; old rags that you can throw away, 1 cup of baking soda, 1/2C hydrogen peroxide, and a bowl. Note: Peroxide CAN discolor your carpets so if you want to use this recipe, try it on a spot that is concealable. If it discolors the area, well, don't use it! However, it should be fine. Carpet cleaning companies use 10% and that will discolor the carpets but since the stuff you buy in grocery stores is only 3% it’s not as strong.

Directions: First take the rags and try to get up as much of the mess as possible, this will probably take few tries, but try to really put down some pressure to get rid of something like pee. Next sprinkle quite a bit of baking soda on the area in question, and then take some peroxide and place it on top of that area. This will eventually turn into a sort of crust like above, let it sit for about 15 minutes. If the problems still exist, repeat the process, when you want to get the crust up, scrub away at it with a brush or rag and vacuum it up. Easy.

Citrus Enzyme Cleaner

Almost any pet carpet cleaner out there will have some sort of enzyme in it. This helps to really reduce the odor and get rid of the stains you might have as well. But, instead of going out and buying something, you can make your own enzyme cleaner at home and you can also be sure there are no chemicals in it! Essentially enzymes can break down

stains and odors on a more scientific molecular level. It’s a great household product to make and it’s easy. For this mix, you will need 7T of brown sugar, 1 1/2C lemon and orange peels, 1 liter of regular water and a container such as a mason jar to hold everything.

Directions: Place the brown sugar, and fruit into the jar, then add the water. Screw the cap on nice and tight, shake it up, loosen the cap partially and after 3 months you have a nice smelling natural cleaner that will get rid of stains and odors. So simple!

We love our animals, but what you don't love is some of the stuff they leave behind. If worse comes to worse and none of these wonderful tips helped you out, you can always hire a carpet cleaner or Maid in Montgomery County that specifically deals with animal related cleanups.
